Nealius Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 So 20* nose down is ok as long as you don't crash? Here I was going into a steep dive and completely leveling out at 500' AGL :p
Hotarubi Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 What will you do if two guys hit the same record with the same plane and noone bests them? I propose that it is taken the better one, in that case, is the one who spent less time to achieve the speed. You can see it on the demanded track, or people can turn on their counter in-game.

Nealius Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 For category 4: Flown ramp-to-ramp, 18* nose down, recovered at 550' AGL, 876 km/h TAS. (Cockpit instruments still in knots/feet even after setting "Imperial") Track File (too big for forums) I was able to go faster (511 KTAS ~946.37 km/h), but it was at 44* nose down so I don't think it qualifies.
Nealius Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Correct, 876km/h with 18* nose down. You say that if I am able to recover I qualify. Does that include if I were in a steep dive, or should it be in more or less horizontal flight?

Does that include if I were in a steep dive, or should it be in more or less horizontal flight? As long as players can load your saved replay and see that you 1: started from a runway, and 2: recovered after the record you tried to claim, you should be good. I think it's fair. 2. Nealius Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Ok, cool. I'll go back and see if I can break my record.
justoc Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 So, I was gaining altitude to set my record when my right engine died. I decided **** it, THIS IS FOR THE MOTHERLAND, and proceeded to set my record. 412km/h. Not bad for one engine. coming in for the landing http://i.imgur.com/TtpZC39.jpg Anyway, the track seems to be bugged, I land at the end, but it shows me gently(not really) landing in the grass next to the strip. Don't know if it was just me or what.speed record lost engine.trk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
AfkMan Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 So here's mine for cat. 1 At that point it started crying: "Maximum speed, maximum speed" but i know it's not max=))) Erforce Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Oh, finally rules don't need to be in a horizontal flight? easy stuff then. And that's not my personal record. Moreover, i didn't cheated this time, but without drastic rules, anyone can easily cheat in a track. (like being stealth immortal...) So, my 2 cents : 636km/h @ about 2600m ASL if you want to see realistics speeds, ask to be in a horizontal foward flight. you'll see more 350km/h sharks. ;) I would not accept any track without enforce immortal (false) options at least. It's all about rotor intersection. AfkMan Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 New one for cat 1., last track was not saved. The plane was in a very low-pitched dive for about -3 deg and i was able to recover. And i did it. Grigs Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 What about meteo settings? I do not see wind speed as a required configuration. It has to change something, doesn't it? :)
VincentLaw Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) What about meteo settings? I do not see wind speed as a required configuration. It has to change something, doesn't it? :)My record was set with default mission editor settings, and I would recommend everyone else does the same. Changing the wind speed would let you improve your ground speed but not your air speed. I think F5 view shows 3D ground speed though. Lowering the air pressure and raising air temperature would reduce density, which would reduce drag at low altitude, but higher air temperature will also reduce engine performance. The speed of sound is also roughly a function of temperature, so higher air temperature means wave drag effects are delayed until higher speeds. VanjaB Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I like this thread, but some ground rules need to be set. A 90 degrees vertical dive with full afterburners will probably produce the highest speed, before ejection and/or death ;)
