It's still just as bad as ever. It doesn't matter what my graphics settings are, I pull that trigger and I can drop my frames down to 10 if I hold it long enough and it drops below 20 very quickly. Is this issue ever going to be resolved?

 

I just can't see why the Huey is capable of blasting its dual miniguns with no issues while we're still dropping below 20fps firing our six .50 cals. I know I'm not the only one.

 

My specs: Core i5 760 @ 3.66 ghz, Powercolor Radeon 7950, 12 gigs ram, WD Caviar Black.

I really hope its WIP because currently thats the main reason my P-51 is sitting in the hangar gathering dust. Im having no such problems with the Huey.

Unfortunately, the P-51D hasn't been getting very much love these last few months; the last several patches haven't touched the P-51 at all. Perhaps when the FW 190D comes out, they'll revisit the P-51 gun issues, because it will be a more pressing matter then (what with more people presumably flying the WWII birds).

Is this framerate loss from the smoke at the gun ports, or the rounds impacting the ground (or something else)?

 

For me I have a negligible loss from the smoke coming out of the gun ports. However bullet impacts on the ground drop me to the mid-low 20s.

This issue has improved a little over time but is still a big FPS killer. I'm sure the real question is... What is different between the P-51 and A-10/Huey? Shell casings? Tracers? Tracking ballistics from the 6 guns might be more taxing on the CPU?

 

I think it's fair to say, no one fix could make the WWII contingent happier. Maybe EDGE will be the savior?

The shell casings only appear to be visible if you slow time down. I haven't noticed them at real-time.

 

Oh they are there.... I have plenty of screen shots of them. Try firing while you taxi. The ground will look like Hansel and Gretel had been there with six M2s.

I confirm that guns are still FPS killers. CBU-87's as well. Probably there is a file that needs editing. In P-51D ver 1.2.1, we never had this. This started 1.2.2 and above. I think because they changed the particle size for cannon rounds to reflect cannon balls instead of rounds.... Someday we'll see it fixed, but not these days..

I think they have to tone down the tracers effects a bit.

I tried something while flying last night... and had some curious results.

 

Why do frame rates drop (while firing) so much more drastically if there is a populated landmass in view as opposed to just water? I repeatedly saw a huge discrepancy between the two. I expect the fps to take a hit if buildings and such are in view but the FPS drop after firing is vastly different depending upon the background. Is this a known result?

I think its a known issue.. depending on the landmass in question, there are some very grossly unoptimized building/static unit LOD - search for a post by TEEZER (not sure that spelling is right) and he investigates it very well. The only way to truly troubleshoot FPS is way out in Siberia afaik.

I find the smoke from P51's guns is so excessive. I tried to fire them on ground when there is no wind whatsoever. The white smoke is so big. Are these guns firing black powder bullets? Feels like I was firing a battery of machine muskets.:lol:
