rasputin Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I tried dis-abling it today and my screen size remained the same (I run 1280X1024) and my framerate went up. I also got rid of an annoying vertical bar anomaly that was in the mountain-regions of the terrain. :icon_jook What does it do besides slow my machine down and give me graphic-related artifacts? ----------------------------- AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Asrock 939 Dual SATA 2 mobo 1024 Corsair PC3200 XFX 7800GT Antec True Blue 480 Samsung 940B Track IR4 Saitek X-45 HOTAS Win XP Pro
Guest Cali Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 hmmmm, maybe I'll try that out myself. EDIT: Just tried it out and no change here :( I lost 1-2 FPS.
Prophet_169th Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Actually, if you disable full-screen it is easier to alt-tab out, it is much quicker, and as noted there is a FPS increase. At least on my system. Also to note, i have full-screen off, but still have the vertical bars in the hills.
WhiskeyRomeo Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Like Prophet_169th I find it easier/faster to Alt-Tab between the game & background programs (TS/TrackIR/Shoot, etc) and have what I think is a small FPS increase on one of my systems (no, or not noticeable increase on an older system). I've always had more stable game play without the Full Screen option. rasputin; do you have an analog (VGA) or digital (DVI) connection to your Samsung 940B?
Guest Cali Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 When I tried it out it was with the A-10 quick fly, maybe I'll try it next time I play on-line.

EDIT: Just tried it out and no change here I lost 1-2 FPS. well same here, we both have ATi cards so....

Whiskey, I haven't gotten my DVI cable yet so I'm still using the VGA connection. You know that's entirely possible Mustang. I'll dive back in later and check the haze difference. Force_Feedback Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I'm gonna try the option later on, I currently have a Radeon 9800 Pro, capable of XT speeds, but it's not o'clocked cuz my current rig is way too crappy, CPU wise. Thank god I never ever had a hang over, dispite of my occasional drinking habits. I soo envey people that get buzzed after 4 beers, at least they don't have to spend a shitload of money :( Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
TomKatt Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 tried that non-full screen option. fps increases? :| when i clicked fly, it just crashed to desktop..
rasputin Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 Ok I just tested it again...I still have advanced haze! In the A-10 Oil Terminal mission I gain 15FPS at the start which diminishes a good deal once I get close to the action but it's still prolly a good 5FPS better over the town. In the MiG-29 quickie I gain about 7-8 FPS. Also the annoying vertical bars are gone gone gone! BTW I'm using the 82.12 Forceware drivers and my screen rez is 1280X1024. I'm happy! :icon_supe ----------------------------- AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Asrock 939 Dual SATA 2 mobo 1024 Corsair PC3200 XFX 7800GT Antec True Blue 480 Samsung 940B Track IR4 Saitek X-45 HOTAS Win XP Pro
Pilotasso Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I get another problem by not full screen: worse stutering when facing nose down to the ground. .
rasputin Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 Hi Rugg, nowhere in the MiG mission but it was really bad in the Oil Terminal mission where there are hills...basically I've seen it everytime the hills were on the horizon. ----------------------------- AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Asrock 939 Dual SATA 2 mobo 1024 Corsair PC3200 XFX 7800GT Antec True Blue 480 Samsung 940B Track IR4 Saitek X-45 HOTAS Win XP Pro
Prophet_169th Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Ruggbutt, when you try and alt-tab, do you see the bar that comes up with other programs running? Not sure why you would have a problem. I have the modified LOD I think same as yours. And I only see the banding at certain places on the hills.
51GRIZZLY Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Thanks for your tip m8 ... turned fo full screen .... no more stripes on the mountains :D

WhiskeyRomeo Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 ruggbutt; I agree with Prophet; seems odd to me too not being able to switch between programs when game NOT in full screen. Full Screen on or off makes no difference to my systems - Alt+Tab is always available. I have no problems on any of my 3 PCs at home or the couple I use in the office. With LockOn running and with Full Screen OFF Alt+Tab is faster (MUCH faster) to background programs/windows and Alt+Tabbing back into the game is equally fast & never a delay. My experiance is that Alt+Tab in the game with Full Screen ON to background programs/windows from the game is much slower. Also when I switch back to the game it takes 1-2 seconds and sometimes a screen re-draw before the game is ready. rasputin; I remember you talking about a DVI cable and was wondering if you were already using an all digital video output (DVI) or the digital/analog/digital video that VGA uses. It doesnt seem everyone is getting the same results which maybe do to equipment, driver or other running programs on different systems.
WhiskeyRomeo Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 ruggbutt; One thing you can test: Set LO graphics option to one size less than screen display & full screen off. (example: Monitor 1280x1024 - LO 1024x768) LO should run in a window and you can test Alt+Tabbing to other windows.
ALDEGA Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 It's not actually "in a window" (as in "with a title bar and borders"). If you set the game resolution to your native (maximal) resolution then you will see the same as with the full screen option. It just won't be "full screen mode".
Prophet_169th Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 It may be, that you just dont have another program to alt-tab to? If I only have lockon open, I cant alt tab. But with HL open, or the TS window open, then I can.
JackHorner Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Hey guys I just read the thread and im really interested in this, because I also get horrible virtical lines on mountains. How does one change the setting to non full screen mode? I have a radeon x800xt. thx
Caretaker Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I still get the banding artifacts in windowed mode. They lines actually seem less pronounced but I assume this is more of a placebo effect. Caretaker ED Beta Test Team
