Due to the summer holidays and Gamescon, not much new news to pass along this week. The team is mostly focused on getting the 1.2.6 open beta ready (it is basically in alpha testing now internally). For those that wish to participate in the open beta, we hope these open betas will benefit checking bug fixes in 1.2.6 like more stable network play in particular. The team has also been busy supporting BST with the upcoming beta release DCS: Mi-8MTV2, working on the new flight dynamics for the Su-27S and F-15C, and continued work on engine code.

I do understand that everything is subject to change - just would have hoped for someone to actually say if the ATC improvements had slipped as a priority. Whats the point of weekly updates if news some want never gets mentioned again after being announced?

 

Not a moan really - just everyone has different parts of the sim the want updated be that more modules - graphic engines or whatever and expecting to be kept updated with announced improvements that get pulled seems reasonable me.

This can be changed also - so it uses different settings for each version if you wish.

 

The command is something like

 

start bin\x86_64\launcher.exe -w "DCS Test"

 

This will use "C:\Users\*N*\Saved Games\DCS Test" for settings.

I get you, everybody has their pet feature, I'm the same. That said, I know nothing of the timing of what is actually planned, ATC or otherwise. So don't take my word as gospel, it may still be on track. We still know nothing of how v1.2.6 beta is to operate, how stuff gets added, or not, to it etc etc.

 

It is too early to know about ATC and 1.2.6beta yet.

did you even down load the DCS World from steam?

 

you have to do that first. It will not work with the ED version not compatible.

Ahh ok it is slightly different for the steam version.

Create a BAT file in "C:\Steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld"

 

and enter into the BAT the below line

 

start bin\launcher.exe -w "DCS Test"

 

If you run that BAT, DCS will use the settings in "C:\Users\<User Name>\Saved Games\DCS Test"

Well, my steam version says 1.2.6.17037, so, there is a beta on steam or something else is happening. I opted in beta btw, it's not by accident.

had an update upto v.1.2.6.17037 or was it your default first time install version from steam ?

Yes, I wouldnt advise installing any betas at this point, if this was unintentional they will be pulled and could have adverse effects on our current installs, not to mention you will lose all MP compatibility with servers still running the release version. Let us find out what is going on first.

All that is being said, that if this was unintentional that trying it could cause issues for you if you choose to go forward and install it. We are only trying to help. My gut says this is unintentional otherwise we would have seen a way to get the open beta for non steam users as well, not to mention they are pretty good at announcing this stuff... But there are those on here - myself included - who are happy to take the risk because we are always looking for something new in our sims...

 

I remember very well doing the Russian dance in order to get BS1 when it was first released in Russia before here.

 

I applaud you for warning of the risks but that is all you should say in my view until certain - just my view.

 

I also agree however that Friday would have been a good time to announce but given the lack of comment on some items you just never know for sure.

 

Let people play with the beta I say - providing they know the risks can only be good surely??

Obviously we cant stop you from doing anything you want, this is only a friendly warning that it may lead to issues. As a word of advise... stick to the open beta option, the other one can be a lot more unstable... And I hope to see official word soon.

I'll give it a miss as not installed using steam yet slightly offtopic but if I buy a module using steam can I use the key to unlock it in the non-steam version of DCS World?

Now complaining the beta broke our installs would be wrong, of course. Complaining about pulled downloads would be justified I would say. Not unreasonable to think that a download link making something available was actually available! - not sure how you manage pulling it if it was a mistake though...other than just pulling it.

 

Dont effect me personally either way. Dont use steam and never have. I always buy direct from DCS website.

 

All the above said - if it was made available to me then yes I would download - and quickly!...
