Some of you may have noticed the 169th Dedicated has been running an AWACS Attack/Defend Mission for the last few weeks with, heaven forbid Externals on. As far as popularity goes it seems to do quite well.

Anyway I thought I might run a Poll and see what sort of a result we get.

Hi. It will be interesting to see what comments come out of this.

I had to vote for "Either way".

With the AWACS, presents a different challenge to the pilot as your enemy does know where you are. Its up to you adjust your tactics accordingly. The "Lone Shark" pilot would have a harder time, while the team players would just have to adjust their tactics a bit.

In my opinion, with AWACS's is harder than without.

Without AWACS allows taking out multiple bandits from above or below without them having any idea where that missile came from. Yes, that is fun and looks great on the scoreboard, but probably doesnt require as much skill.

Sneaky tactics work better without the AWAC.

So to me, its either way, I can enjoy both, & find teamwork will give you the advantage with or without the AWAC in the mission.

My 2c.

Cheers

Yeh I voted for both ways...

In any modern theater, second and first rate airforces you are going to have AWACS. It's been a good change up.

Same here, i dont care either way is fine with me. There are pros & cons with both ways

If newer players want to use F2 or F6 and think it helps then its up to them. Best of luck to you.

We have found however the benifits outweigh the problems. With F5 view and padlock disabled F2 really doesnt give you a whole lot of extra info when there are AWACS. Especially in the heat of the battle.

The benifits are however:

We can enjoy watching our friends take out targets.

We can police loadouts.

We can tell when mission objectives have been completed

Well to be honest ( we have to be, don´t we? ;) ) If you have been flying the Kerch Strait, Maykop, Gaudata triangle as much as i have you really don´t have a hard time to find out where your enemies are by F2 veiw. Its allmost like Awacs to me.

I cant give any of the answers above. I dont think they are within the type of answer I would give. I think AWACS are realistic to use, but unfortunatly There is no full implementation in the F-15 wich kinda hampers its Situational awareness compared to the russian birds.

We can police loadouts

This by far is a great thing. Though I havent noticed anyone using a LOPE'd loadout in a very long time. There was once recently I saw someone with a "pod" thing on an F-15. It look like a missle almost, but had no fins or anything. I kept asking him what it was, but he never answered. May have to look through the encyclopedia.

I voted for both also. With the new AWACs in 1.11 only having LOS, its awsome, and actually has proved much harder as some have noted.

There is a thrill to not having AWACs, but I am actually enjoying it more with them. There are still people who have managed to fly under the AWACs coverage, and gotten pretty close to the Blue base. More flats before the Red base, so its harder, you just have to approach from the right direction.

I voted AWACS is cool. The reason for such a vote is a fact that Su-27 was designed from ground up to operate with AWACS or GCI.

AWACS is not implemented correctly - so giving AWACS even to both sides actually doesn't work well at all, since one side gets a datalink, the other doesn't even get a picture call, depending on the aircraft used.

Lock On is a simulation of real life. Fighter pilots use AWACs in real life. Thus, the question "is AWACs for noobs?" is already unrealistic in and of itself.

That being said, the Russian fighters do seem to have a d/link where the F-15 does not.

Actually it's a very realistic question for something that isn't real life, especially given the level of implementation ;)

Although I'm sure it can be worded more accurately.

This issue is why we are currently building a test mission for the 504 server where we will have Russia vs. Ukraine/Georgia. There will be the same exact plane set on both sides. There will be EWR on both sides, and all the air defenses will match. This is the most balanced that you can get Lomac in it's current state and we want to test the reaction in HL. I'm sure we will get some complaints from the A-10 and F-15 guys since they will be getting left out, but I have high hopes that most will like it.

a good way around this is to have 27's operating alongside the 15's, and giving datalink info to them via Teamspeak :)

I agree that it is a workaround Mustang, but I don't agree that it'sa 'good' one ... acceptable maybe, but it's still a work-around ... I don't know if you get my drift but anyway, not important ... I'm just voicing my opinion since it was solicited, if I end up on a server with AWACS I'll just live with it ;)

How about: active radar missiles are for noobs.

Anyway I’ve got the impression that F-15 pilots perform like noobs facing AWACS support.

Thus for balance reasons without AWACS is OK for me.
