I'm completely confused - and as a pledge to DCS WW2 I hope this process is clearer after you experts respond:

1. I've never played any DCS World - I owned disks of Lomac and Flaming Cliffs (1) ?

2. I was just going to get the P51D as part of WW2 announcement and saw the 70% off via steam

I purchased this p51D from Steam. However a few days prior I downloaded and installed DCS World directly.

So now what ????

Do I

Uninstall DCS World and get it from Steam instead ? I don't mind, but why is there two ways - is there some reason I shouldn't do this ? And if I don't - how do I ever get the p51D into my DCS World ???

I see a greyed out DCS in my steam list, and I see 'view downloadable content' and my p51 is in there.

Now what ?

You can do one of two things:

1) Install DCS World through Steam and delete the standalone install, or

2) Get the key from Steam and add it to your standalone install.

The second option is much more involved. There's no material difference between Steam DCS World and standalone DCS World. Both are being maintained because standalone DCS World came first, and most of us are still using that method. Steam will get updates at the same time as standalone, though, so if you're new to DCS World, there's no reason to worry about standalone (except for beta releases of some modules).

It shouldn't have any bearing whatsoever on DCS WWII, so you don't have to worry about your choice now affecting that later.

Thank you sir for your help

Considering I don't know how to get a key from Steam, I will go forward with using Steam ( I have most other games on steam so no worries on that)

Just one note for ED regarding DCSW on Steam.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I consider the names of the DCS modules on Steam little bit confusing (for newcomers let's say).

Example:

UH-1H has 'DCS:' prefix in the name and DLC mark depicted on the picture same way as A-10C, but A-10C has also additional suffix '- DLC' in the name.

P-51D, BS2, CA do have 'DCS:' prefix but do not have the DLC mark neither the '- DLC' suffix.

The other chapter are the A-10A and Su-25 which do not have 'DCS:' prefix, neither '- DLC' suffix. Only the DLC mark depicted on the picture is present.

DCS: UH-1H Huey *

DCS: A-10C Warthog - DLC *

DCS: P-51D Mustang **

DCS: Black Shark 2 **

DCS: Combined Arms **

A-10A: DCS Flaming Cliffs *

Su-25: DCS Flaming Cliffs *

* w/DLC mark

** wo/DLC mark

And these are all DLCs for DCSW, isn't that true?

My suggestion:

DCS: UH-1H Huey - DLC *

DCS: A-10C Warthog - DLC *

DCS: P-51D Mustang - DLC *

DCS: Black Shark 2 - DLC *

DCS: Combined Arms - DLC *

DCS: A-10A Flaming Cliffs - DLC *

DCS: Su-25 Flaming Cliffs - DLC *

* w/DLC mark

..or maybe I am just a pedant :music_whistling:

Hi,

Instead of creating a new topic I think it's easier to use that one since my question is related :

A couple minutes ago I bought UH-1H and P51 modules on Steam and I assumed I would be able to retrieve the keys and apply them on my existing non-Steam DCS World installation, but there isn't any keys with my DCS World item on Steam (see here).

On top of that, I cannot install World via Steam : I get an error "missing app configuration".

Did this happen to anyone ? Maybe the keys will appear after some time (I actually made the purchase ten minutes ago) ?

Edit : NVM, I rebooted Steam and the keys are there.

Steam ran out of keys, as soon as they received a fresh batch of new keys they sent them out to Steam members that bought A-10C, and didnt receive a License Key.

This not a purely ED-steam problem, i have the same issue for another game I bought from steam right now.^^

Yeah, I noted that in the 70% off thread,

Steam constantly runs out of keys for titles, especially on titles they mark down to $5-10 for a day.

Sorry another dumb question:

I own DCS World Modules through the ED Store: P-51D, A10C, Blackshark2.

I just purchased the Huey, the Su-25, and Combined Arms through Steam. I understand that I can migrate those Steam keys to my existing DCS install (when the keys are showing).

But I cannot--and will not be able to--move my ED prchased games into Steam DCS world. Is that correct? I don't mind, I'm just curious. I'd like everything on Steam.

Thanks!

P-51D, A-10C, and Black Shark 2 FULL (not the Upgrade), can be Migrated to Steam Via the Games, Activate on Steam Menu.

You can go either direction with those titles. The only possible exception would be if your blackshark 2 is the upgrade or the full version. If it is the upgrade from bs1, it won't work in steam. If it is the full bs2 version, it will work in steam.

You can either move your p-51d, a10c, and bs2 to your steam dcs world install... Or, you can move the su-25 and combined arms keys to your non-steam dcs world install.

Either get the keys from your ED purchased products HERE (payments section of your profile at digitalcombatsimulator.com)... Then go to Steam. Go to the "Games" menu, then "activate a product on steam" and enter your ED purchased keys there.

Or, in steam, right click a title and choose "View CD Key", and activate those keys in your non-steam DCS world install.

Thanks very much. I did read quite a few things on the subject before I posted, but did not find this specific solution. Sorry if it was already answered!

The reason being is that the DCS: tag is for a fully clickable DCS fidelity level aircraft.

The FC3 planes are not, hence no DCS tag.

I see, but.. ;)

I know that Su-25 and A-10A are different level then A-10C, BS2, ... but they are still DCS DLCs, aren't they?

So in my modest opinion these should go something like this

DCS: A-10A (Flaming Cliffs version) - DLC

DCS: Su-25 (Flaming Cliffs version) - DLC

I know, silly problems :pilotfly:

DCS World is the name of the Main Engine/Software Environment.

DCS: Prefix for modules denotes that they are High Fidelity Study Sims. and they Started the DCS Series before the Unified Environment..

No Prefix/Flaming Cliffs denotes that they are LockON/Flaming Cliffs Levels.
