  1. Yes, you will. Eventually, 1.5x, and 2.x will be merged into a single version. Currently, the only way to play on the new Nevada map is on the 2.x open beta. Just know that you can buy modules from steam and use them either on steam, or non-steam installs. But, if you ever buy any modules from the dcs shop, you can *not* activate those to be used on steam (anymore. you used to be able to, but they've since dropped that support). You might consider just installing the game straight from dcs, rather than via steam. I'm a big steam user, but this is one game that I decided to bypass steam on. Without steam, you get earlier access to some things, and you can take advantage of module sales from steam *and* the dcs shop. With steam, you can only buy/play what is on steam. (edit: The good news for you though... you can start with steam, and if you ever change your mind, you can move to the non-steam version without issue...)
  2. I thought I remembered reading that VEAO got a deal to do a contracted one, which was why they had to abandon the dcs version for now. I've been wanting this for a lonnnngggg time. I realize some of the factors that go into deciding what modules DCS (and 3rd party devs) decide to do, but it still seems as though they pick some strange aircraft to do sometimes. There are some aircraft and helicopters that would be much better sellers than most of the current crop of modules, I suspect.
  3. Thanks very much for the info. And, especially for the tip about Flat Shadows on the Nevada map. I had been enjoying excellent performance since coming back, and on a 6700k, and I was having flashbacks after loading up NTTR for the first time :) Now running mostly 60 fps on Nevada with everything maxed (except aa off, civ traffic on low) and flat shadows on. (admittedly haven't gotten into any action yet). For an "alpha" as long as things continue to improve, it looks like NTTR is going to be my new playground in the Huey for a while :) It seems DCS has made some genuine strides in a few areas. I'm pleased with that.
  4. I am just getting back into DCS after a long hiatus. I have 1.5 installed (looking good by the way). I just bought the NTTR map. I was curious if there is anything I need to know before installing 2.0 alpha as a separate install from 1.5? Do any of the settings/control profiles/etc conflict or work across both versions? Are dual installs of modules required for each version of dcs, or will my already installed modules work automatically in 2.0? (If not, will it require a re-download, or just a simple copy/paste?) Thanks for your time.
  5. I've just purchased Huey today. I will say, I already find it easier to trim the Huey than the Blackshark :) I am having a problem, though. Not using the best stick for the huey, but I have an x52 pro that I am using. The issue arises when mapping my trim. I map trim to button "c" on the cyclic. I attempted to map trim reset to button "c" + pinkie mod. However, when I do this, the aircraft will no longer trim. If I map trim reset to a completely different button on my hotas, then I can trim the huey as normal. There seems to be a bug that breaks the trim with the x52 pro, if you map trim reset to the same button you mapped trim to (plus modifier of course). Has anyone else encountered this? EDIT: on a side note... after putting in a couple of hours getting the feel for it, this thing is a ton of fun to fly. Great first impression. Can't wait for that Cobra Belsimtek is allegedly cooking up :)
  6. That is great to hear. Hope it does indeed make it into release. Will make heli flying that much more rewarding (for me)
  7. Has there ever been any word on the state of trees in EDGE 2.0?
  8. Hello. It has been a while since I've played, and I just re-installed the game fresh. I have a-10c and ka-50 profiles for my x52 pro dated september 2013 (the ones in saved games/DCS/...). I was wanting to import them, but I've noticed ED have changed the way they handle profiles and now use a .diff lua. I haven't been able to successfully bring in my old profiles. If I load them under "Options" --> "Controls", it seems to just load whatever the default is, rather than my profiles. I remember it took me quite some time to get them mapped, and I also have an external profile with my saitek software that I used in conjunction to those saved game profiles. Is there a way to successfully import older in-game joystick lua profiles into the current version?
  9. Download speeds are indeed much better. Downloading the base dcs world files now. Thanks for the feedback.
  10. excellent. Good to know. Thanks very much.
  11. Hello, all. I was just curious how download speeds were for dcs world standalone install as opposed to steam these days? I haven't played in quite some time. I last installed dcs world on steam, along with my two previously purchased modules (a-10c and ka-50). But, I haven't played since installing on steam. The updater from ED just had such slow download speeds in the past. But, with inconsistencies between the steam and ed versions, I figured I might switch back to the standalone ED launcher. Hence the question. Thanks in advance.
  12. Hello. I decided to make the move over to steam today. I've had a-10c and bs2 for a long time now, purchased direct from ED. I was able to activate the keys for those modules on steam with no problem, and they show in my dcs world install in steam under the cd keys. However, the modules do not show in the game. Now, I've read that modules purchased from ED and activated on steam may have to wait for a monthly key dump, but my impression was that this was only for newly/recently purchased modules. Since I've owned each of these modules for at least a couple of years now, that isn't the case here, correct? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: My bad. A restart of Steam resolved the issue.
  13. It is a pretty impressive looking engine. I wish they had an SDK available for non-commercial use, and indy friendly licensing. That is the main thing they are lacking in my opinion. FYI, I emailed them some time back, and they said they are working towards indy friendly licensing sometime next year. The more requests they get for offering an sdk and/or royalty based, or other indy friendly options, the more inclined they will be to do it. So, email them and request a free sdk, and indy friendly licensing if you think it would be good for the gaming community at large to have another option like this out there, and more readily available for use/experimentation. It can only be good for their marketing to have creative folks posting youtube videos utilizing their engine, imo.
  14. No it won't... they've axed that feature some time ago, and also effectively stated that their engine can't handle it as the fps hit would be on the order of 10 or more fps worse. For an engine that already craps out fps in a wide range of situations, it doesn't sound too likely in the near future, if ever... unless they *finally* get around to addressing the obsolete foundation upon which the game is built.
  15. You can go either direction with those titles. The only possible exception would be if your blackshark 2 is the upgrade or the full version. If it is the upgrade from bs1, it won't work in steam. If it is the full bs2 version, it will work in steam. You can either move your p-51d, a10c, and bs2 to your steam dcs world install... Or, you can move the su-25 and combined arms keys to your non-steam dcs world install. Either get the keys from your ED purchased products HERE (payments section of your profile at digitalcombatsimulator.com)... Then go to Steam. Go to the "Games" menu, then "activate a product on steam" and enter your ED purchased keys there. Or, in steam, right click a title and choose "View CD Key", and activate those keys in your non-steam DCS world install.
  16. combined arms is. So far, everything that is currently out (except for the new mi-8 from belsimtek. But, their Huey is now on steam, so I expect this one to come with time) is available on steam with the exception of the following: FC3 (but, they have released two, and appear to be working on more, standalone aircraft from fc3 @ $15 each that can be bought without fc3, and are on steam). FC3 will never come to steam as I understand it (except in Russia). The way to get those aircraft will be as they are released as individual modules for World. BS2 upgrade version (the standalone bs2 will work on steam, but if it is the upgrade from bs1, it will not)
  17. In steam, go to the "Game" menu, and choose activate a product on Steam. Enter your key from your profile from digitalcombatsimulator.com With regards to BS2 upgrade, as I understand it. BS2 standalone *will* work with steam, but the BS2 upgrade will *not* work on steam. As far as I know, BS2 upgrade version, and FC3 standalone will not work on steam. All other modules will, as well as FC3 aircraft that have been released as stand-alone modules.
  18. There is a good plugin for vbulletin that can trim down the number of spammers getting through quite significantly. It is a simple plugin as well. It just requires a minimum amount of time during registration. (for example, 15 seconds is a pretty good minimum setting, as real people won't register that quickly) Basically, if anyone registers in less time than the minimum set time, their registration is automatically denied. The bot type of spammers tend to register in under 2 seconds, so you can thin out upwards of 80% of the spammers making it through the registration process.
  19. I find the stretch goals pretty attractive, personally. I think they would be better served to introduce some of those stretch goals along the way, rather than all at once, but, besides that... a 40 dollar pledge is getting you 80 dollars worth of aircraft (if you don't already own p-51 and fw190) without any stretch goals. The further incentive, in my opinion, is that your 40 dollar investment can = up to 13 aircraft. If they don't meet those stretch goals, those aircraft will still come, but no one will be getting them for their original 40 dollar investment. we will all have to pay for them post-release as they are released.
  20. it is typically beneficial to campaigns not to "blow your load", so to speak, on stretch goals all at once. So, tweaking them based on user feedback, and/or introducing new stretch goals, and new pledge levels and things can help keep momentum going throughout the duration of your campaign.
  21. You can look at the graphs for any number of successfully funded kickstarter campaigns, and find a similar trend over the first few days. That it is like a failed campaign is not really indicative of anything, b/c it also resembles a lot of successful campaigns. EDIT: Not to belabor the point, but here are a few randomly chosen graphs from successfully funded campaigns:
  22. Thanks, and no worries. I understand. If it can take advantage of more of my 50mb connection, I'd be happy :) I'll buy through the site here either way... whether I am playing on steam or not. If the bandwidth situation does improve quite a bit, then I wouldn't have much of a need to switch over to steam for playing at that point (other than most of my games being there)
  23. Ok, so if I am understanding you correctly, basically if it is available on ED's product page, then should be ok?
  24. Thanks for your effort. If it is possible for someone to pass this query up the chain. Specifically, if we would be able to not only use future, non-steam, 3rd party modules in steam, but if any updates to them would be included in the steam update packages. i.e. someone makes and releases a bad ass u.s. attack heli that I have to have, but they elect to go the non-steam, and DRM route. If I buy and activate through ED would I be able to a) play it within a steam DCS world enviro (sounds like that is a yes) and b) would it get updated from within steam, or would I have to maintain a separate install to get those updates for said module (which would defeat the purpose of gong to steam). Sounds like FC3 might be a good testing ground for this, so, if that does work for you, I'd say it is a yes. Would be nice to have an official word on this though, as it is the only thing holding me back from migrating my DCS content over to steam.
  25. ah. ok... start --> Eagle Dynamics --> Update DCS World (or, if that doesn't work, "Repair DCS World") Thank you.
