[CLOSED]Game Crashes since 1.2.6 - 64 Bit OS

Hello ED-Team,

I am playing and fell in love into DCS since Version 1.2.5., bought a new system for that purpose.

1.2.5. was very stable, but since the upgrade to 1.2.6. the game had crashed during flight in nearly every singleplayer-campagin game (currently playing FC SU25A and BS2), as well as in multiplayer Games. The crashes appeared random, but at least after one hour. The game was stable in very small maps, like the first four maps in the BS2 Deployment campaign. The game crashed to Desktop with the message "DCS.exe ist not working anymore"

My system Specs:

OS: Win7 64 Bit SP1

CPU:Core i5-4430 4x3Ghz

8GB RAM

GPU: AMD 7770 Ghz Edition

SSD HD

The Game is running with Admin rights!

I tried following things:

-Repair DCS for several Times

-Complete clean Reinstall of Version 1.2.6

-I moved the dcs folder in the users directory and restarted the game.

-I reinstalled the C++ Enviroment

Afterwards I lost my nerves and downgraded to version 1.2.5, where I plan to stay until the next patch.

On the Bottom is the last crash log, I hope this can be some help and again thank you for your work, your project is brilliant, my friends and I plan to hang on with you for a long time :)

Greetings from Austria!

The other "usual" suspect in the 64 bit environment that recently came to my attention is the "swap file."

If memory serves, setting it at 0 was one way of improving performance in the early days- this gradually results in RAM usage increasing until such a time that it finally just crashes.

It's worth a look.

"ENO"

Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret.

One thing I noticed causing crashes is popups. I had a program (adobe) and another program (system mechanic) announce a update available in the background and the game crashed. When I closed the program the popup was on the screen. happened on different occurrences.

One thing that seems to help is if I hit ctrl alt del to bring up task manager before starting the program. Don't know why but I don't get very few crashes when doing that first.

Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard 2600k CPU, 16 gig DDR3, 1600. Samsung 830, 256 gig hard drive,

This is a good point, you need to make sure you dont have a bunch of junk running in the background, you might be surprised to know what is going on in the background because of all these little things different programs like to install... can make your RAM seem very small very fast :)

Last time I crashed 1.2.6 was when I left 3D Studio open... that's not gonna work :)

Firstaful thanks for the advice guys!

I am currently updating to 1.2.6 again to give it a try, so please don't close the topic yet.

@ ENO/swap: Good Point, but it is at automatic, currently are 8 GB allocated of 12GB max.

@junk in the background: this is a dedicated sim-pc, not my working machine, so there is very less junk in the background; clean install, no office suite, just an adobe reader (for the manuals :P). so there are no popups; anyhow, I will try to run task manager in the background to have a look next time.

Btw my wingman has a very similar machine, only with windows 8 64 bit and experiences the same problems since the update.

Posted

Yes we have same case.

This has nothing to do with your computer.

Again SWAP file is OK, RAM is OK and your PC is perfectly OK.

1.2.6 is to blame, I also went back to 1.2.5 not a single crash.

Went back on 1.2.6 it crashes 3x per 1 hour play.

I made decision not to play it anymore until this is resolved.

Sad but true.

Posted

Yes, I have the same problem since 1.2.6. Never had a crash before, ever, then after the upgrade to 1.2.6 it crashes almost every time I fly it. I have tried a few things to hopefully fix it to no avail. Hopefully the next patch will fix this.

Well guys, I am sorry you are having issues, my machine is nothing to write home about and I dont have these crashes at all, so the key is we have to see if we can find a common occurrence.

Have you tried removing your DCS folder from Saved Games and letting the sim recreate it?

Have you checked that yuo have no program runnning in the background that could effect it, even one you might not think could cause an issue may do it.

Have you run a repair

Have you checked to see if you desktop resolution and sim resolution are the same

Have you tracked your memory usage to see if it is using more than it should, at the same time making sure your available memory is there compared to what you have installed?

Run Microsoft Viual C++ 2010 runtime install? Making sure you dont have a number of older version that may cause conflicts

Run the latest DX9c Runtime Installer

Check all your hardware drivers to make sure they are up to date?

Are you running as admin?

Have you tried a repair?

Have you tried a fresh install?

I am sure there are more options to try if you need them.

I did a fresh Win8 x64 reinstall.

Installed latest:

1. Chipset drivers

2. Devices drivers

3. Nvidia drivers

4. DirectX 9-X

5. C++ 2010 redist x64 and x86

And then latest 1.2.6 version.

Firts game in MP crashed again.

Machine had no AV software installed.

So, what is next?

Should I got to shop and buy a new PC to rule out HW issues??!

Even though I keep telling everyone that I GET NO CRASH WITH 1.2.5 VERSION..

Even though I keep telling everyone that I GET NO CRASH WITH 1.2.5 VERSION..

This tells me (I work in IT) that software is the culprit here and that something was borked either win Win8 updates or with 1.2.6

Please do not ask to repair, reinstall, delete some mambo jumbo folders etc...

Please DO get me a logging version of DCS.EXE that can produce something more that access violation.

I will if noone else will.

Just give me 10 minutes for game to crash.

I need yours as you are in Win 8, maybe there is an issue with Win 8 and 1.2.6, If I cant find another tester running Win 8 with no issues I will submit your crash files to ED.

The goal here is to find a way to reproduce the crash, as I cant on Win7 I need to find other ways, I understand you are frustrated, but you need to help me help you.

Isn't this something ED should be doing? crash logs on the servers (almost all of which are having similar problems since 1.2.6) and generic runtime errors on the clients are not really pointing to one specific cause, this problem really needs to be de-bugged properly by ED development and QA. Agreed that accurate information when reporting issues is essential but given the amount of customer feedback, I think ED should be proactive in trying to reproduce the issues and fix them.

It is being done, but at the same time you can never have too much data, and I will tell you that a number of problems can be solved with troubleshooting, we have to exhaust those first... ED cant replicate every possible PC configuration out there... so we need to help, specially if we are effected by issues.

Did all of that, except a fresh direct x install, because my system is only a month old. But giving ENOs thought a changed a bit in the swap configuration, I turned of the automatic allocation for every drive and allocated specificly to my c: drive. Shouldn't change much, but I ran DCS 1.2.6 at all crash-missions (A10C instant action, SU25A Cold Warrior Campaign, Ka50 MP Missions which crashed before), I even tortured the Machine by adding around 500 units to the maps. So far no crash the for 3 hours.

Tomorrow I fly the night multiplayer with my wingman (Windows 8), this will be the real test. At worst outcome I bring you some juicy fresh crash reports, from my Win7 and his Win8 System.

Good Night Gentleman.

The problem with Auto is it sets it to like 1500 something MB to start,

if the Swap File Expands Rapidly (say when it's loading all the Data for a mission), if it expands and hits the limit, DCS Will Crash with a Access_Violation (Cx00000005), Before Windows can "Automatically" Expand it, Because it the Process Cannot Access the Swap File to write temp data to it if it's Full.
