I'm so confused.

I don't know the difference between old and new methods ?

I used the JSGME but any time I disable any mod, it gets deleted completely (not sure that it's supposed to do that but that's what happens).

I'd rather do a Manual Install of any/all mods (unless they come with an Installer !!). BUT I don't know how to do that. I'm not sure which folder/sub-folder I am supposed to install these files, nor do I understand the putting of "zip files into a zip folder". If they are already zipped, why are they being put in a zipped folder ?

What am I missing here ?

OR If I/We are required to put the files into a sub-folder (which we create ... somewhere) is that sub-folder named EG: "blablabla" OR "blablabla.zip" ?

And if the latter is the case, why not just drop the zip folder directly into the parent folder (whichever that is) ?

As I stated .... I am so confused.

repair/update DCS will only restore those modified files while ignore newly added by customers.

old method: put those dds files into original zip: so it's modification, repair will restore original zip

new method: create a folder with same name as the zip file at the same location, and put all dds into that folder. All dds files in this folder will overlap the ones in the zip, so it works. And during repair, since this folder is new one (original dcs does not have it), repair will not touch it. So you can save the operations of uninstall/install via JSGME

Hope I make myself clear enough

By the way, actually this is not a "new" method. DCS World has already had this capability, but I've just learned from a friend or a member of ED Team. :)

Yep, compared to the prev installation instruction in 1.5a, this is relatively 'new' one ;)

I checked those files, also all files. No difference, no any new change.

Could you go in details what's different?

Note: Honestly, I must say that I didn't check whole cockpit according to new manual. So, there may be something to correct.

I don't know about anyone else, but for me, a Screen Shot of a directory/folder/sub-folder (whichever) that shows the MANUAL INSTALLATION would be Very Helpful.

I'm not exactly sure Where the files get put nor do I understand the Folder with same name as Zip file. For example: Does the Folder Name end with ".zip" ?

If anyone is willing to upload a screen shot, I'd be very grateful.

In fact, I believe good screen shots of all installation methods would eliminate allot of future questions.

Just a Thought !!

Thanks

I mean the difference between your eng and ru cocpkit,

e.g. label positions: cockpit_mi-8mtv3_central_inscr.dds

at the bottom, original does not have --- LH ----, --- RH ---

There are many bugs:

e.g KOPTH... does not mean 'control' here, it means 'check/test'

Hmm. I get your point, but those can't be counted as "bug", in my honest opinion, maybe "differences" or ... "interpretation"? :)

I don't remember exactly the source. While translating them, I remember I have read one or two real flight manual books of Mi-17 models, but, unless we understand exactly what those switches do by reading a complete completed flight manual, there's no need to argue on slightly different labels. This was my other honest opinion. :)

You're right Tiger. I had a plan to make a video for telling how to install a mod, but couldn't find spare time to do it, but maybe I can prepare a HTML webpage for it. Work in progress from now on. :)

I have done the localization of CHN by following a CHN Mi8/17 tool book/reference written by a senior colonel and her major is Russian (prof and authoritative).

In that manual, for most parts, KOPTH means 'check'. ;)

Im not sure why RU textures miss some labels for some breaker switches.

Hi I have installed this wonderful mod, however I'm missing the textures for the windows. All glass has some generic ED background.

Funnily if I open a window I can see out.

All the English labels are there, just no view.

I copied the 17 files over.

I even tried re-downloading incase of corruption but it's still there.

Thanks for reading.

Just create a folder next to the .zip and copy and paste the files in there

Yeah I have done that and everything is working as it should, all labels are in English but the window glass (textures) isn't there.

I have the full cockpit but no outside view.

Or am I missing something in your post?

OK I realise the mistake I have made so I will put it here just in case anyone else is as stoopid as me.

What happened was I saw the .zip file and thought it was the file I had downloaded and it automagically placed itself there. But it wasn't...the .zip file I have now discovered is the Russian language version and I had renamed it to stop any confusion. As a consequence the game couldn't access the files it needed.

So my renaming was my fault. :surrender:

Thanks for the help.

Great Work!!! ;)

L'importante non è stabilire se uno ha paura o meno, è saper convivere con la propria paura e non farsi condizionare dalla stessa. Ecco, il coraggio è questo, altrimenti non è più coraggio ma incoscienza.

I absolutely agree.

I can't thank you enough for this mod. It greatly reduced the time it took me to learn how to startup the helicopter which now lets me focus on learning how to pilot the damn thing.
