DCS World War II continues to move forward following the release of the P-51D, Fw 190 and Bf 109. These modules have set a gold standard for simulated World War II combat aviation. We are now though in the final stages of preparing for the release of our next DCS World War II module… DCS: Spitfire Mk IX! In the tradition of our previous three warbirds, the Spitfire will embody a professional level flight model, accurate cockpit systems, highly detailed external model and cockpit, authentic sounds, detailed damage model, animations, and effects. Our engineers have created an amazing flight model based British archives of authentic wind tunnel tests.

I do hope that's a typo.

Looking good, nice to hear that you will be focusing on theatre too! I know that it will be a while until everything is in place, but that is just the way it is with a niche product like DCS.

That cockpit looks amazing, even though I really don't like the Spit. I won't be surprised to there suddenly being a huge influx of Allies pilots on the servers once it's out- nobody will be able to resist that beauty.

Pretty sure it is a typo that got through the e-mail... in the official news section it's showing as a Mk IX.

Fixed that for you.

Regret to say the DCS News still says IV. We know what they mean though :)

So are we looking at a pre-Christmas release of the Spitfire maybe?

I hope so would bring in some $$$$$$s for ED. Very popular aeroplane.

Not the greatest Spitfire fan but that cockpit looks outstanding. May have to use my last Kickstarter key on this one. Really wanted to save it for the P-47 but I'm not sure I can hold out.

Yeah, the artwork quality in that pit is jaw dropping. It's a minute-one purchase when it goes up for pre-order.

Ooooo those pics are sexy :)

But why is the propeller not turning in the first

The cockpit is amazing, but do I have to tie a round doggy-chew-toy to my extended HOTAS stick to be able to fly the Spit? :joystick:

Luv the beveled instrument lettering in pic 3 drool.gif

Why does it say "DANG!" next to the undercarriage control quadrant? Is that in case I put the gear up while on the ground embarrassed-smiley17.gif

Anyway, I know what I'm getting for Christmas this year :D

Not that interested in pure fighters, but this is an iconic aircraft and thus a must buy regardless. Looking spiffy indeed!

Well, she's got the bomb release button on the throttle, so not a pure fighter.. . probably ;)

I'm in agreement with others on here. I don't usually go for pre-orders, but I'll be voting with my wallet on this WW2 sweetheart (and supporting the wonderfully free DCS while I am at it).

That is so the pilot knows what to say when he makes a gear up landing.

Answers to most important questions ATC can ask that every pilot should memorize:

1. No, I do not have a pen. 2. Indicating 250

Mixed feelings on this one. On one hand, as a competitive simmer, I always resented for Spitfire in other games for being "the noob plane" and the "uberplane," the one bird I couldn't balance in my dogfight mission planesets by picking the right models/blocks. It was always too dominant, no matter what, and I always kind of disliked it for that.

On the other hand, when I see an actual Spitfire, in real life, I immediately forget my simmer's resentment and become excited. Even if it isn't one of my favorite WWII fighters, it's still a classic WWII fighter, and that makes it--by default--wonderful and amazing.

I expect it'll be more accurately modelled here, and so won't be the aluminum incarnation of Superman that it was in older, lower-fidelity sim/games. The real thing was a very good dogfighter, yes, but I suspect that previous developers went a little overboard. I look forward to seeing how the DCS one does.
