Build me a new system:

Old one: i7 950 @ 3.07 Ghz, GTX480, 12 GB RAM etc...

New one: i7 4770K @ 3.5 Ghz (stock for the moment), GTX 780 OC, 16 GB RAM

Performance gain in DCS World goes from 120% to 0% (yup, zip....) at some locations.

But what amazed me the most is that on a new fresh install my old system could not run IL-2 COD decently. FPS were high enough in general but there was this irregular stutter spoiling all the fun. Triad about everything, never satisfying. On my new build, fresh install, it runs superb smooth, not a single hickup.

I wonder, if only this new setup can make such a game run decently without much problems, how on earth do developers test their game and decide that it's good to release, knowing that my system was simply not available during development. How do they make it even work without it turning into a freaking slideshow?

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Il2 COD is a horribly optimized POS game. Sorry. It had to be said. DCS is also very poorly optimized but you can tweak the performance to some extent.

That is not what i'm talking about. I just want to know how they test their programs with a lot lesser capable hardware, optimised or not.

There is testing, and there is proper testing. Apparently, most dev groups find the latter unnecessarily time consuming and costly.

Bro definately overclock that 4770k, have mine at 4.6 ghz on corsair h-100i at 1.275 voltage. Rock solid in this game.

The current DCS engine is very old and is at it's limit.

EDGE should be fine on your new rig.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

I have my Core I3 530 overclocked to 4.3 with 8GB of corsair vengeance running @ 1550Mhz on a GTX 650 with 2GB of GDDR5 and DCS World runs like the wind as does FSX. I agree, overclock that 4770K! Intel cripples it processors you need to overclock to get real performance.

Yeah, have an H100i to use it for OC'ing but never really overclocked a CPU so i need to read a bit more about it. Also, the AsRock motherboard i have seems to have some twists when it comes down to overclocking. Only read that after i got it.

dont use the UEFI BIOS Auto overclocks... they are just presets, and usually dont work with every chip.

Great advice, I would search for how to overclock your cpu on your mother board as a start. Most important, baby steps go up in small increments and test each overclock for stability. I use OCCT for torture testing and Core Temp to monitor temps.

I tweaked the view distance and modified the smokestack buildings to help with the overall smoothness of play, oh yeah, I also upgraded to the 780, that one did it for me. I believe even a mild overclock should improve your performance.
