Ok I was just in the shower, and had an idea. Normally I would think nothing of it, but I heard great ideas always comes in the shower or bathtub..

Also, this might be an old idea or even a mod already exist for it afaik..

What if ED made a simple planning tool. It could be the same map as the editor use, only with different functionality..

- multiplayer log in with passwords..

- hierarcally delegated tools like pointer, measuring tape, striped paint (for ie DMZs)

- ability for pilots to view the map trough the "eyes" of the squadron commander

With this we could have a simple, powerful tool to conduct battle plans, have squadron briefings, or just plan your flight with your wingman or copilot..

I'm sure you guys could word this much better, and come up with much better ways to configure it, but you get the general idea :)

Superb idea Udat!!!! This is one thing that myself and my flying buddies have been talking about for a while now. It would be great for MP clients to be able to discuss and draw up flightplans together as a flight. Good shout!

I was thinking about doing something like that myself some time ago. It would definatelly a large project and would take some time. Especially with my C# skills. But it is definatelly doable.

Very good Idea. With a "Briefing" expansion, can be improve the immersion.

- Can add Video and Audio to them

- Plot command aid, graphics and remarks into the map (and maintaing them on mission in-game map).

I would prefer a web-based solution so its accessible from your phone or tablet. In my squad we use scriblink which are very good for this purpose.

There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.

Udat, you're right about the shower thing. Problem with me is that half the time I forget what the great idea was 5 minutes after exiting the shower. Perhaps I need to keep a grease pencil so I can write my ideas on tile. :)

I really like your idea about a collaborative brief. There are 3rd party programs out there that do this, but incorporating it into DCS (with the real time waypoint display/placement) would be great.

Someone else posted that the technology should be web based. I'm not sure how I feel about this, as ED adding this would be dependent on supporting multiple interfaces (IE, Firefox, Chrome) that change over time. This adds a lot of unknowns outside of ED's direct control, whereas in-game could be controlled directly through the GUI. That said, export to tablets would be a welcome feature.

A external approach could look something like this:
