Hi all

My parrot chewed my TrackIR to death, both the track clip and the trackir itself.

I haven't been playing DCS recently, and was quite unhappy when I found out. So currently I am undecided on whether to replace it straight away with a new set, or wait until the Oculus Rift units are available for purchase.

My big question is, will there be official / dedicated support the the OR by ED?Or will it have to be modded in? Further, does anyone have dev edition and would be willing to share their experiences?

Also open to any feedback from other users on the topic of TrackIR and Oculus Rift.

And if I've missed any other details, let me know!

Thanks!

Totally up to you - but I would get a new TackIR.

I'm not sure if there will be official OR support; I'm not sure when there will be official support; I don't know how bugged the OR support will be; I don't know how much the OR would cost for the kind of resolution we'd want.

I also wouldn't want to wait until the OR is out; I'd want to be flying tomorrow (and would get the overnight shipping on the TrackIR).

You could be waiting a while before the OR is released as a retail unit, I guess it depends on how much flying you do between now and say middle of next year? If that was my parrot he'd be pining for the fjords

Buy a new TIR.

Wags is very positive about the rift, since getting one, but it could still be quite a while before both full support and a viable retail unit are avalable.

Thanks guys, I've been on the fence about TrackIR but I think I will order this weekend. Only question I have is should I also get the the proclip? Can order with TrackIR5 right now for $20.00 more, BTW cost is not a concern.

IMHO, do NOT get the ProClip.

It seems like a good idea, but a baseball hat with the metal tracking clip on the brim works every bit as well, and the ProClip will break if you sneeze on it (only a mild exaggeration).

Search the forum for the thread about the pro-clip and you will see dozens of variations on "good idea, crap quality, it broke".

Seriously - unless I have a LOT of bright natural light in the room, the hat clip works just as well.

I have had four pro clips.

The first one broke after a week, the second one was broken when I got it, the third one broke after a month, the fourth one I still have, it's broken and in a drawer.

I agree that the Proclip is fragile. I own three, one currently broken.

However, I do not agree that the hat clip is just as good. With the hat clip you will find that stray ambient light will be harder to 'tune' out by adjusting sensitivity. In a perfect environment, the hat clip does work quite well, but in a less ideal environment (in terms of lighting) the Proclip will serve you better.

IMHO.

I'll concede that it does take a little more care.

I make sure the blinds are drawn, and I occasionally have to move the mirrored closet doors around to avoid "bright spots", but I like keeping my office area pretty dimly lit anyways.

You can adjust the light sensitivity in the T-IR software menu...

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Man how do you break a pro clip? I've bashed mine and it's been treated harshly by many random folk trying out my hornet pit and it still goes strong.

Track IR Pro Clip is awesome.

It broke twice: once when I set my headphones on the table - this broke the headphone mount clip, which I repaired with a zip tie - and once when I admittedly knocked my headphones off the table onto the carpet. That one split the "fork".

Maybe you got one of the early models before they started skimping on build quality?

I fixed mine.

How I did it? I researched it using Google.

I wrote a post here to one of the DCS forums and also to the TrackIR forums. You can find my DCS post in my username listings of threads I started or just look up "TrackIR fix" or whatever I titled it.

To replace the ProClip LED sensor thingy is about $35 new. I spent less than $10 to fix it.
