Dudester22 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Every server I go on I see people popping smoke, but I'm not sure how to do it. Can somone tell me if it's a download or a key I press. Thanks!!
Vedexent Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 If you mean smoke pods on your wingtips - you need to take the smoke generator pods in your weapon load-out. Then - at least in the Su-25 - "T" toggles the smoke generators on and off. If you mean dropping smoke markers on the target zone to mark a location for other attack aircraft, then it's a particular type of munition a "smoke rocket".

Thanks!! What kind of smoke? There are smoke grenades (can be used only by means of scripting in the mission editor) and rockets (practise smoke and WP) for about every aircraft that can be used to mark positions on the ground. Also CMS flares have quite some smoke trail ... but that is not what you meant, right?

However, when I join the acrobat server it doesn't allow for weapons on that server so how do I get them? I see other players using smoke on it, but if I cannot weapons then I am not sure how to get smoke pods?
Lanzfeld Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Not to hijack the thread but I have a smoke related question. I set an AI flight as AFAC and I give it smoke rockets and set its flight path over a column of enemy yet it never launches smoke rockets at the tanks to mark them. Is there a way to do this?

Maybe there are several variants of them, with and without smoke pods? Otherwise I am as clueless as you are here ... (never flew on such a server :o)

This is more a JTAC/AFAC question than a smoke question. :o) The JTAC/AFAC is responsible of what task he gives you, what ordnance he requests and how he designates targets. He is toe to toe with the enemy ... so he will know what is best ... :o) But, as mission designer, you can force a JTAC/AFAC to use only specifc types of target markings: Laser, IR-Pointer or WP. But this works only if you choose "FAC Assign Group", not with the generic "FAC" task under advanced waypoint actions.

Shahdoh Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 If you are referring to the Virtual Aerobatic server, yes, you can still load smoke pods, as well as fuel tanks and other non-weapons. On a US keyboard, press <Left Alt> ' to bring up the armament screen, under the picture of the aircraft are squares for what is loaded on that station. Right click on that square and select Pods, then choose a color. Most aircraft can only put smoke on the outer most stations, so if you select a station and dont see the smoke pods, try another station. Once you have them selected, press <OK> and wait for the ground crew to load them up. Again, most aircraft need to be completely shut down for the ground crew to work on the aircraft. Hope this helps

Hope this helps Best answer yet, but I am on a United kingdom keyboard so pressing left alt has done nothing. Also, at what point do you press whatever key it is for a Untied kingdom keyboard? have never been so stuck over something so daft, but hope that someone can finally give me the answer I need. Thanks!!
Shahdoh Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Can try <Left Alt> @, I think that's the Euro keyboard key for it.
EchoMasterMind Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 For a UK keyboard, I believe it would be these keys: For a Swedish keyboard, it's Left CTRL + Ä [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
joey45 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I personally have changed the key to 'Z' for all my airframes for ease of use. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. GC1993 Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Refer to people's comments above for how to load smoke pods in DCSW/Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft. No one has explained A10C smoke loading though so if you're wondering about that instead then here's how.... Select them onto your loadout before you start up your engines & avionics (if you load them after, you'll have to reload your DSMS). Then when you're in the air, turn master arm on, switch the master mode to "air to air", and press the pickle button and the smoke canisters will start releasing their smoke. Press the pickle button again to cease smoke.

However, I have not come across air to air mode yet. I have switched the master mode to Gun, Nav, CCIP, CCRP, but where is the button for air to air mode? Will air mode become available with the same button as the Gun, Nav etc? Once I have the smoke on the wing tips? Thanks!!
cichlidfan Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) Use the same Master Mode switch but use a long press to get A-A mode in the A-10C.
