Boltz Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 From what I read though it seems that the sort of laser I would be looking at (a 40 watt chinese one off ebay) can't cut metal and various other places said the same thing and something about the reflections would cause problems. I guess it could then be used to laser off the copper on PCBs which would be a great addition. Maybe I'll have to look at getting one after all. :music_whistling: A-10C Cockpit Build Thread My YouTube Channel
Intrepid1 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 the reflections would cause problems. At my work, we cover the stainless steel to be laser cut with a non reflective plastic film to cut down on the reflectivity. It is how we cut reflective material and the laser just burns through both materials. Randy

Chineese 40W is not cutting metal, and even the bigger lasers have problem with copper . but making PCB is still possible - paint your blank, use laser to burn through paint per your drawing and then etch as usual :) better then toner transfer for sure Anton. Jarnob Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Progess Been a while of testing, flying and saving money - but i've made some progress! :) - Added new LED lighting which lights left and right consoles and UFC - Changed lay out of front dash by setting flaps, gear and NMSP on a different (for me better) position - Added some buttons/switches from which i can control the 3 cooling fans (left/right console and front dash) and my pc system - Made my 3rd screen operational in the right console: It currently holds the Caution Panel, TACAN/ILS freq, Oxygen gauges, Airfield maps and a small corner on which i can test some switches which are not yet integrated into the hardware switches. I'm thinking about installing a tracking ball (mouse) next to it instead of using a touch screen; since i also use it as a board for maps and stuff. (screen has been reinforced by plexiglass) Right now i'm busy with making a mount made of aluminium and wood for the 3 mainscreens. Other ideas: - Adding (flat) buttons on front dash (QNH, COURSE and stuff) - Placing make shift HUD frame of aluminium
MacFevre Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Looking great! Your cooling fans? Does your consoles get warm? I was actually thinking about adding vents above the knees like in the real plane. For cooling me though, not my gear. I am really surprised at the end of a mission, wait scratch that. I'm really surprised any time I fly how hot and sweaty I am by the time I touch down. (If I touch down!) It might not be real, but sometimes it feels like it! Jarnob Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Yep true - i could use some fans myself too! ;) But these are for my modules. I notice them getty pretty hot after flying about 1,5 hrs. Not sure if this has anything to do with the continuous closed contacts on the inputs. I'v got one IO module which broke down.... and i had to buy another for 30,-..... and readjust a LOT of settings again..... So just to be sure i've placed fans around the modules! :)
Jarnob Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Jeeeey DeadMan's decals arrived last weekend! I placed them on my cockpit sides and my pit looks a LOT cooler now! :) Also received the decals for my seat. Right now i'm thinking about making my seat more like the real thing - so i can use all the seat decals the right way.... hmmmm.... thinking about rebuilding pit parts.... here we go again :) Tx again for the decals DM! Deadman Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 That looks sweet thanks for posting. I can't wait for the garage to get a bove zero to work on this https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
JABO2009 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Wow, this SIM pit is one of the nicest I've ever seen ! amazing work. That sim pit even has an outside skin in nato grey ! amazing job 10/10 Intel I7 - 10700 K @ 3,80GHz / 64 GB DDR3 / RTX 3090 / Win 10 Home 64 bit / Logitech X56 HOTAS / HP Reverb G2 Running DCS on latest OB version
Jarnob Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) tx guys ;) Deadman - are you living in the US area where temperatures are so low right now?? i'm constantly seeing that on the news over here in europe Edited February 3, 2014 by Jarnob
Jarnob Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Yeah i really like my pit - flying is so realistic with DCS Currently building covers for the gauges - still need to make some more. Got two other monitors ready but i'm still working on a standard which allows me to switch to larger monitors if needed. And i got some lag problems when i tested 5 monitors on my Eyefinity card... + i got to wait on some funds :) (can't use all my money on the pit)
Jarnob Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 update of my cockpit; im making a new standard for my 3 monitors. currently adjusting height and sides also i'm flying around in some adjusted Georgian A10C's: :)
Mr_Burns Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I tried to make a multi monitor mount from instruction on tinter, it was based on steel water pipes, the 3 monitors were way to heavy for it so after 2 days I finally got it stood up it flopped over! Ive just taken down a fence so have some steel poles like scaffold to try something later on. Your looks pretty robust though
Jarnob Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Some vids of my home-cockpit functioning; front dash only. Still pretty intense :)
gandolfer Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Very very nice Pit, It would be possible, to show how you have placed the monitor in central dash ,front and back thx, (sorry for my poor English)
MacFevre Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Looking fantastic! What happened to the three monitor? Decided on one big one? Gotta tell ya, at the end of that first video, I felt like saying, "Negative on the flyby Maverick, the pattern is full." I've never seen so many A-130s since I was stationed at Keesler AFB!
