AMD Catalyst 13.30 beta (14.1?) available

Recommended Posts

12.30 isnt the 14.1 Beta, it was the last build of the year they were using for CES.

14.1 Beta will bring:

Mantle

XFire 4K/Eyefinity Frame Pacing on non-xDMA GPUs

Updated CCC

Dual Graphics Support (Will Allow APU's IGP to Run Along side of Discrete GPU)

As for moving to mantle.... that' would be a shot in the foot:

-Already Spent the time and money Developing DX11

-Many users already bailed on AMD for nVidia over the AMD Performance Gap (Specifically related to DCS)

Moving to mantle wouldnt be cost effective unless AMD Integrated nVidia Support (which is coming soon actually).

The problem AMD is facing now is Resellers jacking up the prices of their GPUs due to "Whatever"Coin Mining.

Cards are now $100-$150 over MSRP at resellers (newegg, tiger, etc), on Ebay they are $200+ over MSRP.,

if they fix frame pacing on Xfire/Eyefinity, I'll prolly spring for another 7950 instead of a R9-290X.

After a few days of running these 13.30s on my 7850 2gb i have noticed better FPS in most of my games, i don't have any fancy charts to show it but i can definitely feel some difference.

other games, but have you noticed a slight uptick for DCS? I have a 7870, and haven't installed this one as of yet. was curious. thx

496 Mb???? Has Hydravision and Gaming Evolved included it appears.

GPU-Z was unable to read the card, Sapphire 7870 OC, after install. Showed clocks at 12750 for core and 933 for memory, also sensor page was missing most information.

HWiNFO64 still showed all correct values it appears.

Once again saw same ~20% drop in FPS, from 26 to 21, in the same test scenario that I've seen with every release since 13.9

Well, they didn't show as being for the 7870 but everything is worth a shot.

I HIGHLY recommend using DDU before updating to the newer driver, simple and safe to use

Thanks, have to give it a try. Always use Driver Sweeper and never had issues with it.

Not necessarily a shot in a foot nor time wasted to develop dx11 version as this works parallel to dx. Nvidia works better with DCS thats a fact. Adding mantle would rather be a nice gesture towards those guys that chose ATI cards, therefore making whole DCS even performance-wise for both ATI and Nvidia users. TBH is really think that games that force customers to use either Nvidia or Ati is unfair, and Mantle would solve that. Also adding mantle is apparently 2 months work for 1 guy... And I bet 10 euros that mantle will be supported on both Nvidia and ATI.

Sorry for OT

I highly recommend just extracting the necessary dll(s) from the driver package and put them in the DCS World\bin folder rather than installing the whole thing, as it makes it a darn sight easier to revert if it causes problems.

It's explained in the link below but assuming DCS World is dx9 only, which I think it is, all you need to put in \bin is atiumd64.dll or if it's dx10, aticfx64.dll + atidxx64.dll. Then to revert to using the installed driver, just delete or rename these and that's it. It makes it so easy to try different drivers and when you're sure it works better than the old one, then you can install the whole package if you want.

Interesting, i have thought about doing this before but wasn't sure how, so just dropping .dlls into the bin folder - is there good success rate doing this?

I'll give them a shot this weekend.

Skatezilla, Mustang, what's the verdict with running this driver and DCS? pickup an FPS or 2? a drop?

was curious....

It's hard to imagine how it could fail. If DCS World sees the dlls in it's /bin folder, it will use those and if not, just use the currently installed ones as normal.

I currently have 13.10 installed but I'm using the 13.12 64-bit dx9 dll for DCS World and the 13.12 32-bit dx9 dll for ArmA3.

It's quite surprising what a small part of the driver package the actual dx9 driver is and made me think "how can it be so hard to properly program such a small thing?" but I'm sure it must be quite complicated really :smilewink:

Thanks for the heads up!

Just tried this out, appears to work really well.

Cleaned out driver with Display Driver Uninstaller and did fresh install of 13.12.

Tested FPS, still lower than 13.9

Put the 13.9 atiumd64.dll in /bin, tested and FPS was back up where it was under 13.9

Can't say I have. I still get the flickering white dots with HDR enabled unless I use PeterP's HDR fix for that and I still get low fps quite a lot, so I'll probably go back to 13.9 like txmtb.

The nice thing about this method is that if all my other games run better with 13.12, I can install that so that they can use it and just use specific older versions for things that I need to, like DCS World or ArmA. :D

I tried this, and noticed the 13.12 atiumdag.dll reduced the FPS. When I pulled them out of the \bin, I was back to my "normal" FPS rates. hmmmm...

I'll probably stick with the current drivers. They seem to work best for all the performance tweaks I've tried so far.

Nonetheless, thank you for this method! It's a quick and easy way to check things out.

guess I'm in the ATI/AMD holding pattern for EDGE... :(

Are you running a 32-bit version of DCS or was that just a typo? For the 64-bit DCS you need to put atiumd64.dll in \bin, not atiumdag.dll, so I'd be surprised if it made any difference putting the latter in there.

Anyway, you're not the only person to note that the 13.12 drivers don't work as well with DCS as some earlier drivers. I've always understood that once a graphic card is of a certain age, newer drivers don't tend to contain anything that benefits them, being focused only on the more recent cards, so with my 6950 I don't bother updating much these days, unless I hear about something particularly special in the latest driver.

actually, I put both in there. atiumd64.dll and the atiumdag.dll. My bad for not mentioning both.

I'm thinking the same thing you are. Mine's a 7870... so probably nothing in the mix for our cards. Unless for one reason or another, AMD decides to sweep through and tweak the DX9 stack.... :music_whistling:

thanks again for you testing method. it saved me a lot of headache from uninstalling, then installing the new mix, being disappointed, and then going back... rep inbound
