  1. Hi Boneski :) I'm afraid, that for the modders :" offering their work for a fee does break the End User License…" Just have a look there at the thread : According to EULA it is Illegal to place Mods for LOMAC on Websites? Using a "donate" button is tolerated by ED, selling a product is something different... In all the cases, all the guys I heard of, that put a "donate" function on their website, even for mods that were really successfull, never made enough money to buy more than a couple of drinks for them and their friends in a pub... :) The "donate" option is a nice way to thank people that did something you really appreciate, but is often disappointing as it is an impossible battle against human selfishness... :) And personnaly, modding for me is about a community sharing a hobby, helping each other and trying to help to build a better game... Not about making money... :D I'm spending my life in a really material world and job all day long, I like the idea of doing something different of my free time... :) Cheers Hub.

  2. As a matter of fact, it is quite difficult for the Raptor to "show" at an airshow what it is best at: being stealthy! You can imagine the commentary "The aircraft that you did NOT see supercruising at angels 30 to your left has by now long gone to an other airshow"

  7. Hi, Anyone here who is self-employed will know that there is vast difference in producing something for a hobby or for the love of it, and producing something for commercial gain. The standards have to be far better, and what about support for that product - is it compatible with all versions of LO? Will there be email support for problems installing? It would soon become a headache, and may deter anyone from trying again. The ground pounder texture mod is first class work, as far as we have seen.. and the winter textures just looks fantastic. Can't wait to fly the Ka50 over that on a misty morning. Why stop with the Ground pounder texture mod, .. Ironhand would be able to retire! with what is due to him. I pop my head in to the forums now and again, and I am encouraged by the friendly, congenial atmosphere. Make some of it commercial and I fear that may be lost. Don't spoil it. DancinBear

  8. Being as I'm taking an advanced physics course at uni. right now, I might be able to lend an answer. If we were to release the missile from the rail, into the moving air around the aircraft, without its engine igniting, what would eventually happen (think of bomb releases). The missile would slow down because its no longer being carried (since its not connected to the aircraft which is producing thrust to sustain its airspeed) and its not producing any force to overcome the forces of drag induced by the air coming towards it. This deceleration will continue until it reaches its terminal velocity, or hits the ground (terminal velocity will occur when the missile will also be falling straight down). The reasoning that says that the missile will attain its designed velocity (mach 4) plus its launch velocity (mach 3.3) does not take into account the drag that already has to be overcome at the time of launch by the missile. When the missile is launched, it will accelerate only if the thrust of its engine can overcome the drag induced by the speed of the oncoming air. I know it sounds crazy, but it applies to anything that is being removed from the aircraft or launched from it. So, take a bullet from an on-board cannon, for example. If the aircraft is traveling with an oncoming wind speed greater than the maximum velocity of the fired bullets, the bullet will slow down once they enter the airstream. Now, its true that the bullets will be able to leave the barrel of the gun, since there is some boundary layer flow around the surfaces of an aircraft, in which the air is moving slower. Once any projectile/object enters the full force of the surrounding airflow, and it doesn't have any provisional force (thrust) acting on it to over come the force of the airflow, it will decelerate. Now, I should mention that there is an interesting fact about aircraft that fly at high altitude and "high mach speed" that will probably negate this observation about bullets/missiles slowing down. When people say that an aircraft like the SR-71 or the Mig-25 or the XB-70 is flying at mach 2.5-mach 3.3 at high altitude, you have to be a bit cautious about what that speed really means. These speeds are the speed relative to the ground, not the speed relative to the airflow around the aircraft. And since we know that at high altitude, the air is much, much thinner, the airflow around these aircraft at high altitude and "high mach relative to ground" is not as fast as the ground speed. This is why in some sims, when you try to fly at say, 60k feet, and your airspeed indicator is measuring in ground speed, you could be flying at something like "400mph" and be stalling.

  9. Would I buy a ground texture mod ? 'Is there's sufficient new content to warrant paying the price asked' would be the first test I'd put on it. Bearing in mind how much the whole of FC cost - what's a change to an airfield's textures worth ? Or a change to the shaders ? Or these things together ? If I buy such a mod & it makes LO/FC(/BS eventually) unstable, do I get my money back ? Other questions : Do people selling mods have a responsibility to make them backwards compatible with other people's mods (for example someone's airfield mod undoes someone else's widely used shader mod). If they build on existing work, do the original modders get royalties ? If they cause problems with the sim, does the community have comeback (liability limited to the extent allowed under law), or just no hope of ever getting disputes resolved? Recognising that the burden of modding falls to a relatively few, I think as a community relations & negotiations over mods that may have 'unexpected results' or simply don't appear to do what they were intended to do (how many fps mods are there? & how many end up uninstalled because they either have no effect or just make the world too damn ugly) are all much simpler if the mods are seen as an act of generosity to the community that the user tries at their own peril. That said - if someone has a mod that is significant enough to make it worth spending money on, has been fully tested, will be supported & can be sold through a secure method (if it's done in a business like manner) then, depending on how it looks & what I read about it - maybe I'd buy it. PS: I do agree though that it's a shame that there is no way to recognise the effort of modders - the Ground Texture Mod & the A-10 Mod etc etc... Maybe they need another rank & rep sysem - have 'Awarded Grand Hero of the Lockon Modding Community' & a little medal by their names :-)

  10. If there is no easy start option with realism turned up, & are keystokes available, maybe some clever cookie will programme a 1 touch macro of the whole startup procedure so lazy beggars can sit in the cockpit & watch the switches toggle etc.

  15. ok nvm about the part where I said "it will be a while until the next pack." I decided to waste some time instead of doing hw and work on the 4:3 loadout screen for you guys. Due to high demands, i decded to create another set of loading screen but in 4:3 ratio. Report back to me for those people with different res and tell me if you see any black lines, cut offs, stretched...etc. Since I'm running on a laptop, i can't test it since i don't have an external monitor here so you guys would have to tell me, that's why this is beta one and not uploaded to lockonfiles just yet. Here's a picture preview: And Download Link: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=122&lid=778&ttitle=4:3_ratio_Loading_Screens_1600x1200#dldetails Feel free to mirror this since its going to expire within a week. Again, this is not a Modman pack. 1.) Simply Unzip the file 2.) pick and drag the loading screens you want and drop it into C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\FUI\Common folder BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL FILES FIRST!!! Sorry for the picture quality, kinda hard to find hi-res shots of russian birds, but its better than the original ones IMHO.If you have better pictures, i am open to your taste, you could always drop me a PM or post a link on the forum. This should be compatible for both 1.02 and 1.12a (just don't copy over the Su-25T if you are on 1.02). I can't recall if 1.02 was in the same folder/format. Based on what alfa said, it looks like in 1.02 it there was only one Mig-29 loading screen, so pick the one you like the best and rename it into start-mig29.dds.
