A big hello to the Lomac community, I've not been flying for a while as I've been spending what little time I have on rFactor and Live for Speed, which has led me to a pretty cool discovery. Someone recently found that a Directx modification for Grand theft Auto made by a rather clever chap named Boris Vorontsov also works in rFactor, GTR2 and Richard burns. I noticed there was a directx8 version of the mod so I tried it in Live for Speed and it worked, then it struck me that Lockon was also DX8 so I tried it and it only bloody worked in Lomac too didn't it. :megalol: Now I've not been messing too deeply with the Bloom settings in LO and the screens you see are just quick snapshots using the same config that I use for rFactor so the effect is extremely oversaturated in some areas but the good thing is that the mod is heavily tweakable so people can work with it and share their findings. Theres also a reflection mod included which I disabled in the .ini file but it works too, it just needs tweaked properly which I don't have the time to do right now but it does make the planes give off reflections and it was pretty cool. A water mod is also in there as well but again I've not devled too deeply but knowing the Flight sim community just like the Driving sim community are a picky and rather resourceful bunch I'm sure you'll either hate it if have fun configuring it to suit your taste. To activate the mod just take the files named enbseries.ini and d3d8.dll from the zip file I attached and put it into your main Lockon directory. A few things to note, 1st up is my lomac flaming cliffs installation isn't working as I reinstalled windows and my disk is buggered so I've only tried this in lomac 1.0 but surely it will work in FC too, and 2nd is that no matter what resolution I set in lockon it always goes to 1024x786 when using the mod, it could be my lomac config thats warped as it was just a quick install and test. The file named enbseries.ini is the config file that controls all the effects and there are quite a few parameters that are adjustable but thankfully theres a readme that explains what each one does. Here's the files and some screens along with a link to the original creators website, he's got a guestbook so if it adds something to your LO enjoyment drop him a line saying thanks. Have fun tweaking and enjoy. Before After Before After Before After OH NoeZ nucular bombs :D http://boris-vorontsov.narod.ru/download_en.htm Lock On HDR.rar3 points

Just a heads up to let folks know that there's a new tutorial on my site: SEAD: KILLING THEATER DEFENSE (LONG-RANGE) SAM SYSTEMS. This is a short tutorial in which we take a leisurely flight (Su-25T) and use anti radar missiles to neutralize a long-range SAM system, the MIM-104 Patriot. There's a medium-range Hawk SAM system tossed in as well. The tutorial covers using of your missiles to their best advantage and evading the SAM launch. No heroics. Just simple flying. In this tutorial, I assume that you have an intimate knowledge of the SPO-15 "Beriosa" RWS. If that is not the case, you might want to download and watch "Understanding and Interpreting the SPO-15 'Beriosa'" located on the same page prior to watching this tutorial. Enjoy. Rich2 points

Flank first of all I don't hatred with you and scoring system update is not connected with your actions. I've been planned to update scoring system for along time. The reason why you shouldn't think that I made it against of you. We installed to =TuAF= Server I for human vs human encounters, that's why AI's musn't be so much important there. As you know that it's easy to kill AI controlled planes when you compare with human controlled plane. I hope you can understand me and give a right.1 point

I wouldn't say that :) At the time of Lockon (90'), most of the RWR were not able to detect an inbound AMRAAM : - we know that the missile only goes active around 10/15km of the targer due to the range limitation of the small antenna and to the fact that it's better to warn the target as late as possible. As a result, the RWR only has a couple of seconds of detection before impact :) - considered the level of heat/electronic noise in a RWR at this time, the computing power of the electronic and the frequency agility of the AMRAAM radar, the detection of the active seeker by integration processing would take a -long- time... To make it short, the principle of "integration" is to add multiple samples of signal over time : the background noise is supposed to almost canceled itself out as it is supposed to be purely random, and the seeker signal is supposed to grow over time if enough samples of signal are integrated (added). The problem is that the RWR cannot "sample" all the bandwith that the seeker can use : it's too large : it needs to cut it in smaller intervals. Of course, meanwhile, the radar seeker is jumping from frequency to frequency making the integration more difficult. Excepted in lucky cases, the AMRAAM should reach its target before the RWR could start singing :) - the Fox 3 are "lofted" during BVR engagement. As the result, they dive on their target at an angle that puts them out of most of the RWR coverage. Not singing RWR again :) To my opinion, the problem in Lockon is not the really way the missiles are modelised, but the way the SPO / RWR works : there are far too much efficient and give the opportunity to make a perfect defensive stunt. Without warnings, AMRAAM in Lockon could be far, far more efficient :) But considered that the SPO / RWR perform like very recent and efficient systems like the one in the F-22, Rafale, EF... BVR in Lockon cannot be realistic. Cheers :) Hub. PS : Another issue is the way the chaffs are handled by the radar : ie only the ratio noise vs SER is considered, as if the radar were simply pulse and not pulse -doppler- radar, you get some magic decoys incredibely efficient while going head on. Against a pulse doppler radar, chaff would be best if used while notching (or eventually pumping). But in Lockon it is the other way around. As a result, it is possible to push like mad, in an almost perfect immunity while flying a MiG-29 with a "small" SER. That's not the way it's supposed to be. PPS : and I don't want to speak about decent missile range increase for supersonic shots : flying high and fast in Lockon is purely useless... :(1 point

My response was confusing to you but it apears everyone else seems to have understood it correctly. Reading your last few posts in this thread makes it pretty clear. You often missread and miss place your replies (just like this one), apparently contradicting yourself. Colective respect is for Online gaming, Chilvarry and kindness is for these threads. I find them lacking when facing claims with practice. BTW In all the time since I subscribed, I have never started any AMRAAM thread (much less with 20+ pages)FYI. Whenever my oppinions about online beahviour differs from yours 1 or 2 menbers of your squad frequently come over here to give me yet another unccalled for lecture in chorus about my supposed anti <51>squad paranoia. Same old off topic dodgy excuses for everything and for nothing, its getting old. On a curious note: I helped to make a petition to Unban you about a year ago with wichKing, Mustang and others. You assume too much with the stereotype you flag me with publicaly. Im sick of it even when joking.1 point

IIRC there was a possible kill with a R-27 in the Eritrea vs Etiopia conflict with more than 20 R-27 missiles launched. You can get more info on this conflict at www.acig.org1 point

Don't worry about me, I won't accuse anyone of virtual snobbery if they disagree with my opinion. Is vulching cool , IMO , no.1 point

So when the enemy gets in the air -they- then have the advantage over you , perhaps you need to stop spending so much time practicing your vulching skillz and learn some new tactics in the air. Where does the HolyGrail come into this, is that some sort of confused sarcasm, best practice what you preach my friend. There is a big difference between chance vulching and just going into a server with the sole intention of vulching.1 point

I'm sorry but I never made any skins in the past so I don't have the skills to create it. But what i recommend is to look through the skins in this skin pack http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=74&lid=1105&ttitle=Su-27_Flanker_Skin_Pack_v2#dldetails i think at least one of them is what you are looking for.1 point

Suppose that I wanted to develop a WWII addon for BS at some point. Would that be feasible at all... or should I perhaps change my medication in order not to come up with such loony ideas in the future, eh ;)1 point

No I don't but your response was a strange, I was confused, why no 'GOODKILL' or 'MoMoMoMonsterKill', it just seems that whenever I or one of my comrades shoots you down, its because of LO's poor missile blahblahexploit just what till amraams get fixed yarn (the old one was 'wait till BlackShark') then create a 20 page thread about crappy AMRAAM's. And then whenever you manage to avoid fifty missiles while turning to face your opponent/s and then shoot one or two of us down without a scratch (thanks to LO's poor missile modeling) its quite cool cos your an ubber pilot an'all.:D1 point

Have to agree with Grimes and Viper on this. Altitude and target aspect are the determining factor with these weapons. From maximum range it is best to line your aircraft up for a head on/rear on attack, make sure to try and stay at least 2000m altitude when firing, this will give the vikhir longer to aquire the laser and stabilise in flight. For shorter ranges altitude is still the key, the higher you are at launch the better they will track in to the target, and as Grimes mentioned keep the nose pointed at the target as much as possible and watch your airspeed to avoid closing to fast, the faster your closure rate the more erratic the missile path.1 point

Post a track of your Attack-Run employing Vikhrs and we might be able to see where the Hiccups are creeping in :) Personally I do not experience the problems you are mentioning - as Grimes said - it might just be the attitude of your craft at launch. One thing is however certain - you gotta love those Devil-Darts :D1 point

Their path behavior does seem random doesn't it? I think 3-5 KM is the sweet spot for targeting with these things. Its all dependent of the path the missiles take after behind fired. Of what I noticed... it helps to be in a slight dive nose pointed just above the target. If its moving attack back to front, so the vehicles won't make their sudden turn to avoid a fire.1 point
