  4. Before editing any DCS .lua files which have editable content, never NEVER use Windows Notepad application. Using Notepad have a high probability of corrupting the actual file you are modifying due to a bad recognition of the UTF8 format and might cause problem inside your game and might be seen as a bug but in fact it's only because the file has been corrupted when you edited/saved it through Windows Notepad. DCS use the UTF8 format without BOM, so to avoid any problem within your DCS installation, we highly advise you to download a free open source program which is lightweight and very capable if you want to modify some editable content. The name of the editor is Notepad++ You can find the Notepad++ editor: From the Sourceforge website Visit the download page Direct link to version 5.1.2 Click to download Thank You

Over the range of speeds I tested, I observed a rather linear increase in both minimum as well as average frame rate as CPU clock speed increases. In this case, a 300 MHz increase in CPU speed gains approximately 2.8 average frames per second from 3GHz on up to 3.9. Raw data: E8400 @ 3.06 GHz (speedstep enabled) 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 850Mhz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 670 core 972 memory 1674 shaders. Frames: 16232 - Time: 480193ms - Avg: 33.803 - Min: 5 - Max: 61 E8400 @ 3.303GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 917.6MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 670 core 972 memory 1674 shaders. Frames: 17450 - Time: 480253ms - Avg: 36.335 - Min: 6 - Max: 62 E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 670 core 972 memory 1674 shaders. Frames: 20212 - Time: 479121ms - Avg: 42.185 - Min: 10 - Max: 62 3.06 to 3.303 yields 2.532 avg fps increase, 3.303 to 3.6 yields 3.22 avg fps more, 3.6 to 3.9 yields 2.63 avg fps increase. ***************Video Card Overclocks*************** While this OC isn’t major, it’s clear that the fps did not change any appreciable amount. In fact this GPU OC only nets .231 average fps better! Note that while I've got 8X Anisotropic Filtering running, I'm only using 2XAA - which is just fine at a higher resolution like 1920x1200. There really aren't any jaggies to speak of, and I think that getting rid of jaggies via resolution instead of adding blur of antialiasing looks better in sims (especially the cockpit). At higher AA settings perhaps the video card OC would show a little more of a change. The minimum frame rate is 1 fps better – however it would take many runs to confirm that this since it only takes one dip to create this data, while the average should be quite accurate over 8 minute runs. Raw data: E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 670 core 972 memory 1674 shaders. Frames: 18977 - Time: 479752ms - Avg: 39.555 - Min: 8 - Max: 62 E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) Overclocked to 700 core 1000 memory 1748 shaders. Frames: 19096 - Time: 479965ms - Avg: 39.786 - Min: 9 - Max: 62 ***************Cockpit texture Resolution 1024 vs 512*************** Here we see that setting cockpit textures to 512mb instead of 1024 improves average fps by only 0.219 fps on this system! Raw Data: E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks, “Resolution of Cockpit Textures” set to 512 Frames: 19079 - Time: 479674ms - Avg: 39.774 - Min: 8 - Max: 62 E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks “Resolution of Cockpit Textures” set to 1024 Frames: 18977 - Time: 479752ms - Avg: 39.555 - Min: 8 - Max: 62 ***************Two Cores vs One Core in Black Shark – Windows XP Pro 32*************** Allowing DCS to run on both cores instead of one resulted in an average increase of 1.07 fps Raw Data: E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks, CPU core affinity for DCS.EXE set to core 0. Frames: 18977 - Time: 479752ms - Avg: 39.555 - Min: 8 - Max: 62 E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks, but core 0 and 1 set to DCS.EXE. Frames: 19497 - Time: 479911ms - Avg: 40.626 - Min: 6 - Max: 62 ***************Conclusion*************** So in summary we see that Black Shark, like most Flight Simulators, is highly dependant on CPU clock speeds, and any increase in CPU clocks will lead to a noticable frame rate increase. On the other hand, video card overclocks, had minimal impact on performance, and neither did changing between 512mb and 1024 mb cockpit texture settings. . .at least on my machine. On lower end machines the 1024 textures might be a more obvious decrease in performance. For users with Core2Duo machines or similar, these settings are hardly worth worrying about, and the same can be said for the video card OC as the difference in each case was approximately 2/10ths of a frame!! We do see that it might be worth it to set the DCS.EXE to use both cores instead of one, even for Xp users. While there is a 2fps lower minimum frame rate, it’s clear that overall we have improved performance with both cores running – though only by a little over 1 frame per second. S! 10. Kamov Ka-50 "Black Shark" Checklist Fairchild Republic A-10C "Warthog" checklist can be found here : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=55949 I created 2 versions now of the Normal Checklist : - Normal Checklist (Beginner) This is the checklist as I started out, with keyboard and position columns for the beginner. - Normal Checklist (Pro) This is the same format/layout as a reallife professional checklist, it has no switch locations or keyboard shortcuts in it. This adds to the reality effect and can be used if you know where the switches are. Eventually you should be using the Pro checklist ofcourse. =-) Download: Normal Checklist (Beginner) Normal Checklist (Beginner) v2.1.pdf Normal Checklist (Pro) Normal Checklist (Pro) v2.1.pdf Probably the best thing is to print it out using 2 pages per side so one page has A5 size. Changelog: ************** Normal Checklist Version 2.1 ************* Stopped/Running engine temp gauge test figures added. ************** Normal Checklist Version 2.0 ************* Item location panels now correspond to the manual so beginners can find the items easier. Several items renamed to correspond to in game labels. ************* Normal Checklist Version 1.9.1 ************ Typo fixed thanks to ddahlstrom ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.9 ************* Fixed Fire Suppression mode label to OPER instead of WORK Moved Cyclic/Rudder/Collective Movement check before setting engines to Auto throttle, this way it is the normal way to check, not when the engines are in flight power, checking collective movement would cause the a/c to lift off. ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.8 ************* Fixed error in ground power key assignment, thanks Nightshadow81 ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.7 ************* Removed "Targeting Navigation System ON" as it is for ground/maintenance purposes ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.6 ************* Fixed a error, "INU Heat" first then "INU Power ON" ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.5 ************* Added Hot Refuel/Rearm Checklist During Shutdown checklists set Parking Brake First to prevent a/c movement in high wind conditions ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.4 ************* Added Collective Low Check before engine startup Added Governor L&R Off in shutdown checklist ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.3 ************* Some minor errors corrected Made a Pro & Beginner version Pro has no keyboard shortcuts and location columns ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.2 ************* Some errors corrected Items added that I missed Some orders changed (allthough in game the order doesn't seem to matter) All keyboard assignments added ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.1 ************* Some minor changes/errors I found while using the checklist they have been fixed now. ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.0 ************* Initial release.

  12. Hey guys. Here is a small sound "mod" that makes your KA-50 sound more like the ones you heard in my 2 movies "Edge" and "Project 50" (which were recordings of the real Ka-50 at airshows). :) Diveplane helped me out so credits go out to him, i just edited together the rotor sounds to sort of "loop" (though not 100% perfect, but oh well). Download: http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=23&file=996&lang=en Just put this file into your ...\Ka-50\Sounds\Effects folder and just replace the one already there. *remember to back up the original file though!* Have fun :) Thanks for hosting jabog!

  18. Hi HeavyZephyr, Yes, TrackIR 3 is supported in Black Shark. You will need to have the most current version of the software running (Version 4.1.036). Once installed, you should run a Game Update. After that, you should be able to use your TrackIR in BS. If you have any issues, feel free to contact us on our forums or at support@naturalpoint.com. Regards, Seth Steiling TrackIR Product Manager

  22. I understand that every credible source on the Web that I know of disputes that number as the actual resolution for the Wiimote, including the lead developer for FreeTrack as well as the most prominent sources on Wii Homebrew. I understand that I've provided sources to back this up. It's certainly much more than an "academic" detail. First, having a camera that refreshes at the same rate (or slower, for that matter) that the game refreshes is a problem. It needs to refresh at least twice as quickly. Why? Phase drift. It is inescapable, and it ensures that the camera will never perfectly update in sync with the video card/game. To account for this, you need multiple frames of motion capture to be available for each frame of the game. That way, even if it's not balls-on accurate, when the game updates the head tracking data, it will be very, very close. If you don't have that extra redundancy, when phase drift kicks in, actual real time updating becomes impossible. This is guaranteed to happen with any camera that has a low frame rate. This is why web cams and other low FPS cameras have motion blur, latency, and fidelity issues. Second, your understanding of FPS as it relates to motion tracking compares apples and oranges. Did you read my example about tracking a golf club? It's a pretty simple concept, I think--that being the difference between FPS as it pertains to an image/monitor/game's refresh rate versus a camera's refresh rate (especially when motion tracking is involved). In case you missed it, from a previous post: "Another way to look at it… imagine you’re watching video of a golfer practicing his swing. Let’s say his club head is being tracked by markers using a motion capture system. You’re watching the results on a monitor that’s refreshing at 35 FPS (5 FPS faster than television, I believe). First, his club head is tracked by cameras that update at 15 FPS. Then his club head is tracked by cameras that update at 400 FPS. In both instances, the monitor you’re watching on is refreshing at the same rate. But the tracking quality is going to be vastly different. Why is this detectable to the human eye? Because the FPS is not impacting what you see from your monitor. The FPS is impacting what the monitor receives. This concept is exactly the same as what happens with head tracking. Cameras w/ low FPS don’t accurately detect motion real time, which means that by the time your see the in-game view with your eyes, what you see is already outdated." OK, OK, noted. :music_whistling: TBH, I don't think this discussion has been about TrackIR or FreeTrack, really. Maybe on an ancillary level, but the bulk of the discussion has just been some spirited disagreement about the fidelity of a Wiimote-based tracking system--which I think is relavent, considering the nature of the OP's hardware setup. Nevertheless, consider my jets cooled, following this post. :pilotfly: I was thinking of something a little bit more masculine: ;)

  23. I forgot to mention to actually, a lot of the stuff i've mentioned works rather well against MANPADS and older SAM systems. The 2S6 (god help you if you encounter it) kind of throws a wrench in the whole works. It's missiles can engage you out to 8km, and its guns cover the middle ground out to a max of 4km. So, if the enemy has a solid ADA setup, i.e. there's a single radar site doing the hunting, and its feeding the data out to the gun units, life can get very interesting, and very, very bad for you in a hurry.
