  1. The official movie from the 2009 Training Season of the Virtual Aerobatic Team "BERKUTS" is online. With a length of three minutes, it shows some gracefull manuevers, nice 7-ship formations with a nice background of elegant music. A special feature for this and coming movies, is the high resolution of 1920x1080p, Full HD. To download the movie click here. To visit the V.A.T. "BERKUTS" forum, click here.

  16. That's okay - it doesn't depend on you as seeing it to be anything - it depends on resources and other things that are more realistic and practical in real life than someone's opinion. Also, RoF is by no means a standard. It has some very interesting things in it but erm - it has nothing to do with a jet combat sim. Further, I know you haven't kept up on this, but the graphics engine isn't the only thing getting updates every module - the AI and other things do as well ... including the ones on the ground. ;) Small concessions? Only for people who are stuck complaining about one little thing instead of seeing the whole. While you're here laying FUD, ED has been leveraging and extending the foundation of work they've laid with DCS: BS. This same foundation allows them to now upgrade or update other parts of the game while maintaining a certain standard of fidelity - and increasing it with each iteration. I'm sorry it's too slow for you - maybe you'll see a hornet in RoF? ;)

  17. Could someone please give me an example of the difference between the use of the DT and DH switches: DESIRED HEADING_ DESIRED TRACK ANGLE SWITCH The DH DT switch located on the RH sill panel provides either a Course Reference or Heading reference for the Auto pilot to maintain. In the Desired Track (DT) position the AFCS assumes that the pilot wants to fly the planned track to the active PVI800 Waypoint, that is it selects Course Line steering. A course deviation scale is displayed in the lower portion of the HUD. In the Desired Heading (DH) position the AFCS assumes the pilot wants to fly directly to the Active PVI800 waypoint. In the deselected position (centre) the AFCS assumes the pilot wants to maintain the last set reference heading.:helpsmilie:

  19. Everything, especially manuals should be written in plain English! It doesn't matter how stupid or intelligent you are, you are more likely to understand a complicated topic - such as this poxy Kamov's Russian logic :music_whistling:- if it's in easy to understand words! I couldn't agree more. ED if you want to employ my writing services for future manuals... :)

  23. In this case during an ejection not the "pilot" would be ejected upwards, but the helicopter downwards and the pilot would stay in space there where she is:surprise:. It's not so important how it saves lives as long as it does its' job.

  24. If your rotor speed drops low enough (during these fancy manoeuvres), the electrical generators do not produce enough power, momentarily shutting off the autopilot system. You know this has happened by the buttons flashing as the systems are now disengaged. Nate Edit:- Also consider assigning a button to engage/disengage the Heading hold, this is much easier that using the trim when changing heading. Disengage - change heading to desired direction - re-engage - Trim is unaffected. Alternatively Fly with the Flight Director on all the time.

  25. Hiya Fing, The only part you are missing about the PVI is the fact that it drives the heading and distance info on the HSI (round compass like guage on the lower left side next to the TV screen)...the numbers, while looking pretty, are only lat/long info, and only usefull for a select few hardcore ;) ... Use the HSI to see where the PVI waypoint is. the HSI is your primary navigation display, and gives you heading and range (and track angle) to the Selected PVI waypoint. The PVI also gives the same info to your HUD display, so will show a heading carrot on your HUD, and it also instructs the autopilot. What can (often) happen in combat, is for the AC power to drop out for various reasons (emergency stops degrading rotor RPM, or damage to the generators), in which case you will not have the ABRIS to navigate with.... the Abris is a great "quick look" SA tool, but your navigation will be much more accurate if you use the HSI and PVI .. The PVI stores up to 6 waypoints, and 2 airfields (all done automatically in the mission editor by the mission designer)..to access the waypoints, press the "waypoint" button, then press the number of the waypoint you want (1 .. 6), be aware!!!!... the PVI waypoints can be differnt names / numbers to the Abris waypoints! ... PVI Nav waypoint 1 is the first NON Takeoff waypoint... Takeoff and Landing airfields are stored seperately, and access by pressing the "Air Field" button, then either 1 (for takeoff field) or 2 (for landing field IF it is different from takeoff) so in short, the ABRIS is great, and usefull, but is only a navigation guide....accuracy and integration into the shark's AP and sterring systems is only via the PVI.

  26. My g/f laughs every time use my TIR but I have ben using it for years and I couldn't care .. once I answered the door forgetting I had a cap and trackclip on and, still, I am stoically committed to my TIR :-) The TIR makes a whole world of difference ... eventually you forget it is there and just look around naturally and you only notice when you *can't* use it in a game, not when you can.

  27. WarM, it's your purchase, you play how you want to. To play all missions in game mode, go to Options section from main screen, select gameplay options and click on Game at the bottom, and Apply to all missions. If you do get bored of playing rail shooter :smilewink: however, there's a great introduction/guide for beginners to the sim side here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2626185/STICKY_Tutorial_How_to_take_of.html#Post2626185 Like a Dummies Guide to Black Shark, will have you up and killing stuff in 10 minutes. Can't recommend it highly enough. As for the medals, I think they're points based, whereas the promotions are flying hours based? You might have to look around forums, all I know is that once I started bombing ships, they couldn't give me medals fast enough.

  28. Maybe you should read my post? Unless you're being sarcastic but the absence of smiley didn't suggest so, and in which case ignore me! What I was saying is that sometimes the plain English explanation is great! I can read and am relatively intelligent () but the manual for certain things just sounds like gobbledegook. I appreciate that may come across as a bit thick, or maybe I am impatient but I've learn't a hell of a lot from posters on here, both ED team and members about how to fly the thing. I just don't want to put off noobs like me, who are worried about asking a question. Like everything there should be a balance - you should take the time to learn it yourself to a point but a bit of advice from a poster is sacred sometimes. I think that anyone who has read this forum and actually bothers posting having bought the sim knows what they are in for and that it won't be easy, which filters the HAWX people out. I just wouldn't go too far the other way and be too exclusive to people who at the end of the day are just the general public. So thats why 'RTM' responses are not always helpful. (IMHO!) :smilewink:

  29. It's funny, I didn't know there was a shortcut until after I figured out how to start the damn thing lol. You may be right, if you're looking to blow stuff up right away then autostarting may be a better idea so as not to lose interest. Still I liked it but I geek out on stuff like that lol. If I can say one bad thing about all the switches in the cockpit it's that they are making me want to buy a damn TrackIR bad.

  30. Can you post some screenshots showing that things that are rendered on your centre screen are not rendered on your side screens when you do nothing but turn your head? What do you mean by "not rendered very well"? I suspect what you are seeing is an LOD issue, where units are replaced by low-poly "blocks" under certain conditions, and it's possible that very wide aspects are not properly considered by the engine when determining what is outside the FOV for LOD rendering?

  31. Awesome! Just pure perfection! Is this on YouTube in HD too? Others need to watch this! I downloaded the movie in 1080p and never have I seen Lock On FC looking that good! Just awesome! Can´t wait for more of this! How often do you guys train for this and how long does it take before one can accomplish these skills? Are some of you real pilots? Takes some time to accomplish such skills! Respect for that! :) 10/10.

  32. You want a dumbed down version? Desired Heading: Flies you directly towards whatever waypoint you have selected, regardless of where you happen to be when you activate it. Desired track angle: Flies you to the closest point between your last waypoint and the one you have selected and then follows the line towards the selected waypoint. Middle position: Keeps you heading in whatever direction your were facing when you released trim. EDIT: Maybe you want to know why/when to use each one? Desired track angle is used primarily when you need to follow a specific course (ie: to get through known SAM coverage. Desired heading just gets you to the waypoint by the fastest route.

  34. Here is a mission I've been working on the last few days. Be advised that the mission opens with an opening scene of a recon flight and then you are placed in the cockpit on the runway ready to go in about a min. The briefing for the mission is below. Enjoy........ ron ----------------------------------------- Our limited forces have recently taken over the airbase west of the city and are awaiting the main force and supplies to arrive. Opposing forces east of the city have set up a road block east of the river on the main highway. It has been relativly quiet until this morning when a local Recon flight was surprised and shot down by a mobile SAM installation that must have arrived in the area of the road block late last night and the airport has been under rocket attack. Our aircraft availability at this time is low. 2 Mig 29's are awaiting parts from an inbound transport that is scheduled to arrive soon, however, the inbound transport has gone NORDO (no radios) and is unaware of the SAM threat. The remaining 2 Mig 23's are operational, however, aircover will be unavailable until the SAM threat is eliminated. Launch with your wingman and follow the flight plan route in an effort to surprise the SAM site from the hills to the north. Destroy the SAM site and provide support for two tank groups heading to the area to hold the bridge. Be advised that we have a rescue helicopter enroute to search for the crew that was shot down this morning. You should also be advised that we have received unconfirmed reports of a FARP that has been established to the east which could provide close air support. Once the SAM site is down we will launch air cover as it becomes available. Good Luck! Road Block.miz
