  4. Download Phantom's Operation Freedom v15 ONLY FOR VERSION 1.02 Installation via MODMAN +++ ENG +++ Good morning, gentlemen! The military intelligence service reports enemy activity around the cities of Abrau-Dyurso, Bol'shie Khutora and Verkhnebakanskij. They expect infantry, BMPs, Shilkas, Avanger and Leopard 2 main battle tanks. Right now the cities Borisovka, Kirilovka and Tsemdolina are under heavy artillery fire. It is our mission to put an end to this. "SEALS" have captured the airports near My'skhako and Kry'msk and airforce bases have been established. The satellite link is down, so we can't estimate the precise strength of the enemy forces. The terrorists have stolen a HAWK and a PATRIOT system, which could not be located yet. SpecOps teams are underway trying to find them. We expect a counter-attack anytime. "Operation Freedom" starts at 0900. Freedom Alpha (1.1 - 1.4): Phase 1: Target area 1-3: Search & destroy. Phase 2: Destroy artillery and support Bravo at target area 4. Phase 3: Target area 5: Support Bravo in order to destroy the enemy military base. Freedom Bravo (2.1 - 2.4): Phase 1: Target area 4: Search & destroy. Phase 2: Destroy artillery and support Alpha if required. Phase 3: Target area 5: Support Alpha in order to destroy the enemy military base. Task for RED: +++ ENG +++ Freedom Alpha (1.1 - 1.4) Phase 1: Follow the waypoints 2 & 3. At waypoint 3 attack the target areas 1-3. Expected enemy forces consist of infantry, BMPs, Shilkas, Avanger and Leopard 2 main battle tanks. The exact enemy positions are unknown. Phase 2: After the target areas have been liberated mark artillery positions with signal flares. Annihilate the artillery at once! Then support Freedom Bravo at target area 4 (northeast of waypoint 4) if required. Phase 3: Join up with Freedom Bravo at waypoint 5 and attack target area 5. Watch out! Enemy forces there consist of ZU-23 emplacements, Leopard 2, T-72 and T-80 main battle tanks, Avanger, Osas and Strelas. The exact enemy positions are unknown. Freedom Bravo (2.1 - 2.4) Phase 1: Follow the waypoints 2 & 3. At waypoint 3 attack the target area 4. Expected enemy forces consist of manpads, Strela's, Rolands's, BTR-80, Shilka's and T-80 main battle tanks. The exact enemy positions are unknown. Phase 2: After the target areas have been liberated mark artillery positions with signal flares. Annihilate the artillery at once! Then support Freedom Alpha at target areas 1-3 (south of target area 4) if required. Phase 3: Join up with Freedom Alpha at waypoint 4 and attack target area 5. Watch out! Enemy forces there consist of ZU-23 emplacements, Leopard 2, T-72 and T-80 main battle tanks, Avanger, Osas and Strelas. The exact enemy positions are unknown. Important information! You'll be supported at target areas by friendly units consisting of HMMWVs, Stryker, Bradleys, M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks and Linebackers. As soon as our carrier "USS Carl Vinson" arrives at its destination, a convoy will hit the road to establish a FARP northwest of Supsekh (south of Anapa). Godspeed! 8. Having gone through almost every generation of joystick from an early Binatone, grandstand ‘astro wars’, (with ½” stick!), to Atari VCS 2600, (with CX40) MSX, (with competition pro), Amiga with (with competition pro ‘transparent’), Quick shot 1, 2 & 5 (Multiple. These had terrible bubble micro switches which easily punctured, leading to playground mini-industries repairing them with sellotape), Sega Master system, Megadrive, PS1, Nintendo Wii, leading to a Saitek cyborg & cyborg evo for my PC’s. So, several joysticks then. Not an expert, more of a veteran. Over the past few years I have toyed with flight Sims, (PC), from F/A-18 interceptor (yay!), on the Amiga to DCS Black shark on the PC, and have finally decided, (after the debacle of Empire Total War & selling my dust gathering Wii), that flight Sims are where it’s at as far my game playing goes, (exiting & technical. Both boxes ticked). I therefore trawled around for a ‘proper stick’, (for about 6 months), having decided that my floppy and annoying Cyborg Evo just didn’t have enough buttons. And the throttle was pants. In short I wanted a HOTAS but I didn’t want to shell out £300 otherwise I would invoke the wrath of wench™,( and in any case, I might throw a massive strop in a few months if SOW still isn’t out & Napoleon TW comes out and go back to strat games). I found a 2nd hand Thrustmaster Cougar going cheap, (about £80 with P&P), and took the plunge. It had seen better days and was in need of some TLC, (creaky stick movement, oxidised connectors – probably been in a garage, broken S2 pickle micro switch, faulty H4 hat in RT position, broken speedbrake, creaky throttle, not to mention the unfathomable software. After 3 days of chin scratching deciding whether to send it back or keep it as a “doo-er upper”, I began trawling forums and found a wealth of knowledge and advice out there, apart from the massive gravity well caused by the apparent disappearance of FRUGALSWORLD several months earlier where most of the best info for the cougar & falcon were held, or so I hear. Ho-Hum, I always miss the party. After stumbling across Cougarworld, and their priceless parts lists & articles, I decided to keep the kit, (after all it was really cheap and I am a bit of a DIY-er). So, Game on. Dismantled handle & de-soldered faulty micro switch and declared it dead. took it to Maplins and got the closest one they had, which, encased in the corpse of the old switch + blue tack, and after grafting the old micro switch tip onto the new one, the S2 pickle button now works. SORTED. Re-greased gimbals in stick & thoroughly checked all potentiometers, (common Cougar casualty, although mine were fine luckily). No more creaks and stick now silky smooth. Oxidisation polished off connectors. Dismantled throttle and re-greased axle, bearings + detents. Added a strip of shiny electrical tape to axle to tighten up torque slider as I don’t like a floppy throttle. It’s now silky smooth and firm (ooer). I plan to remove the detents or at least one of them as they are a bit annoying and a definite girlfriend-disturber. I emailed Thrustmaster support with a shopping list of parts I want to replace to freshen up the stick, (micro switches, a hat & a couple of spare pots), and they got back to me within a week and the parts are 1 euro each ( + 5 euros delivery). ONE BLOODY EURO. THAT’S AMAZING. I am going to totally refurb the stick for a few quid. I might actually get round to some flying at some point but I am having too much fun in a Fred Dibnah / James May sort of a way ATM. After a short time flying this thing I can honestly say that along with my trackIR & repurposed G25 pedals, (sod bloody driving games), the HOTAS makes the sim for me. No more faffing about with the keyboard. Just a button map on screen 2 and away I go. So….. · Come back Frugalsworld, you were gone before I ever saw you! (like nirvana) · Please bring out FF5.3 that bloody works in modern OS + Nvidia cards · Bollox to BS trimmer implementation (s) · Bring on A-10 & BOB, oh and FC2

  9. This pdf-manual visualizes the performance datas for the F-16C-52 (Falcon AF) and it is based on an extraction from the sim-data itself (1:1). The graphs display values for 25%, 50% and 100% fuel at 1000ft, 5000ft, 10.000ft, 15.000ft, 20.000ft and 25.000 feet. 15. Open Falcon Freeware: Mod/Add-on based on original Falcon 4.0 from Micropose Installer can be found here: http://www.f4support.com/forums/index.php Not user friendly for those new to the F4 sim. Hardest F4 version to install Most realistic F4 version for the F-16 (F4 is an F-16 sim after all), because it has the most realistic avionics suite for F-16 in comparison to other F4 versions Hardest on your PC (FPS) / Minimum requirements are high You actually use the radios in the jet to communicate (IVC) You can set up your own Data Cartridge and use realistic features of Data Link (Improved Data Modem). Worst Campaign and Mission Builder Good graphics. Better then AF, comparable with FF5 Very stable multiplayer if configured correctly Current development is cosmetic improvements only by the community here. Original OF dev team is no longer, and we can't edit the exe to make significant changes. Allied Force Payware: Leadpursuit http://www.lead-pursuit.com/news.htm my personal suggestion to use in combo with: HiTilesAF Terrain Mods: http://www.hitiles.com/indexF4AF.htm Aeyes 3D cockpits f16am_wide_superpit_v1.0.exe f16am_wide_superpit_v1.1.exe f16am_wide_superpit_v1.4.exe from cockpit.nl: http://www.cockpits.nl/ for widescreens or Zerk 3D pit 2.0 (freeware) http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/s...d.php?t=113210 Most user friendly Easiest to install Dynamic Weather (something OF/FF/RV don't have) Limited options to configure/customize your install Easiest on your PC No cockpits for other aircraft, and no 6DOF or 'clickable' 3D cockpits Best Campaign and Mission Builder Worst Graphics Rock solid multiplayer Limited weapons (no JDAMs, JSOWs, etc...), and some weapons systems are simplified (HARM, Mavericks, GBUs, and threat circles) Development has been finished for a long time. Nothing new will come out for AF. And Lead Pursuit doesn't offer any support. Only support available is over at frugals forum. Free Falcon 5 Freeware: stand-alone istallation Installer can be found here: http://www.freefalcon.com/forum/ Newest release from the F4 community (much hyped). But like all new F4 releases, it has some bugs in its current state. (EDIT: Hotfix has been released, which means less bugs) Easier to install then OF (don't need original Falcon 4.0 CD), but still harder to install and set up then AF. Comes with far more 2D/3D cockpits for other (non-F16) aircraft Harder on your PC then AF but better then OF Fully functional Carrier Ops Better Campaign and Mission Builder then OF but not as good as AF Great graphics, arguably the best graphics of all F4 versions Unstable multiplayer (for the large majority of users). Same issues for MP as FF4/RV had. Development team is still together and making improvements. Patch/Hot Fix is being worked on to try and fix the bugs (hot fix has been released and is available at freefalcon.com). And support is available by devs at free falcon forum FF4/RV FF5 lite Coming Soon/Hype SevenG: An F/A-18 sim that has a lot of potential and a great dev team. Expected release date is Jan. 1st 2010. (already past) DCS Black Shark w/ A-10C Add-on: Hyped to be best A-10C sim. Also supposed to have F-16 and other Russian fixed wing aircraft add-ons on the way w/ ~9 month intervals between releases. Fighter Ops Rumors/Buzz Lead Pursuit is working on something but won't say what it is... Open Falcon 5.0 or BMS 5.0 is closing ...:music_whistling: ( i haven´t said that) Dead/RIP The original OF dev team SAAFOPS The Free Falcon/Red Viper joint dev team (they split into 2 separate groups) Cheers ********* Personal add from me: FreeFalcon and Openfalcon are definitly worth trying or giving it a shot...for sure... A very good source of any kind of dicsussions based on falcon is always good ole frugals forums. http://www.freefalcon.com/forum/ (currently down) But for most online expierience and stability i suggest FalconAF. (Hyperlobby support also) For TCL www.teamcombatleague.ca we only use Falcon Allied Forces !

  21. You may might be right. I haven't even thought of this concept, but I know this art. However if you look at this concept, it might be close to what Sukhoi really worked on. It is not something OUT-OF-THE-BLUE or S-F like. Pretty much incorporates many known aerodynamic and stealth solutions. I wouldn't be surprised when PAK-FA happens to be close in its looks to this fictional concept art.

  23. I totally agree  And one other thing that will boost online play is a statistics page online for all registered servers to keep player statistics. It should however be a choice to have a registered server so teams can play/prac without destroying their statistics. This game statistics is widely used by all First Person Shooters that I have played through the years. Why this is not a part of this community I don’t know, but I do know that you get bored when just completing the same map again and again without any chance to see your improvement. If this community is trying to attract more players this is the way to go. If this community only wants to focus on the SIM and making good campaigns you are already there :) Producing a dedicated server might require a lot of resources from ED! Producing statistics pages are mostly done by communities if the game saves the necessary data. One of the better statistics pages for BF2 as an example: http://bf2s.com/player/44296914/ ®

Thanks for the reply It think what you mean is that when it came to designing the DCS game engine they designed it very badly Sooooooo many other games have the ability to change settings without having to exit Maybe the next game they work on something , they will spend more time thinking things out properly instead of just jumping in and coding stuff

  29. Practice, practice and more practice. As said above, do some low level flights through the valleys to practice handling. When I was learning basic flight I just created a simple mission in the editor with just one Ka-50 and waypoints to various areas of the map and just started it up and flew. On several occasions I flew from one side of the map to the other stopping for fuel at planned points along the way. IMHO there is no trick to learning to fly and fight the Hokum, apart from lots and lots of practice. I still start up that same simple mission now and practice landings and low level flight etc just to keep my self current.

  31. Nobody's perfect ;) That's a negative sir, you dont need to be Zalman fan nor use any "after-market cooling equipment" ;). Reference Intel cooler (box CPU version) is good enough to O/C your CPU to 4GHz. Im getting 100% stable O/S on my own with temperatures between 30*C/85*F (idle) and 65*C/150*F (stress). Proof? http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/3008/cputemp4kopia.jpg Ofcoz you need well cooled case to reach such results. I meant higher freq. CPU with 2 cores > lower freq. CPU with 4 and more cores. Thought I was clear on that issue? i5-750 would be the worst choice imho (at least choosing from i5 family). Poor frequency (2.66 GHz), high power usage (95 W, while the other i5 use only 73) and old 45 technology (vs 32 nm for the rest of i5 processors). Personally i'd go for some Core2Quad (preferably Q9650 (3GHz), eventually Core2Duo. U may take a look at this site: http://www.komputronik.pl/index.php/category/407/Core2_Duo_%28S775%29.html to get some info and see what is a bestseller in my country. 10/10 and 201 reviews says much, but E8500/E8600 may be even better. But you need an original Blackshark to patch it, what may cause problems for some ppl... :P You talking about yourself right?

  32. Noobs, I suppose I am one too but have been flying air combat sims ever since they existed in a reasonably credible form so that goes back to 1994 at least. Black Shark certainly sets the standard others will now have to aspire to. I have been flying the Ka50 (simulation/real mode) regularly since Christmas and am very comfortable with all aspects of flight control, most navigation and a straightforward method of weapons magagement/deployment. Partly for my own use but to share with others as well I have prepared a beginners tutorial. This was announced earlier but there have since been useful upgrades so am posting notification here. The tutorial is a single page of essential topics and there are links to two practice missions you can download and use with the tutorial. The document is here: http://www.wolfwillow.com/nu/westwind/Simulation_Gaming/Ka50/Tutorial.php If the number of hits keeps growing I will add more material from time to time. I have attempted dealing with most of the issues I found troublesome when first learning the sim. You will find topics on take-off/landing, hovering, stability control, etc. Best wishes, JH

  33. There is actually a minimum temperature for the oils in the engines and gearboxes below which they require heating from an external source before starting. It depends on the type of oil used, but it typically around -30C. If below that temp., you must heat the gearboxes with some kind of heater (helps to be in a hangar at this point, but we've also been known to use ducting to blow warm air onto the gearboxes). For the engines, here are the specific procedures for extreme cold: *If the compressor rotor blades are frozen to the stationary components or icing is detected on the engine components, heat the engine with hot air at a temperature rot exceeding 80°C using ground heaters for the purpose of delivering hot air into the engine gas flow duct. After heating make sure that the rotors rotate easily and are free from ice. *If in winter the engine oil temperature is minus 30-40°C before start it is necessary to perform 2 engine crankings, with 3 minutes intervals between them. *In order to ensure reliable start of the engines in winter at ambient temperatures of -5°C or below after a prolonged parking period (for 24 h or more) it is necessary to crank the engines before start. Cranking the engines is similar to starting them, but you don't put any fuel into the engines. The start switch on the start panel is defaulted to "START" but can also be switched to "CRANK" or "FALSE START". A false start is like a crank but fuel gets injected into the engine, but is not ignited. Here are a few more cold-related procedures to follow once the engine are started, but before advancing the throttles to AUTO: Powerplant warm-up. Test of flight controls and hydraulic system (1) Warm up the powerplant at idle power with the collective pitch control lever at the lower stop, the throttle control twist grip turned fully to the left, the engines throttle levers latched in the neutral position. (*Note, this is the Mi-17, for the Ka-50 it means leave the throttle levers in the IDLE position.) (2) In the course of the powerplant warming up monitor the powerplant instruments which readings should be within the limits indicated in Section 2. In all cases the warming up period should be not less than 1 min. (3) It is allowed to accelerate the engines from idle up to higher power ratings after the engine outlet oil temperature reaches +30°C and the main gearbox oil temperature reaches at least -15°C. (4) In the course of the engines warming up switch on the command radio. (5) Test the flight controls and the hydraulic systems at idle power following the procedure below: (a) Alternately move the control stick and pedals to make sure that the controls move smoothly, without jerks and jamming. (b) At ambient temperature below 30°C apply the control stick in small increments to ensure pumping of the АМГ-10 hy-draulic fluid through the system for the purpose of its warm-ing up.

  37. Mission creation suggestions : - Let us face a proper challenge(don't pit an army against terrorists anymore)! Instead let us fight an enemy who has means to defend him self(proper defenses not Stinger armed infantry). . - Don't place many units on the target area, instead place fewer units smartly! Some units acting as targets and some defenses in the proper positions. No 50 tanks defended by 5 AAA or the reverse! Its unrealistic an the frame-rate will degrade... (The unit templates in ME will help to this direction). - Try to think like the enemy, put yourself in enemy's position! Don't place enemies like ducks in the shooting range. Think like that... "I got 6 tanks and 2 AAA, where should I put them in-order not to be so vulnerable and be able to defend themselves?". Make pilot's life somewhat hard. - Mission Objectives should be achievable, if you take the proper payload, without having to rearm. Don't put objectives like "destroy 30 tanks". Force the pilot to cooperate with wingmen and/or other squads to complete missions. One squad hit defenses, other squad strike a camp. -Missions that start normally! Start from a FARP/Airbase several kilometers/miles away of the enemy positions. FARPs aren't placed 5 or 10 km away from the enemy cause even a heavy mortar can hit them. Make the pilot put some effort in flying to the target area. - Remember that if a sortie lasts 1 hour overall, the attack itself is a quick but intense procedure that lasts a few minutes. - MP missions shouldn't require too many participants... Don't try to recreate the Battle of Britain! Few participants that will leave few/no slots empty. Suggestions to the player/participant : -Use Voice-Com and use Data-Link. Cooperate with others effectively, in modern war there are no heroes nor cowboys(these died in the effort long ago!)... Only winning side and loosing side, everyone contributes to it. -Pick a specific task and concentrate to it. Don't try to hit everything everywhere.(the mission should be designed that way too) ASK Feuerfalke FOR ANY DETAILS... HE HAS SOME AWESOME IDEAS(page #1)!!!

  38. @ Admins: 1. Open servers. Most servers are empty 23hours a day, but still locked. 2. Offer Teamspeak/Ventrilo servers. 3. Don't run the same single mission 24/7. 4. Don't make a 32 player limit and offer only 2 player-maps. @ Mission-Makers: 1. More PvP-Missions would be nice. 2. More difficult missions. Bashing terrorists in their huts is nice, but some active enemy CAP, moving units and AI-units fighting would be nice. @ Players (should be added in your list as this is the most critical part): 1. Read the briefing. 2. Yes, REALLY READ THE BRIEFING! 3. If you don't want to read the briefing, don't complain. 4. Teamwork - don't play for points, play for teamwork and fun, communicate and share located targets and threats. 5. Use comms if available. 6. Did I mention: Read the briefing? Stats would be great and/or logbook recording online-performance.

  41. hello, some questions comes very often so i will try to answer them. files that still with old textures: -conflict with another cockpit mod. by using this "export" mod you don't need anymore teka's english mod. -temp texture file still has files installed by previous cockpit mods, and that has not been removed by modman. do it manually. - some planes are not modified. SU 25 is not done at all, and shares some new textures with old ones. that was the reason why i didn't want to release the mod sooner. i had to finish 27 and 33 not to have the same problem. 29s was finish in december 2008.....so you could have flight with this plane much sooner. i will work on the 25 when ED will have release the new version. orange needles in jauges : i couldn't find the way to change it, if someone has the answer :smartass: i will love him..... same for the orange cockpit ambiant light. - US pilot in 25 t MFD, mistake, it will be fixed in the 1.1 - 29 rpm jauge that changes (biger) in night light, i will correct that. - russian mistakes have to be modified. - 29A stick needs to be done -what are those grids on the right side of the 25t ? they are classified tactic informations so i hided them before the release of the public mod :music_whistling: - pilot legs : i have put graphics that helps me in flight. for the future versions i am open to any suggestions. Some new versions will follow : Full russian (1.0 R) and later a "orange light" version. This one will take time because it needs to rework all the jauges. I will wait for the release of 1.1 version, to have collected all mistakes from community reports. So, i need your reports and help to increase the quality and accuracy of it. At the moment, i need : HD picts of the Hud buttons informations about a way to change the tone of the night ambiant light of the cockpit (from orange to blue) 29G and 29A will be on version 1.2 thanks for your future comments and picts contributions. ricardo

  42. The i5 is a baby i7 - dual channel memory no HT and a locked Hz multiplier. The i7-860 & i7-870 have higher clock speeds, HT but still dual channel memory & locked Hz multipliers. All 3 have their own socket "LGA1156" which is smaller than the "LGA1366" the i-920, i-940 & i-965 all use the larger socket, tripple channel memory, and don't have the frequency multiplier locked. (The 3 new "i" series chips also have a MUCH lower power use than the original "big" i-7's) All the "i" series have built in "turbo" mode which "borrows power from idle cpu cores to overclock active threads". This is up to +266MHz for the original 9 series, +667MHz for the 5 & 8 series So for apps running on a single core... i-7 860 > 2.80GHz + 0.667Ghz = 3.467GHz max for "turbo" mode i-7 940 > 2.93GHz + 0.266GHz = 3.197GHz max for "turbo" mode

  46. No, they don't ... it's just a side effect of using the double rotor; other manufacturers have chosen to -not- use that configuration. It says nothing about 'better aerodynamics'. It is, however, a neat maneuver.
