  1. Seriously folks..... A Flightsim or game whatever the heck you want to call it was built not out of fresh imagination like Star Wars or something like that.... It was built to MIRROR a few things from the Real World. The Radar was built in the real world to Operate and provide certain features for the Operator... So when you have a flightsim that tries to simulate a few things on a Radar you can Operate it how ever you want... Operate using what we claim is real world procedures or a mix thereof... Or Operate it however you want... Please don't post telling me about how your terminology calls FC2 a game instead of a flightsim etc... Or that the Eagle Radar in FC2 is porked really bad to the point of not being called an Eagle Radar... That is not my intention to talk any of that. You are not telling me anything I haven't thought of........... but I will say that I Certainly haven't lived with Mom in Decades hehe So that being said. To each his own and I do agree with Tyger and his program... but I understand that it is not very sensitive to those lacking skills or not fully understand the depth and reasoning behind the training philosophy etc... Tyger MAY NOT be as sensitive to peoples emotions same as GG and myself about skill level and discipline, but I must say that there is something to all this so called standardization thing... Lots of Rote memorization and flow verify switchology methodology and constant problem solving and analysis in a cockpit is the BACKBONE of a Fighter Pilot for example. He does not survive well without it in the real world. So meerly saying rote memorization is all you guys focus on in the end of training is probably not the case. I would venture to say that after this program is complete with all your skills and rote memory knowledge you know have the opportunity as a team standardized together to mesh on another level of basic pride, advanced learning together and communication improvement etc... (Standardization at a certain level is priceless when in the right control of good leadership and good followership) I have much more fun when my wingman and I are in the same boat of knowledge and basic skill level.... Respectfully my humble opinion, "44th_Rooster"

  2. The people who comment about the state of MP "AirQuake" in Lomac are normally the ones who are keen to coordinate and fly to a more real standard. I see the easy no cost solution that we can all do right now regardless of server or mission. Join the server team coms, someone put their hand up for the commanders role and give everyone a quick five min brief on what he/she would like to be done. Everyone else simply do what the commander has briefed you on, after an hour or so swap and give someone else a go at the commanders role. Anyone who doesn’t participate on your team well best of luck to them. The more varied the tactics and operations the more we will learn what works and what doesn’t. Debrief if you can to cover lessons learnt and highlight good performances. Last night IraqiOutlaw, Mouse, Warhammer and myself linked up on 104th TS and with a little team work brought getting our butts kicked back to a level of getting our butts kicked less. Though our teamwork was ok it could have been tons better and don't we all want to learn how to achieve that regardless of what squad you fly for?

  3. Well... lets say that good pilots like most to be around other good pilots. Being around mediocre pilots that have difficulty just getting into a hover or do not understand the datalink system diminishes the fun of the more skilled pilot to some degree at the least. When you are very good at DCS, you want a wingman (or flight leader) that is very good at DCS too. It's not elitism, it's people wanting to associate with those who they will have the most fun flying with, and have most in common with. They don't want every mission to be a training mission instead of a combat mission! If you are that mediocre pilot, instead of getting offended at this, you should be hitting the books and learning the helo so that it no longer applies to you! ;)

  4. I have decided to publicly release the latest iteration of "Capturing Maykop" for usage on any and all public servers. What is Capturing Maykop? Capturing Maykop is a dynamic team vs team objective based mission. The goal of the mission is to secure and hold Maykop Airbase. The mission has nearly 1000 triggers that govern all aspects of the mission. How do you capture the airbase? To capture the airbase is a relatively simple task, it is by no means easy. A team must enter a 35 km radius around the base and prevent all enemies from entering this area. Once you control the airspace a convoy will move in an make Maykop available as a FARP for your team. Transports with additional reinforcements will airdrop air defenses to the base. These defenses start off small and gradually become more advanced. Exactly, how does it work? It functions like a King of the Hill scenario commonly found in other games. The first team to enter the airspace starts to capture it. The more friendlies in the airspace the faster it captures. It takes anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes to capture the airspace. If you leave the airspace after you start capturing it, the capture percentage will decrease until it reaches 0%. You may re-enter it at any point as long as your team is capturing it and its above 0%. It moves up or down in 5% increments. The enemy team can block the progress by entering the airspace. If the enemy enter a empty airspace that is decreasing, the rate of decrease will double. Once it is drained to 0% it will take about 30 seconds before either team can start capturing again. Once a team captures the airspace the focus is on protecting ground assets near Maykop. If all ground forces are destroyed in the vicinity of the base, the mission "resets" to a previous state where both teams are trying to re-secure the airspace. To be considered "In the airspace" you must be. Within 35km of Maykop At an altitude of 1000m Above Sea Level Flying a fighter aircraft. (Ka-50, Su-25A/T, A-10 have to effect on airbase capture) Terms of Use 1. DO NOT make any modifications to the trigger system unless otherwise approved by the mission creator. With the sheer amount and complexity of the trigger system it is very very easy to break. 2. The mission briefing must stay intact except for exemptions listed below. 3. AI and client unit composition, location, skill level, callsign, tailnumber, and waypoints are not to be modified. Client payloads, skin, and Ka-50 ABRIS data can be modified. What edits can be made? 1. Time, Date, Season, and weather can all be adjusted to your choosing 2. Forced Server Settings 3. Minor briefing edits to the "general" briefing page. You may add specific server info where stated in the mission editor. Do NOT delete or change the format of mission creation details, Special Thanks, and Version number information. 4. Any Triggers specific to server. (The last trigger in the list where it chooses which mission to load) What about custom versions or bugs? Please feel free to contact me with any ideas you may have to improve the mission. I will be more than willing to listen to all ideas. Also keep in mind any change will be available for all, I will not make "server exclusive" versions of the mission. The mission should be quite bug free, but like all things created by non-sentient beings there could be a bugs or typos. Please do not try to fix them yourself. Contact me, tell me what the problem is, and I will attempt to fix it. ================== Download Version Number 3.0.0.7

  6. Some bad run; (my mistake); and some very enjoyable run on the 51st server tonight. As you can see of the results there sure are important with air cover from your team. I could definitely not done all the ground units without the exelent cover by Pilotasso; =AF=[Wodan] and Viper_1; I am so grateful for this. There were some other ones as well but they left before I screened the thing. The bad run was with a Su-25T trying to take on the ship group. Flying a long way round the mountains but ended up way way up the map and was spotted by RIPTIDE of course. I don’t think it’s even possible to take on the ship group when there are a bunch of RED fighters. (HJ)

  7. They are one generation back, so, lower end. If it was a 5870, that would be a different story. Just like the 200 series from nVidia is lower end now. Replaced by the 400 (fermi).

  9. Nothing is stopping you from turning away in the flanker when you see the F-15 pilot do the same thing. End result, no one hits their target, both aircraft (assuming agressive pilots) turn back into each other and re-attack. There's no reason for you to hold lock once the F-15 starts to turn away. You won't hit anyway in that case, so save yourself.

  16. That's a bold statement. Even if you were a pilot of an aircraft of practically the same shape and size that Su-25 is it wouldn't be enough to make your claims legitimate due to pretty extreme differences in stall and spin characteristics between two wings of the same shape (contour) and size but different airfoil (edit: plus the same tail configuration and 'arm'). Also if you decide to argue abour ED's FMs inaccuracies I highly suggest you pick something different than mass distribution or momentums of inertia as these are one of the easiest elements 'to get them right' ;) Out of curiosity - what ACs of the closest resemblance to Su-25 did you fly? That combined with the information on what airfoil they used on Su-25 could help but taking ED's recent achievements I doubt there's any sense discussing their AFMs. On the other hand they did make some improvements to the Su-25 AFM in FC 2.0, as I mentioned before.

  17. LOL, neither do I!!! I notice that now. I simply did a copy and past of the DCS GUI manual. Looks like they copied from FC1, but then changed it. Try turning up cockpit sounds and turning down all else. This will get nagging Nadia back.

  18. The mk-83 is exclusive to the USN not the Air Force. At least it was so in the 90's but I haven't heard any diferent. the -82's and -84's are both adequate for their different target types. Staffan

  20. If you are able to ban someone in servman while they are on the server, they will be automatically added to the ban list. First type /players to get the player number. Then type /ban 5 for example. If they have already left, look in the servman logs for their info and add it manually to the conf_banned.lua file. Make sure that you get the formatting right! Make a back up copy just in case. Pay special attention to the last entry as there is no "," used at the end of the entry. You can update Servman after editing the file while the server is still running to include the new bans. Type /reinit If you add them and include the Game ID number, they can't come back unless they buy a new copy of the game. Note, there is a different game ID number for FC2 and DCS:BS. Any more help needed just ask. Example file local bantables = { [1] = { comment = "Banned by Crunch 05/29/10 05:58:40", active = true, ucid = "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx", ipaddrs = "111.111.111.111", names = "name1" }, [2] = { comment = "Intentional TK : 08/24/10", active = true, ucid = "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx", ipaddrs = "222.222.222.222", names = "name2" } } return { bantables }

  21. ^^ some of you guys are doing it all wrong. The ER should be fired well before your opponent fires his missile. That's how its meant to played. Bob.. if he goes low and turns, then you have all the cards. He's finished if you don't make a mistake. And actives can be trashed very easily IF you give yourself the range and maintain sufficient altitude for manouvering... and that's why you fire the ER early. To give you the range. I find the biggest fault with pilots is thinking too much in a level plane and flying accordingly. The flankers tactics is meant to use the vertical aswell.

  28. +1  While many of us like to utilize "real world" tactics and procedures in our sims, it's still just a game, and driving people away with an elitist attitude most certainly is not the best for the future of ED or simming in general.

  29. I have to laugh when folks compare sims to real life .....or themselves or thier squad to a military unit. Comparing yourself or your results to the "airforce" , well , is beyond ridiculous and insulting intellectually to anything standing on two feet. It just reinforces the belief of many that quite a few folks take themselves way to seriously.......Time for folks to get out of moms basement and get some fresh air....

  30. We (The War Hawks) are happy to help anybody that feels they can benefit from asking for help. War Hawk or not. I have personally helped 3 people I did not know that could not keep the chopper airborne (rotor collision, engine torque, transmission, mostly due to rough handling and fighting the stick) due to trim problems. After 2 hours they could take off, fly straight, and execute simple turns with some clarity and purpose. Did I turn them into elite pilots? Of course not, but they were better off and less frustrated afterward. Some people just need a foundation to build off of. I never claimed to be an Elite pilot. I learn new things all the time from a variety of sources. What I am claiming is I don't require a pre qualifying level of competence before I feel like its worth my time to offer any assistance and I don't feel like any assistance or advice I offer is worthless. I have been exposed to aviation for years (I work for the largest (commercial) aircraft maintenance base in the world, get to see F16's take off everyday, have seen the stealth bomber do touch and goes (we are super close to the runway), have seen AWACS do fly bys, have gotten to go into a Russian Antonov An-124, and I will be one of the early people to see the 787)and flown a variety of flight sims, but I have never appreciated aviation until DCS. So it's very important to me that people have a good time playing it instead of feeling like it's an exercise in frustration (like say from breaking the chopper due to fighting your trim). I want to serve the hobby not just my squad. If you just want to learn and have fun and help others give us a try. WH_QuickSilver http://war-hawks.net/
