  1. I have no idea what the first post is about, but the "mod" on the youtube video is made by me. It is a little project I have been working on a bit for a while now (rendering a custom cockpit). Most of the actual hornet cockpit functionality is missing, wrong or incomplete including most of the mfd pages, almost all of the switches/knobs do nothing, radar, rwr, navigation etc. do not work and so on. The cockpit is rendered and handled using a D3D hook, basically the original cockpit is hidden and another model is drawn instead. All the switch actions and mfd/hud rendering is done in the lua exports script. It doesn't use anything from Black Shark so that is why the behaviour probably is a bit different in many places. The base cockpit model is made by another guy, it is intended for ArmA 2 which is why the detail level isn't on the typical flight sim level (also my renderer doesn't at least yet handle normal- or specular maps and the FC2 lighting is not very suitable for it), though I have added some more detail in the side panels and some other switches/buttons. I dont know if it ever will be in any kind of "complete" state, it depends on how much free time I have and how long I have interest to keep working on it. What is possible is also severely limited by what is offered by the exports interface so many systems are very difficult to get to function at all.

  3. I made a small "mod" for FC2 with which you can display the A-10 Maverick TV view and the Su-25T Shkval TV view in a UI "overlay", external window or network stream. This can make it much easier to use the sights as you can put the image on a larger, static overlay or in a window on another monitor. It has some limitations, for example it does not know what plane you are flying so only one visual overlay type is supported which is used for both the Maverick and Shkval. Also, the RTT surfaces rendered by the game do not contain the overlayed data in them, such as the maverick crosshair and the Shvkal horizon etc. displays. You can only have a static crosshair over the scenery using an overlay image (default one looks similar to the maverick crosshair). With the network stream the image can also be displayed on another computer, though the stream (currently) does not work very well, or, I haven't been able to find a good enough player for Motion-JPEG streams. Firefox works pretty well but it does not scale the image, mplayer works but always ends up doing some kind of buffering which causes latency in the image... Download here: http://www.kegetys.net/dl.php/AIESTV10.zip Read the readme for install/use instructions. (Basically just extract to FC2 install dir, then whenever the Maverick/Shkval TV is active it should work. Edit the cfg to position it etc.)

  4. I do not recommend it watching it in full screen, you better use the expand button. Youtube ruined this video -.- You can also download the movie here: Download Link: http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=28&file=1178〈=en Tip: Burn it on a dvd and watch it on your TV :) Enjoy :)

  5. Rename the file from .zip to .miz then just browse to it from within Blackshark's folder/file browser for loading the mission. Nothing needs installing per se. The (physical) file format of a .miz and .zip file are the same, and web servers left on default configurations may mixup (or their administrators may mixup) the extension of the file.

  6. My latest work: Still ways to go to perfect the finish techniques. The varnish distribution is not homogeneous. Next model will be Mig-29.

  7. I'm one of the strongest advocates for dynamic campaigns, to me the element of novelty in each mission and the uncertainty of what is going to happen are very important factors in simulating the fast-paced decision making processes of a military aviator's job. Personally I even prefer separate single missions to linear campaigns, since the only real difference is the fact that you need groundhog day your way through the missions to get to the next one in a campaign. Single missions can have a similiar level of story to them so it's not that much of an issue for me. With that said, I was very positively surprised by just how well the back and forth flowing BS campaign pulled me in. The simple fact that you can win or lose a mission - and thus progress forwards or backwards - makes a world of difference. There's an element of randomness in the missions as well, which helps somewhat. Reading about the campaign engine before BS release didn't have me excited, but in reality the campaign is surprisingly entertaining. It's not as good as a good dynamic campaign, but if Warthog has a comparably well crafted campaign there's a good chance you'll be well entertained. Now if the campaign only worked in multiplayer mode... I've seen many dynamic campaign projects for different games rise and fall, some with better success than others. I've flown a lot of them and analysed them, with many different simulators, I've even tried to assist in some project by offering my (practically infinite) wisdom (I can't code worth ####). I've also followed a number of simulator projects over the couple of decades of simming "hobby" and especially thanks to my dynamic campaign fetish it has been somewhat frustrating at times. I believe that probably the best way to create a dynamic campaign would be to start an open source project with a liberal license so that any aspiring simulator project could adopt the technology, make sure their internals are compatible and perhaps contribute code for the project. I've noticed that many if not most companies like Eagle Dynamics are mostly interested in creating the planes, flight models and weapon / equipment modeling. For Eagle that's certainly understandable, because of their business with real world air forces, they probably aren't very interested in intricate campaign systems. There are a number of individuals around the world who have already created more or less functional dynamic campaigns. Usually they even share their work for free, but since the code isn't available (I haven't checked, but I don't know if any DC project has released the code?) the pace and continuation of the projects is entirely up to them - and how could you even ask for much from people who are doing the work for free in their spare time? Basically I think a dynamic campaign engine might be a challenge to commercialize. It takes quite a bit of work to create one and the audience is fairly small. There are different ways of approaching the problem and I've seen some pretty impressive stuff emerging from fairly simple campaign engines, but getting to a level where you get truly immersive missions in a sensible strategic context automatically will take time and effort. ED seem to be improving the mission editor with every release and I guess that might one day lead to a Dynamic Campaign System in DCS. ED is also big enough to make a DC themselves, but I doubt they would mind if they got a lot of the effort for free from an open source community. For smaller teams a freely available campaign could be a gift from the gods. Another interesting task for such co-operation would be standizing or creating suitable middleware to make sure that all exotic hardware (the world is full of interesting gizmos that usually only work with Flight Simulator but would be fun to have in for example DCS as well) works in every sim that supports it. The project could start with some funding and steering from ED and other interested sim developers or it could be just one guy who starts typing code and uploads it to Google Code or Github or something similar. It's probably best for everyone that I'm not the code guy, but I'll certainly do what I can to help in the design and other stuff. Hm. Could be quite interesting actually, what do you guys think?

  9. Doubt it's using the Ka-50 pit as a base... I don't think it works like that. Looks to me more like he wrote his own DLL, based on the MFDs.

  10. This is totally in the realm of possibility, the code is there for it, justi need to use the ka-50 pit code as a base. I just wonder if he actually has radar, air to air, and ccrp working. Was something I could never figure out.

  14. You actually can ask about author ( i think ) Kegetys http://forums.eagle.ru/member.php?u=65826 IMHO it's video editing . but some part of what you see in video can be done using FC2 you need : 3D modeling skills , Lua skills , understanding of internal avionics structure and file structure . for example: clickable cockpit easily , indication easily (including collimated HUD)( but i think static indication only , or very limited dynamic )

  15. Can someone explain what this link has to do with this mod? I can't read it and it does not seem to have anything to do with an F/A-18. And how did it become the first post in this thread?

  16. Sounds like you did things the smart way ;) As for entering a threat territory where you think MANPADS or other IR missiles will be used again you, forget about spotting them - you have a job to do, ie. kill your targets, have your flares out pre-emptively at some reasonable interval. So ... Ingress: Set your flarespammer to full power Find targets Kill Targets Egress: Keep flarespammer going Run like a little girl Do NOT come back for a re-attack if flares are low or out. Hopefuly you survived.

  21. Trying to argument with people who favor DRM is like trying to argue with a heroin addict that he shouldnt take his next fix. DRM solves nothing. It only shows you care more about the pirates then your legit customers. Im in the software business, all i can say is DRM that rely on device drivers is effectivly rootkits which equals that ED is involved in whats effectivly hacking of customers computers. If it wasnt for no-clue politicians who dont know anything about the digital era we would have some proper laws that protected customers rights when they bought software and all companies who used these kind of DRM schemes would be off to jail.
