  1. Here is a weird thought, instead of some unrealistic gimmicks, you could also try practising, it actually works. ;)

  2. So I tried to triangulate the position of several different SAM positions using the RWR and I found that it was pretty accurate. You could probably do it several ways, but the method I used was: 1. When I first get painted by radar, fly so it lines up with a tick on the RWR. Usually I'd beam it or put it 135 degrees back (45 degrees back from beam). Also I guess you could fly straight away. It doesn't matter as long as the letter/number in the RWR symbol lines up exactly with a tick on RWR (don't fly right at it and get shot down). 2. Then I just find the same tick around the HSI and note the bearing, while at the same time hitting the "Mk" (create overhead mark point) button on the UFC. (lets call this Mark A) 3. On the CDU, I then created an new offset from that markpoint about 100 miles in the direction of the SAM (from the HSI). This will be called MSN0xx. (for this example lets call it MSN006) 4. Next, I flew around the SAM until I got painted from a different angle, and again noted the exact bearing by comparing the RWR to the HSI, and I created a markpoint at that spot. (Mark B) 5. Created another offset from the second markpoint in the second direction for about 100 miles. (MSN007) 6. Built a flightplan using the following waypoints: A, MSN006, B, MSN007. 7. There should be lines connecting all your waypoints on the TAD now. In the center the two big lines should cross. This is where the SAM is. 8. Placed a markpoint where the lines crossed on TAD (TMS right short, Mark C). 9. Added Mark C to flightplan and slewed TGP to steerpoint (or set Mark C as SPI and slave all to SPI). 10. Find SAM (usually it was pretty darn close to Mark C). So I dunno if this is helpful to anyone, or if anyone has a better (faster) way to implement this idea. Also, I was curious if anyone knows if this is ever done IRL? (maybe in a different aircraft with a better RWR and a computer thats set up for it?) Anyway, I found this to be pretty useful for finding SAMs if you don't have any SEAD to call in and you can't get the SAM position from your wingman's superhuman vision.

  3. This question came up on my mind after reviewing some videos of Su-25 and Mi-24 actions yesterday and having so much time spent on flying Eagle Dynamics simulators. Don't you agree that the Russian and other air forces using soviet era equipment and tactics tend to depend on the use of unguided aerial rocket projectiles on a much larger scale than their NATO counterparts ? Almost every video out there of Russian aircraft in action shows them firing a wide range of unguided rockets types, while the western doctrine is to use them only in army aviation and even then on a very limited scale as an area denial weapon. Is this only a question of tactical doctrine or economy and training comes into play as well (I assume this is among the cheapest types of aerial weapon and requires less training to use it to some effect) ? My impression is that unguided rockets simply lack the power and precision to be an effective weapon and that is the main reason why they are not in widespread use with NATO air forces which have the option of using guided weapons in comparison with eastern air forces which don't have such luxury due to economical constrains.

  4. When setting the SPI with the TDC, keep in mind that the range is 13nm - any further and you will not be able to designate. Edit: Headshot :P

  5. When Setting the SPI with the TDC on the HUD, the Max range is 13miles, if you go over the 13miles limit, there is a little X on the TDC box indicating that the SPI cannot be set. Because you are so high in this mission you will only be able to set the SPI on the lower half of the HUD (When the X is removed from the TDC indicator) Nate

  6. После того как цель запомнил , ВЫКЛЮЧИ ШКВАЛ , выбери цель (тип) ,выход, затем включи шквал , (АДВ включается по желанию ) Мне больше нравится способ с ОТ , цели можно "перщелкивать" .

  7. Boris. I run at 2560x1600 resolution with 4x multisampling (in game) and 2x transparency supersampling (forced in control panel) as well as using custom distance settings. That's why I run SLI. I did run with one GTX 580 but things slowed down too much at this high resolution. Up to 1920x1200 you should be find with one GTX 580. Good luck

  8. When you turn down all sounds on DCS A-10c, tune into BBC Sports radio and listen to the Test Match (England V Inda) while your second monitor has the live feed TV and you have just bombed the c**p out of Batumi and shouted out LBW by mistake.
