I'm not ranting, just curious. In previous betas the round impacts didn't have nearly the same negative affect on fps. What changes that suddenly makes the impacts so labor intensive for our computers?

There is also this Sticky in the Input Controller sub forum: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61018 My Warthog went bonkers after I tried to fix the trim button issue. It somehow turned my throttles into rudder inputs(!) among many other problems.

How to controll the aircraft when the rudder surface if blow off?
SonofEil replied to Kevlon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
One word: Practice. (I'll sometimes go out and deliberately get shot up just for a flying/landing challenge. It's good, fun experience and a great way to learn the capabilities and limitations of the aircraft.) -
Isnt zooming on the HUD kind of cheating?
SonofEil replied to Avatar72's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Wow! That's a brilliant way to configure labels! I've always kept them off because there's too much info when it's a dense enemy formation, hindering my ability to actually see the enemy. I might start experimenting with labels now. (btw, I still think labels=cheating, zoom=1/2 cheating) :-) -
Yeah, I thought about that after I'd posted. The camera speed and screen refresh are out of phase. I'd never really seen it look like that though, it usually manifests in bad flicker or moving horizontal bars, not shimmering waves of psycho color!

What are their MFCD's doing? It looks psychedelic!

They weren't "real" shoot-able guns. The joke was on the soldiers though. The guns couldn't go through customs!! The market was on base, near the entrance. I don't think they allow it at all now. Almost everything was chinese crap anyway, pirated dvd's, knock-off watches, etc. I'm glad I found it! It was lost for the last six years, in a box in my mom's barn in Texas. I found it while helping her pack up for a move. Unfortunately, due to humidity and large temperature swings, the film came out foggy. Also, one of the film stocks is no longer supported, so it was processed in the nick of time! Kodak stops supporting K40 film next month! Thanks for the compliments!

Super 8mm film from Afghanistan in '04. A lot of A-10A maintenance and a sortie launch at the end, among other things. If you have 12 minutes, please have a look: 2aK8-BHgDsY&feature (A couple of the guys in the film ended up working on the development team for the C mod.) From the description: Super 8mm footage from Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. There is sound (music) at 7:30 and a short video clip after the music stops, if you can watch that far. The film is pretty fogged from six years of improper storage prior to processing and transfer. Oops. Unedited footage at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_ySP5... but there's really not much more to see. I just rearranged it and cut out the indecipherable parts.

That was the problem! I was clicking the big display triangle, not the little display triangle. I was scaled to 7.5%, now 0% and problem solved! Thanks a million! (One would think that ATI support would have been more helpful, instead of "Oh, sorry, our drivers are unstable, you should reinstall last years driver!) Agian, Thank you!!

Hmm. I just double-checked I don't have an u/o scan option, or a GPU scaling option in my Catalyst Control Center. I right-click my desktop and open CCC, then Advanced > Desktop&Displays > Desktop Properties, but my only options are Desktop Area (properly set at 1080p), Color Quality (High 32-bit), Refresh Rate (60Hz), and Rotation (Landscape). Am I looking in the right place?

I would actually have black buildings from time to time with my old drivers. My problem is that I just updated to 10.11 and it's reduced my usable screen area by a couple of inches. I now have black bars around the screen, sort of like letterbox, but on all four sides. All of my display setting are still properly set, so I don't know why this is. I contacted AMD and they said to revert back to an older driver, specifically 10.5, because "it's the most stable." "Customers have been having a lot of problems with 10.11" is what they told me. Has anyone else had the reduced screen area problem? Anyone know of any fixes besides driver rollback? win7-64 i975@3.33 8GBRAM ATI4850

I'm losing nose gears like crazy too. I keep as much weight off as i can as the airspeed picks up, nws off at 50-60, couple seconds later...BANG!! Like an invisible speed bump. Either I lose nose gear and crash, or it breaks and won't retract. It's happened at multiple airports on the eastern map, haven't tried Nellis yet. It's bugged and won't open for me now. But at least the canopy switch works...

Ummm. I've been looking for a good thread where I can ask this basic question: Are there any Mission Editor tutorials that you guys could link me with? After two years of DCS:BS, I still can't perform even the simplest tasks in ME, and I'd like to utilize it more now that A-10 is out. I've read the BS manual and spent hours tinkering around in BS editor...and I've been able to accomplish absolutely nothing. So, yeah, how do you even begin to learn that thing?
-
I don't know if there will be added training missions or not. My hope is that Wags does a giant series of Producer's Notes on youtube again. They were indispensable on BS for covering what the training missions didn't. As for the autopilot specifically...there isn't one. To put it simply, the A10 just has an attitude/altitude hold, altitude/heading hold, and heading hold. They all work with a simple on/off button. There's no waypoint following, no altitude or heading select, no course intercept. The A10 only has an "autopilot" in the most primitive sense of the word, and it couldn't be simpler to use!

It's not really a detail, but something to do to enjoy many of the details. Take off on a sunset/dusk flight and play Wagner's Vorspiel from Das Rheingold. Loud. My eyes were wet.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
SonofEil replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm going to ask for something I'll never receive, especially from a series named Digital Combat Simulator! The NASA X-29! What a beauty! I don't actually spend a lot of time shooting sh1t in DCS:BS. It's fun for a while, and certainly challenging, but shooters aren't really my thing. The most amazing thing to me is the flight model. ED has accomplished unmatched realism in both the flight profile and systems integration. I spend hours and hours "exploring" the aircraft. Soooooo, I think it would be nice to actually have a study sim dedicated to a R&D aircraft, especially one as radical as the X-29. The missions could be set up like the actual historical research missions, exploring the flight envelope and gathering data, with tangible objectives and goals. Anyway, wishful thinking on my part! :) -
Aircraft FOR I believe it is nearly universal that the Frame of Reference for every aircraft is from the tail looking forward, and you count your engines left to right. In nearly every real-world aircraft that I've flown or worked on, including the A-10, according to procedure, you start the most left (#1) engine first. I don't know about the F-15 as I have no experience with it, but I certainly wouldn't use youtube as an authority. The only other thing I noticed that might be incorrect about the startup video has to do with the generators. If I remember correctly, and I might not, you don't switch the generators on until after the engines are idling. They sometimes don't come online if the engines are started with the generators enabled and you must then recycle the switch. If memory serves, that is. :)

And, thank you!

Seriously, we still arguing with this guy? We can talk cpu vs. gpu, blade vs. tables, and so forth 'til the sun sets. His mind is, and has been, already made up. Let's post some tutorial links, show him the noob start page... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=39015 ...and call this one a wash. Really, GTA? Everyone here knows that BS's pedigree is Mario Cart. Come back when you have real, specific questions. It's been a hoot. Goodnight!

No way! I don't believe it! Black Shark has just been trumped by Grand Theft Auto! GTA used in the same sentence with "sim", boy I really never thought I'd see the day. Ok ok, I'm going to try to take this seriously now. Ummm. Ok, I'm ready: Starting out with BS I had many of the same problems you've described. I can't stress enough that you need to read all of the documentation. I know it's a big pdf, but just about everything in there is important. And to be honest, I still had plenty of trouble with the systems after reading the entire book. Sooooo, head to youtube and watch all of the producer's notes by Wagmatt. After that, things will start coming together and you'll be able to fly this amazing bird. If you've read some of the book and seen a couple of the videos, it's not enough. Read/watch all of it. They call it a "study" sim for a very specific reason! I'm going to go take a cold shower now. Seriously, GTASA. I really never thought....man, I feel dizzy.

No worries!

As a pilot (as I'm sure many of you are), with time in helos big and small, I have to say this: Though DCS:BS may have a few shorcomings, the flight dynamics are not on that list. The flight fidelity of this sim is without equal in the PC world. I actually don't go around shooting too many things in this sim. I plan routes and explore the KA-50's flight envelope under varying conditions, and I'm constantly surprised at the level of realism. Is there a lot to learn? Of course! Are the flight controls and avionics confusing? Sometimes. (I mean, it's Russian! :smilewink: ) But blame Kamov. ED gave you an arcade mode if you don't want to learn to fly the thing. As for ease of use, regarding UI; Again, I've had a much easier time with Black Shark than with most other sims. I have never even ventured into BS's config files, and I think that's saying something! As for... Thanks for attributing one person's comment to the entire community. :no_sad: Everyone else has been pleading for a track file and asking for more details so as to help him. ChromeWasp continues to claim what other sims can and can't do and making baseless, generalized accusations. It sounds like a rant to me, born of frustration due to lack of experience with the system.

Thanks for the memory jolt, Wags. I was trying to remember the acronyms as it's been a number of years since I worked on them. It was interesting watching the SAS (Stability Augmentation) ground checks during start-up. The rudder snapped a couple degrees right, then center. Elevator snapped up a couple of degrees, then center. I was an engine guy on the A-10 and the one thing I know for certain is this: Gun exhaust gunks up engines!

Thanks for the good replies everyone. Outlaw 24, that was exactly what I was looking for. It was very helpful, thank you! To answer everyone's questions. I have new drivers, new SST software, etc. I think my SST software was conflicting with the buttons I was trying to assign in-game. Once I deleted SST and profiles, I could assign HOTAS buttons by pressing them in the BS options menu. Not a fan of SST, personally, so it is now gone. I know it could be useful, but I frankly don't have the time or desire to learn my joystick's software intricacies. Does anyone else have the sound problems I've described? It's not that big of a deal, just slightly annoying. Again, thanks for the help everyone! Oh, I'm also attaching a one page excel file I made of the cockpit annunciator panels. I have it printed out and in front of me so that I can actually reference what is lighting up! Free use for everyone, do with it what you will. In fact, you even have my permission to profit from it if you are so clever! BS_Annunciators.rar
