Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
schkorpio replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'd love to fly one of these, in all seriousness :) I imagine it would handle somewhere between a blackshark and an A10c :) -
Yeah that gamepad will work reasonably well. For axis curvature, go to into Options > Controls > Then from the top left drop down box select A-10C sim, and then from the top middle drop down box select Axis. Then you'll the options list will be narrowed down to only the Axis commands. So map your right thumbstick to the flight stick pitch/bank(roll) controls. And then for each of these click on the Axis tune button down the button, it will bring up a new window where you use a slider to adjust the curvature. What you are aiming for is to make the initual movement less sensitive. But you'll probably have to test it in game as well. Then make your left thumbstick rudder control - left and right. But i recommend leaving the UP/DOWN on the left thumbstick empty as you'll bump them accidentally when using the rudders. One your game pad you should have enough buttons to put all of your important controls on. and even use the d-pad to look around the cockpit. , as well as using modifer key like ALT or CTRL to allow it to be used to slew your TPG and MAV.

If the logitech Gamepad has an analog axis it will be much better than a keyboard or any form of digital input. You want to be able to apply the stick slowly (which is onyl possible with an analog input) - kind like if you were driving a heavy bus or truck where you would slowly turn the steering wheel. I used to play with an xbox360 controller before I upgraded to the warthog (highley recommended if you get into the game). But even playing with the xbox360 controller the right analog stick allowed me to make much more controlled inputs and turn without getting beeping. Had to set my axis curvature to about 35~ thought, otherwise it was way too sensitive. I'd say it will be a similar experience with the logitech gamepad. but it will make a world of difference, and after a few weeks once you get used to it you can even do decent strafing runs with the gau-8 :)

Just put some red or orange celephane over your eyes :P TBH i would love to use the GAU-8 on some Holden / Ford utes, and their white frame'd sunglassed occupants.

One of the hardest things for me to learn is how to actually fly realistically - I can blow things up no problems, but I'd love to be taught (through an in-game hands on way) to be able to fly the way real military pilots fly. What specific manouevers they would use in particular situations. Yeah sure i can sift through youtube or whatever but there is no SOP or quality control. and of course it isn't hands on. I'd love to have a mission where you start in the sky, follow a wingman in a dry run, a couple of times while he explains the procedure, and then end with a live fire exercise. Things like, attacking certain types of units with particular weapons, acrobatics, avoiding missiles and or AAA fire that kind of thing

I find that with the nature of flying reasonably low in A-10C and especially in the Ka-50 you see a lot of ground. Having higher resolution for textures that are near you would be awesome. Sometimes it feels like you are hover over green/brown soup :) But from a practical view it would be a lot easier to determine height and speed visually too.

perfect thank you, now to put into practice :)

Hey guys, I'm trying to do instant action mission medium - russian winter. I find the easy missions well easy now :) But i'm stuck with the medium difficulty one. I simply don't have enough maverick's to kill of the shilka's and SAMs. So I'm wondering is there a way to destroy them with the GAU - or an even better way? at waypoint #2 there are some trucks and infantry and two shilka's quite close together. I can usually destroy one with the GAU, but the other one will then rip me to shreds - i've even tried flying in very very low from the ocean. Is there a weakness i can exploit in the shilka or any better way to approach the situation? I want to save my mavericks for the SAM's that are further into the mission. I don't want to use my wingman, I like to do things myself unless absolutely necessary :)

would love to fly an F-35 or any other vtol jet, but the F-35 seems like the most fun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockhee...5_Lightning_II -
Will we ever see another hardcore jet sim from ED?

ok answered my question :P yes using Lwin key as the modifier to the 1st and 2nd stage triggers as well as the weapons release will infact allow you aim with the Lwin+ num5 keys and shoot :) Now i'll just configure xpadder to toggle the Lwin+num5 instead of holding it down.
-
Howdy, I've discovered the brilliant LWin+ numpad keys to chagne the views around the cockpit. I have a trackIR but its still useful, especially LWin+ Num 5 for looking straight down the HUD view to get a nice accurate aim going. But when using this view it won't let me fire any of the weapons - I'm guessing because I'm holding too many keys or something like that? Or maybe the game is reading the Lwin+num5 as a modifier for the trigger on my hotas? Can anyone think of a way around this? Cause it would be fantastic to be able to have for example the pinky leaver on the warthog hotas to toggle between normal trackir and direct hud view. So that way I wouldnt have to fiddle with zooming in and keeping my head steady etc, then zooming back out etc - it would be a simple 1 button press.:joystick: .. I just realised that it may work if I set the fire button to Lwin + Num 5 + hotas trigger. I'm at work for the next 8 hrs though!

thx :)

Hey guys, got my saitek combat rudders today - very nice :) Just wanted to check how the wheel brake on the A-10 is meant to work, because by default its put the pedals as FULL BRAKE, unless i push the pedal down. Is this the normal way it works in the hawg? or should i invert it so that you push the pedals down to apply brakes - like in a car.
-
The way i see it is, i'm creating jobs for mechanics and manufacturers..... After watching the replay it looks like my left land gear didn't deploy - I took a fair bit of machine gun fire from a couple of tanks. this game is so much fun :)
-
received my TM warthog today -it's amazing :joystick: it feels nearly as good an expensive cars steering wheel. although my landings still need some work
-
I'm still waiting on my TM warthog and saitek combat pedals to arrive - and I've been playing with an xbox360 controller - it actually works OK once you adjust the axis curve to be less sensitive. I would recommend you at least get one of those. There still aren't quite enough buttons but you can get by with modifiers. It is miles less frustrating than using a keyboard :) (although i guess for around the same price you can get a cheap joystick stick) But ultimately I think a desktop rig (or laptop) that can achieve a smooth frame rate - 60FPS or higher is really nice :) A trackIR and an accurate joystick is the way to go.

What to do when you complete a mission in a campaign
schkorpio replied to Turtle47's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
yeah sometimes i miss the text prompt saying to RTB or whatever too, and when I land i'm not sure if all is complete. what we need is a big banner and George Dubya to tell us that we've finished the mission like this lol : edit: I guess you get a debrief after you exit though :) -
thx got it to work through a vpn instead :) wanted a copy for my friend

Buttkicker Gamer 2 - Whats your settings???
schkorpio replied to Deigs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi guys, I've just recieved my BK gamer v2 and well... it works too well lol - and its going to annoy my neighbouring apartments. Can anyone recommoned a way to isolate the sound / vibration only to the seat of my chair, or somehow to my body only? i put the PC sound and intensity on max - i test fired the GAU-8 for 1 second and wow, i can see why its called a butt-kicker. It its like riding a wild horse when you fire the GAU-8 - It would make for a cheap washing machine if you attached it to a metal box :) My problem i think is that because it is attached to the metal rod on underneath the seat of my office chair, it vibrates the entire chair so much that the chair acts like a huge subwoofer -i can even hear a-10 "altitude" "altitude" warning voice through my chair. I mainly got this because I thought it would be quiet like a game controller rumble. So would really appreciate if anyone can share their clever ideas on isolating the vibs to my seat :) otherwise it will be on ebay... :( -
I've just bought a buttkicker gamer v2 - I had no idea it would so crazy loud as it vibrates my chair so much the chair turns into a giant subwoofer and I imagine it would annoy the neighbouring apartments. I will probably ebay it unless I can find a way to isolate the vibration just to the seat of the chair. Is the ivibe TFS3 fairly quiet? more like a traditional game controller rumble?
