finally a trailer :P

:megalol: lol Oh i keep forgetting to ask everytime I visit this thread I get distracted: Is the UH-1H chopper going to be easier to fly than the Ka-50? I just can't fly that thing for more than 2 minutes without killing myself. Especially if I'm doing anything other than flying fowards lol.

hmmm i wonder if that depth blur is photoshopped or will we get some fancy graphical effects in DCS 1.2.4?

One week with DCS Warthog, TM HOTAS and TrackIR5
schkorpio replied to dr_After's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I've heard (I think it might have been from a CES interview) that the accelerometer and gyro aren't good enough for proper 6DOF movment, as it will fairly quickly forget where it's currently location is. So a TrackIR might still be needed for moving about rather than just looking about. -

I can totally understand not changing sticks if you are used to one. But I'll second that the TM Warthog is a great stick, it is a very solid and quality feeling piece of hardware :) I used to have a starndard x52, and that was nice, but the Warthog is another level - although the price certainly is another level too :) -
very nice, considering that the leap motion is so cheap i'd have no issues in getting it to go along with the Oculus Rift. I'd totally get both devices if they were supported in DCS I can't belive Virtual Reality is becoming a Reality :)

win7 and warthog install question
schkorpio replied to dooom's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Plug it in and see how you go, no harm done if it comes up as an unknown device. Otherwise install the drivers and you are good to go. TARGET is not needed unless you want to tweak things and scripts macro's etc edit: DCS by default maps all of the buttons to the warthog correctly, so no need to do any setup there. (except for the trim hat on the stick, thats mapped to views by default unless you have a trackir) -
I really love the idea of the oculus rift, and even if it doesnt have a Z axis we can use our trackIR's for that at the same time i'm guessing. but one big problem for me would be is that I can't see my keyboard and mouse! Unless they implement a camera like an xbox kinect type thingy so that I can see my virtual hands and somehow see my keyboard then its going to be very hard to do anything other than use the HOTAS. either that or somehow sync it up with a standard monitor so that the camera can detect hand motion and turn a normal monitor into a virtual touchscreen.

One week with DCS Warthog, TM HOTAS and TrackIR5

tbh honest I havent found that manual to be useful, despite its giant size it doesn't explain things enough for my liking - mostly it tells me to do things but without telling me why I'm doing it, I guess the the book would be super huge then. But i also find this a little of "why am i doing it this way" lacking in the training missions. I've found the user made videos are MUCH more informative. Yes TrackIR is a must - infact once you get used to it you'll try to turn your head when you watch videos haha -
just wondering if any planes have automatic trim? seems like even the a-10's simple auto pilot you could have it auto trim so that the TVV stays at the angle you have set with your joystick.

How do I improve TrackIR 5 tracking when using a track clip?
schkorpio replied to Ranma13's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
ahhhh ! thank you!:D I was wondering why this was happening but was too lazy to look it up, because I would forget about it everytime until i had my stick and game ready to fly -
wonderful info here thank you everyone :)

thanks Flim, i just ordered the obutto ozone and saw this thread and nearly had a heart attack! glad it all works.

Cool, thanks Tom. I will save up for one in that case :) btw, that cockpit is coming along very nicely :)

The answer to this will probably be "just practice" but I'm hoping there are some little tricks that might make aiming the GAU-8 a little easier. For example one thing I've found when turning the plan, I've noticed that the maxium G's you can pull in a turn is between about 0.8-1.2% of your airspeed, the faster you go the higher the %. so if your air speed is 200 your turning G's can get up to about 2.5 before you get the warning beeps. Is there any kind of simple indicator similar to that for aiming the GAU? thanks :D

hey guys, can anyone provide any info on how loud this TFS3 is? I bought a buttkicker gamer v2, but it is way too loud, so i can't use it :( (i know its got adjustable settings the the BK is either too soft to feel the subtle effects, or its shaking the entire apartment complex when I fire the GAU-8, don't get me wrong, its awesome, and if I lived alone it would be fine.) I'm looking for something that actually works with headphones - and is quiet enough not to disturb someone in the next room let alone next apartment. I'd post on the TFS3 forums, but it looks dead there lol

ahh cool, thx :)

I thought the pinky paddle on the stick was meant to assigned to fire the laser designator manually? (I could be making that up, but I thought I read it somewhere). I just set my guided bombs to auto fire the laser though. I've used the pinky switch to toggle WinL (left windows key) + Numpad 5 - this puts you into the zoomed hud view, which makes using the GAU8 pretty easy as you don't have to worry about trying to keep your head really still.

www.ozpc.com.au are giving away free copies of DCS: A-10C (and of many other games) with any system purchase. if you refer a friend you get a copy for yourself too :) edit: there is a pretty cool system builder too (the customise button in the left menu)

can you equip a tgp on both wings? :P I'm guessing even if you can it will only give you the video feed from one.

It's got nothing to do with being a hardcore or casual pilot. It's about feeling like you are in cockpit - and with a trackIR + touchscreen it nearly feels like you are touching the actual switches. And it's much cheaper and easier than building full cockpit - although not nearly as impressive. Put your e-penis back in your pants :P
-
Awesome! Cause I don't think I could fly without a clickable cockpit, I don't want to learn all of the seemingly irrelevant key presses, some of which resemble finger yoga :P Nothing beats a touch screen when using this sim - well actually there is one thing, and that is is DCS recognised hand gestures on the touch screen, so that you could flick switches up or down depending on which way you move your finger, as well was rotating switches by doing a pinch style gesture.

Ok next question for 10 more points: Sometimes when I'm using my the scratchpad (if thats what its called) the numbers just under the hud next to the steering point rocker. Sometimes they do not seem to work. E.g. If I'm trying to assign the Laser time in a bomb profile, or setting the ripple amount it won't take the numbers i'm pressing. I'm typing the numbers and then pressing one of the OSB's on the left MFCD, but it doesnt work. Usually at the start of a mission it does work though, so I think I'm somehow getting it into a different mode or something like that

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
schkorpio replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
this would be pretty sweet to fly too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_Su-34 actually any aircraft/chopper that has two seats to do some co-op play -
i would like the pilot too, although being invisible could have its advantages :P
