  1. I rated the WH lowest because of the center "bump." It messes up a hover. I will leave it at that until release. Everyone can make their own judgment then.
  2. Hey Arklight, I have full time access to a retired military UH-1H. It is used as a tool to teach A&P mechanics. It is in rough shape, however most of the systems function. I had two of my friends get into the Huey. They were 6'1 and 6'2. I took a photo them and we talked it over. They were both taller than the Sim's Huey pilots. Another friend who was 5'4 walked by and we got him to climb in. We all agreed he was shorter than the DCS pilots. We guess the Sim pilots to be around 5'6-5'8. I did take one photo I was going to post, but the volunteers were flipping each other off during the photo.
  3. Not yet, I remember a post a long time ago that it was a feature they wanted to do. Nothing more than that has come of it.
  4. I checked with some volunteers, if you consider the pilots to be about 5'6'. They are the correct size.

  6. Link the photo you think is out of scale. I can test it now.
  7. Well, now it's delayed..:helpsmilie: :chair: Don't hurt me, I'm kidding.
  8. I will not tell you what to use. I never stated that the warthog was unplayable. It is very accurate. Just not my 1st choice with the controls I have at my disposal. And pii, I have flown it.
  9. Sometimes expensive isn't always better. I would say any joystick with an extension is what you want for your best control. Heavy curves will be required for flight with a short stick. I have a copy made of this http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=83814. It works very well for DCS Huey. Infact, I would rate it best of what I have tested so far. I have tested, TM Warthog (with and without extension), CH Fighterstick, MSFFB2 stock, PeterP's crazy joystick, and a Logitech 3D pro. I would rate them from best to worst. PeterP's crazy joystick, (Priceless) TM Warthog extended ($400+$40?) & MSFFB2 ($60) tied CH Fighterstick, (100$) Logitech 3D PRO, ($30) TM Warthog stock. (400) I use CH Pro-pedals. You must have pedals or a twist axis to fly the Huey. If you do not have track IR. Buy it. I would rather fly the Huey with the 3D pro and track IR over the PeterP joystick and no track IR. I hope this gives you some clues to what to look for. You want a joystick with a very soft center. You need a rudder axis of some kind. You should really want a Track IR for the experience.
  10. Welcome to the forums. Teamspeak is the voice comm of choice for most virtual flight squadrons. A few use ventrilo. I tend to hang out in my teamspeak after 6 CST. The teamspeak information is in my signature. I wouldn't mind a few flights with a training pilot. If the time works out for you. Good luck with your future training.
  11. I think most people would be surprised to know that the tail rotor is way louder than the main rotor on the ground close up. The higher pitch comes out like a buzzing sound. The lower pitch whoop from the main, I think carries further so is heard from a good distance away. The "buzz" will fade at that distance. During takeoffs and landings, you get a clean chop chop sound as the main grabs air. All of these sound dynamics feel well simulated in the product. 7.1 users will be happy. I wish I had a but kicker.
  12. Flying blackshark. I will enjoy the escort roles that will be coming.
  13. I know that some cockpit sounds are recorded from the real thing. Solenoids, gyros, inverters, ect. I would bet that engine and blade sounds were also recorded. Then remastered and made useable for game sounds. A blade will never make the same chop sound irl. The hueys weight, atmosphere conditions, power settings, and your perspective will change how it sounds. Sounds is a tricky thing to simulate. As a person who works around helicopters, I will tell you that I think the sounds are very good.
  14. Some guy named cowboy! ROLF! Btw, Check you rep comment!
  15. Anything 50cal or bigger will shred a Huey. But it has to hit something vital. Lets take the tail-boom for an example. The tail has mostly air inside. Just a few cables, a drive shaft, and two gearboxes. If you don't hit them. Nothing is going to happen to the Huey. Now, explosive rounds, all bets are off. Enough damage to the tailboom and it will no longer be able to hold back the pressures of the tail rotor. Then you would fold up and crash. Clearly put, if you shoot at a Huey, Expect the round to go clean through to the other side. there's almost nothing that will stop a bullet on the airframe. Anything that would stop a bullet, it was important enough you don't want a bullet in it.
  16. Always request the best, the quality is here. I expect this consumer base the demand nothing less than the best product possible. Please, make your judgements when the beta is out. If the testing has taught me anything, nothing is final. Nothing with never be fixed or changed. Anything is possible.
  17. The track does not replay correctly. But here's a word by word summary. Okay startup complete, now add some collective. ( Huey noses down hard and fast) **** pulls cyclic back! (Huey banks hard right) **** Left cyclic! (YAW) **** pedels! (Huey flies 3 feet off ground accelerating fast straight to the nearest hanger. Shaking like hell all the way!) **** more collective and pulls cyclic back, dancing on the pedels trying to straighten out the patch and climb over the hanger. ( Huey responds by nicely flying over the hanger, only sideways to the direction of travel) Attemps to hover. ( huey decides that hovering is not really its thing, it would rather be a slow turning top. ) Time to land, lowers collective slowly. ( Huey slowly comes down and picks up some forward motion ) Almost touching down I drop the collective to plant the huey into the ground. (Huey responds buy going in reverse and dropping onto the ground. Tail skid hits runway.) I panic! Full toward cyclic! ( Huey drops forward onto skis, sitting at idle ) I check external view, no damage. I check logs, no damage. VICTORY IS MINE!
  18. Not 100% true. The idle cutoff activate a solenoid that allows you to retard the throttle to idle cutoff. It's an electronic switch. But works as you said. The hardware limitations of the general public makes the process hard to simulate without custom hardware. Think of the A10, you have to manually lift the throttle to start/shutdown the engines. This is the ONLY part of the Huey that is not 100%. Within reason, of course.
  19. I'll change the triggers to crash and see of it helps. Right now I am using the "Group Dead" condition. It is not effective for the mission I'm trying to create.
  20. He is using a g940. I am using a MSFFB2. The simFFB is being used by some testers. It is being looked into with great detail. I'm sure FFB users will be happy.
  21. Old ED newsletter. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1635618&postcount=1 I can't find a link to the original copy. But this is a copy of it on the forum.
  22. Hey kato, I would like to add that the 109s on the ground take a lot of damage to destroy. I managed to score two direct hits with HVARs and it left it as stumps. But it would not destroy it. Something I think you should look into. I honesty like the fact that the model doesn't explode after a gun run. I find it more realistic, but it plays hell with triggers set to on destroy. A direct hit with a rocket should destroy it imo.
  23. Make sure it has fuel and Ammo. Make sure its Red vs Blue. ( German is Blue by default) Set its role to CAP. (It had no problems making me pay in the 1st pass.)
  24. I spent my night getting owned in an airbase scramble mission. First looks are great! Three new p51 pilots Vs Four 109s. We were destroyed in the 1st pass. And then on the ground. Over and over. Just like it should be against new pilots. I have to investigate a few bugs with sound effects. Ill try it again tomorrow and let you know if I'm still having issues. Machine-gun SFX never ending. Things like that.
