  1. Not necessarily. I regularly fly high, I know others do it too. Surely your tactics change as the situation dictates, but I prefer the advantages of being high - you can trade quickly altitude for speed, your missiles have more potential energy, you are able to scan a greater volume with radar and you can quickly dash to intercept someone flying low.
  2. That's correct, edited my post to not mislead people.
  3. EDIT: I was wrong, corrected by Ethereal below.
  4. What are the purpose of the surfaces at the top front of the intakes? Control surfaces? To hide the intake? To change intake geometry?
  5. Ah of course. But sometimes wearing headphones is tiring. Thought that Bucic hinted at some kind of workaround to record more than one source at time in Windows with ordinary sound cards in real-time, but now I understood he didn't. /offtopic
  6. Please elaborate. If I set the recording source on TS3 as "What U hear", then my mic sound will feedback into the transmission producing a ringing sound, since I have to enable to hear my own mic to others be able to hear it on this mode. How do I do that without the feedback?
  7. But wouldn't the tone change from tracking to search? Obviously the radar waves are still getting to you, so the enemy appears on your RWR, but when he loses lock the tone will change right? Unless he is on TWS...
  8. Oh interesting :) Stand corrected then.
  9. AFAIK it doesn't gather positional info from the game. BF2, ARMA does that because they are in-game integrated comms. In TS you must assign yourself people to a position around you, so like you put the wingman to your right close, and the Tower front far. But they remain in that position independently from the game.
  10. Haha nice shot!
  11. So those guys at German Autobahns need to be careful eh?
  12. I did some CAP for the Ka-50s on 104th server last two days. The worse threats were russian aircraft, that preyed upon the Sharks with the EOS, hugging the ground to not appear on AWACS and running to their friendly SAMs and ships area when threatened. Once the bandits are in the sharks playground, I had to use full radar mechanization to find the aggressors, paying attention to elevation and PRF, and also flying an optimal altitude for scanning (not too high and not being able to scan the full terrain below, but not too low and having too much drag and low speed - too many times doing a tail chase engagement). (Sidenote - I have seen many fighter pilots coming to the server and not knowing how to employ radar elevation and PRF, and then complaining why nothing appears on radar :)) Once we determined and patrolled their ingress route however, it was easy to defend. Oh and I may be wrong and it needs confirmation, but I think the russian EOS, when locking a Shark up close, triggers the LWR. One Shark pilot reported it being triggered when I flew past him with EOS on VSCAN mode and locked him briefly. He was at near a friendly airbase, no threats around, so.
  13. Thinking hypotetically, ED can make in the future as they made now with DCS / FC2: - Launch BS - Profit - Launch FC2 - Profit - Patch FC2 to be compatible with BS - Patch BS to be compatible with FC2 - Launch A10 - Profit - Patch BS to be compatible with A10 and then: - Patch FC2 to be compatible with A10 OR - Launch FC3 - Profit In the end, money is the blood of an enterprise. We dont know if the money ED earns by selling to us is significant or not compared to their military contracts (i think is not...), but money is money. Even if it justs helps to cover fixed costs. But one thing I can be sure - if we ever want to see that kind of integration and beyond A-10, we must show our support to ED by BUYING the bloody thing. Then we can talk about compatibility and such.
  14. How about you guys getting some good vacations? Downloading... 1h30 remaining. Thanks for those who are seeding.
  15. I don't see any issues on 104th server. I see that in the default payload the Su-25T has a small bomb, which hinges further back in the pylon causing it to not be seen from the cockpit. But the bomb is there :D
  16. Just a small correction - the beauty of TWS. TEWS is the radar warning receiver for the F-15.
  17. Its out: http://www.freefalcon.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17580
  18. Left 4 Dead is a simple game graphics-wise, and the benchmark was run using a low resolution (1280x800). Thats why they reached hundreds of FPS in that case. So the GPU was not bottlenecking the system. But fair enough, L4D indeed is multithreaded. Lets look at a single-threaded task - Winzip 12: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts-update-1/WinZIP-12-8252,1400.html i5 750 still faster (301 sec) against 955 (321 sec). Heck, even my Q9550 (2.8GHz) is faster than both (295 sec).
  19. Clock number alone does not reveal performance differences. http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts-update-1/Left-4-Dead-1.0.0.5,1403.html Look how the i5-750, despite being 2.66 GHZ, manages to get more FPS than a 955 running 3.2 GHz.
  20. I do not agree with this "hardcore realism" concerning the spotting of ground or even air targets. We are using computer monitors to spot a tank. Only the highest resolution and pixel density displays out there (that costs thousands of dollars) are able to match real life visual acuity. And then there is the FOV issue, and the parallax issue. I hate labels because they make life too easy. But even when you are looking directly at the suspected target location, full zoom in, they are still hard to spot. Using the -65D on A-10s and the LLTV on T-Frogs (its a low-light device, but acts as a FLIR in-game, even in daylight) alleviate the problem.
  21. Probably because a solid slug can ensure the complete destruction of the target, while a proximity-fused explosion could leave some margin for survival. EDIT: GG'ed :D
  22. Flying F-14s against a flight of MiG-31s is a blast! Thanks for the mod! Shame that some weapons do not work given lack of avionics, but, well, that was expected.
  23. No need to apologize man, not you fault. You guys are doing a great job, and we are just anxious to appreciate it and give feedback.
  24. Rapidshare is not the only site on the web to upload files. This one -> http://www.steekr.com/ is free and does not have download limits.
