  1. I did not know of this - probably a better place than I just suggested as there is probably less potential for changes when updating, reinstalling, etc. Thanks, Eddie!
  2. Just put them in the Missions folder under the install directory (usually Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A10-C\Missions, if I recall correctly) and they will show up in the missions list within the program.
  3. I think this may actually be due to the improved performance of the AI flights. Of course, their superhuman spotting abilities doesn't hurt. It seems to me that all of the AI flights, and my wingmen, are more effective since v1.1.1.1.
  4. Thanks for pointing this out - yet another feature I had not yet discovered despite many hours spent exploring the capabilities of the CDU. I have to say, though, that if I make mark points I feel are useful enough to wish to preserve well into a mission I generally convert them to waypoints and give them a meaningful name. In other words, I don't usually care much what letter is assigned to a mark point if it is for immediate use, and so have never really had a reason to look for a way to clear them. To each their own, though, and it is cool to learn there is a way to accommodate the desire to reset the system as BillyCrusher points out. Thanks again ED!
  5. Hello and welcome to the forums! This is a great place with many friendly and helpful people, which is good because you will probably be kissing the rest of your life (wife, girlfriend, kids, horse, whatever) goodbye now that you've discovered DCS... The best place for help with multiple monitors is this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=60815 As for somebody to take you under your wing, say hello to some of the virtual squadrons - they are always looking for recruits and flying online with other skilled pilots is a good way to learn this amazing sim.
  6. See the flight manual, top of page 222. (Sorry, not home now so unable on the screen shot, but the manual has a nice picture of it as referenced.) Edit: I should also add that, once the EGI is aligned, you need to select NAV from that same page and select EGI in the NMSP (below the HSI) before the EAC will stay armed.
  7. Good advice from both GGTharos and -Ice. Just want to add my US$0.02 on maneuverability: The DCS A-10C is very maneuverable but you need to do some work to keep it in its very tightly modeled flight envelope. When learning to fly any new aircraft a basic exercise is practicing all manner of stall maneuvers: power off, power on, accelerated, high bank angle, etc. Watching your g meter (top left of the HUD) and angle of attack (below the airspeed gauge) during basics maneuvering will help you understand the limits of the envelope (which, as GGTharos pointed out, varies with aircraft loading - weight and drag - also nicely modeled in DCS). The Split S is a good means to reverse direction for an attack run (for example), but you really need to keep a constant g load, watch your AoA and don't overspend the aircraft. An arguably better, and perhaps more realistic maneuver for turning in is the wing-over, which allows you to keep eyes on a target area as you pass, but then pull back over and into it with a bank angle of 120 degrees (or more) to the side the target is on. I find this helps me keep SA and better control the aircraft when running in on a target that I've just passed. Hope this helps.
  8. The EGI has to be fully aligned before the EAC switch will stay armed. Edit: that is, line 8 of the NAV ALIGN sub page on the CDU reads "T = 4.0.0.8".

    No SPI

Oglerd, Thanks - that explains it. I did not realize the EGI needed to be fully aligned in order for the system to be able to determine the ground elevation of the coordinates entered. I never had such a problem entering coordinates from JTAC, and this is the first time I tried to save time by entering points from the mission planner map during start up. I had assumed that having the DTS database loaded would be sufficient. I stand corrected! Thanks again, and a Happy New Year to all!
  10. Ok, I have been having a great time since the early betas and I know that I have read the solution to this problem before on this forum but am unable to find my way back to it with searches today. My question is: I enter the coordinates for a few waypoints i noted as points of interest while reviewing the Mission Planning map while on the ramp waiting for the EGI to complete alignment. Is there a way I can get the CDU / terrain database to provide the ground elevation for the location (i.e., L/L or UTM coordinates) automatically? The problem is that if I enter the waypoint without explicitly setting an elevation when I cycle to the new waypoint to set it as my STEERPOINT the system flags "NO SPI" and I am therefore unable to slave the other sensors to it. I expect this is realistic behavior, but I am trying to figure out the best way to set up such waypoints while on the ramp and be able to call them up during the mission and slew the TGP, or other sensors, to them the same way I can with other per-set mission waypoints, mark points, etc. Seems like I must be missing something simple, so don't hesitate to be brutal pointing out what I might be doing wrong. :music_whistling:
  11. I have my paddle switch mapped to Wheel Break, I believe. When assigning the switch make sure you click the box in the Joystick column of the Wheel Break row. When the assign dialog box comes up simply press the paddle on your stick and it will be assigned.
  12. Another setting that if worth mentioning is: DisableSnapViewsSaving = false in Views.lua. This setting defaults to true and unless changed the (excellent) method described above does not work.
  13. As others said find the key commands to place the TGP in "black hot" or "white hot" mode; otherwise the TGP acts as a normal light camera ( CCD, or charge coupled device ). I don't use easy communications, but normally you have to place the rotary switch on the communications control panel into the "INT" position to talk with the ground crew. Be sur eto turn it back before trying to use radios during flight, though. Also, I believe that you need to be parked within a certain radius of the airport tower (don't know what the radius is) to rearm and/or refuel.
  14. All good advice here so far - I will only add that if you do not have rudder pedals you can map the friction slider on the throttle to work as the rudder and map the paddle switch on the stick to activate the wheel breaks. I use the friction slider for the rudder, and find it most natural to set the invert check box so pulling the slider turns left and pushing it forward turns right. I have not needed to set dead zones for any axes, and us curvature settings of 25~30 for pitch, roll and rudder axes. Traveling for the holiday at the moment so unable to provide screen shots, but will be happy to if nobody else has (and assuming you still need them) by the time I get back.
  15. Thanks for the update, Accipiter. Looking forward to trying this one again this weekend!
  16. Or worse yet, right after I rifle...
  17. Makes sense, but seems to be just a tad out of order in my last three tries in the MIDNIGHT RUN mission.
  18. I'm getting this message, too, and am not understanding why. In a mission I've flown several times before (Bahger's MIDNIGHT RUN) I release the requested LGB on the bunker he's laser designated. Just before the bomb hits the JTAC calls "TERMINATE, TERMINATE...", immediately followed by "Good hits. Target Destroyed. Thanks, that's all for now...". As i said, i've flown this mission several times but never got this before 1.1.1.1, so maybe something about the logic changed?
  19. Sure: say you are burning 2000 PPH (pounds per hour). If it is 30 minutes to base your BINGO fuel level is 2000 * 30/60 + (reserve) = 1000 lb + 2000 lb = 3000 lb. @Eddie: thanks for the pointer to the fuel planner - I had forgotten about that project. Will check it out again.
  20. There are a number of Mission Planning "Sample Problems" near the end of the T.O. 1A-10A-1-1 manual that detail fuel calculations. A wide variety of missions are covered, and the tables in that manual seem to apply well to the DCS A-10C. All of the examples include a "Landing Reserve" of 2000 lb. Of course you can also do a quick calculation by checking TOT with the CDU STEERPOINT page set to home plate and noting your fuel flow at cruise settings. Multiplying return flight time by fuel flow rate and adding the reserve yields an estimate of BINGO fuel quantity.
  21. V1.1.1.1 Bahger, I've been away for a few weeks (work, life, etc.) but always liked this mission. I patched up to v1.1.1.1 and everything seems to work well until I tried to fly Midnight Run again. JTAC responded fine but despite several tries with slightly different approaches the primary target never shows up on the TAD? It could very well be something I am doing wrong, but I flew this mission dozens of times before and always got the red triangle in the TAD after acknowledging ready for further talk on. Do you (or anybody else reading this) know of anything in the more recent patches that might have broken this part of this mission? I realize I can enter the MRGS coordinates to create a waypoint and hit the primary that way, but am curious whether something changed that renders this mission different due to the patches. Is there something I can edit to fix this?
  22. From the STEERPOINT page (and maybe the Waypoint pages, too) press the LSK next to IAS. This cycles the speed readout to True Airspeed (TAS), to Ground Speed (GS) and then back to Indicated Airspeed.
  23. I have trouble sometimes trimming roll (using TM Warthog), particularly with an asymmetric load. Pitch trim is usually easier, though, if you use the throttle appropriately as well. That is, once the plane is pitch trimmed it will settle at a stable airspeed but may slowly gain or lose altitude, which can be checked with appropriate and slight throttle adjustments.
  24. There is no such functionality in the CDU ( such as in a commercial airliner ). There is a good section on fuel planning in the RL flight manual, available by link in the Manuals & Documents sticky thread.
  25. What Cibit and Sarge55 said. I'll just add that I tend to offset at a range suitable for the weapons I extend to employ once I have the targets marked. That way I can start my run once my orbit has me pointed directly at the target area; AP off and increase speed while I lock on the MAV (or other weapon of choice).
