  1. In mission 2, the moment the migs fire at me the "you have opened fire without authorization" trigger happens (mistakenly) at the same time and the mission is failed immediately. *They* shoot first and I get blamed ? So unfair... Version : current openbeta (2.7.8.16140) Expected behavior : only the "we have been engaged" trigger fires, not the "mission failed" one. Then hopefully I dodge the missiles and start bringing Freedom to the communist hordes yada yada... Track is too big to post here but maybe it's not required ? I have it around anyways if needed. As you can see, i'm not even in offensive mode and I still have all my missiles.
  2. Gosh, you weren't kidding. Then I flew the last three missions of the campaign and ... no words. Hats off, sir. A masterpiece.
  3. Right, gotcha. Lesser of two weevils, I guess. Well, I can always edit my progress in the logbook so I'm fine with that. Still it'd be nice if there were a better way to sequence missions ! Wishlist for ED. Thanks for the discussion and taking the time, much appreciated. Now I need to go do some actual work I'm paid for but tonight I'm tasked to sit Alert 5 on a carrier in the Black Sea. Probably nothing, I'll bring a paperbook to read in the cockpit.
  4. Amazing ! I started to replay Big Show on the Channel map but I'll wait a bit for the update to roll in. And I guess I'll have to replay Wolfpack and BNBoB too. Looking forward to it, many thanks for your hard work. Does it make a difference in the Horrido or Jagdflieger campaigns too ? Maybe I'll replay them anyways, just in case.
  5. Indeed. BTW, to clarify, that's the way stages are setup in Operation Earnest Will (*), mentioned by an earlier poster: OCA is the deck start full mission and OCA_C is the airstart shortened variant. The score in the full mission is set at 50 only *after* the whole takeoff, admin and boring flying to the action zone, rather than at the beginning, so don't crash on takeoff ! But any time after that, any failure or restart will move to the _C variant, which is the air start right before the action begins. The airstart mission starts with a score of 50 so it will loop on itself until success. It makes for a very enjoyable experience overall ! Note: with the "skip mission" option now available on the campaign UI, should the user go back one stage because of failure before reaching the "score=50" point, they can skip over the previous stage and easily get back to the stage they were in. Or they can not accept the mission results and forget about it all. So in terms of user experience, there are reasonably accessible ways to not go back one stage. (*) I really hope it will be back soon, it's an amazing campaign and well worth the price, should it come back as payware. Support the content creators !
  6. From my understanding, if you set the points to 50 at the start of m11/m11b (as you, and most campaign creators, usually do because moving back a stage is pure evil), then failing either m11 or m11b keeps you in the stage and on m11b. I guess setting the 0..49 parts of the score is in case you fail at stage 12 and it gets you back into stage 11 ? But that shouldn't happen so let's not worry about it. So the issue is if you fail to reach the refueling point in m11, like a cold cat launch straight into the sea . You'd still get your 50 points for participating (because nobody wants to regress a stage) but then on your next try, you'd find yourself directly in m11b, having missed all the pre-tanking part of the flight. I'd wager that anyone who has made it this far in the campaign is unlikely to fail that first part of the mission and so the benefits are worth the possible inconvenience. Anyways, it's your work and I'm just asking to understand if I misunderstood something or other, as if felt like the perfect opportunity for a checkpoint. I do love long missions(*), just not flying them twice if I can avoid it (and I use ctrl-z if I can't). Thanks, Buzz
  7. I'm not sure I understand why it wouldn't work to set M11b as the outcome for a score of 50 in stage 11 ? (0..49->m11 , 50->m11b, 51..100->m11). It's a very long mission (and quite boring to replay, intentionally by design ) and you already have done all the work to have a checkpoint ! Solution for the lazy yet adventurous ones who want to replay *only* the last part: quit DCS, edit your logbook.lua and simply add a 'b' to your current mission in the campaign. You'll get the expected effect. (usual caveats apply, don't mess up your stuff, backup before you operate, etc, etc) [15] = { ["stage"] = 11, ["mission"] = "FTB - 11b.miz", }, -- end of [15] Cheers all, Buzz
  8. I kept them at an angle(*) (about 30° left) so when they turned in and shot, I was already beaming them. I notched and extended on full burners, and that defeated the missile. Then I turned back offensive, got the first one with a head-on AIM9, then turned inside at the merge and gunned the second one. Maybe having played Zone 5 first helped my A2A skills . But I need to read up on chaff and flares programs, to help Jester a bit. (*) my original idea was to roleplay and not get too close (25nm) from the mainland.
  9. Did I fly Zone 5 with the TopGun soundtrack in the background ? Maybe I did. But you'll never be able to prove it.
  10. So I was there, enjoying the campaign but feeling it just a tad repetitive. And then I started using TacView to debrief and analyze my flights. And it just clicked. The progressive difficulty just made a lot of sense. I even reflew a few hops after analyzing bad techniques in BVR or BFM. I think that using TacView after each hop makes it even more like the real thing, so I recommend it as a great complement to the campaign. " -Aircraft one performs a split S. That's the last thing you should do. The MiG's right on your tail. Freeze there. The MiG has you in his gunsight. What were you thinking? -You don't have time to think up there. If you think, you're dead. -That's a big gamble with a $ million plane. Unfortunately, it worked. The MiG never got a clean shot. Maverick makes an aggressive vertical move and defeats him with a missile. The encounter was a victory, but we show it as an example of what not to do. "
  11. I like it so much that it should be a standard feature of all campaigns ! Thanks for taking the time to add this feature in, it's much appreciated.
  12. I just finished OPF and I had a blast. Very enjoyable missions, good voiceovers and no bugs or issues that I noticed. A strong contender for my favorite campaign ever. Is it me or, when "Switch to Overlord and press Space", you check that the player is actually on the correct frequency before moving on ? If so, it's a *very* nice touch. I think I would have missed quite a bit of content at times (I'm confusing VHF AM and UHF sometimes, silly me). Send the idea over to Baltic Dragon who loves to play with frequencies. Loadouts are fine, especially as long as you can lase GBU12s through the clouds ! The only time I changed one was... Now, the thing I did struggle with was the cloud cover. At times, there are so many that it makes it difficult to find a safe place to loiter while keeping an eye on things. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to Cerberus North !
  13. Looks like someone's wish got granted : I'm not sure the moon phases are visible but on the video it seems that it's not perfectly circular ?
  14. Oh, that what this option meant ! Now I understand it better, thanks.
  15. I understand your viewpoint. If ED aims for maximum historical accuracy, they should also provide accuracy beyond the plane itself as, as we see here, the environment plays (played ?) a part in the whole system.
  16. It's amazing how ingenuous some of those early radionavigation systems were. And how they managed to work around limitations in technology or even (in this case) User Interface. I believe the Mig-19 has two separate "memories" for the frequencies and thus does not require the outer/inner NDBs to be coupled. I wonder if the Mig-17 has made the jump to that or if it still has the early Mig-15 system that we discuss here.
  17. The near and far beacons frequencies are supposed to be coupled. Same position of the tuning handle, only different frequency ranges. The one for far that you set on the rotary 3-position dial on the right (for the far beacon), the other for the near beacon is set by the switches. But by design, the tuning handle should not move. Only the ranges.
  18. Seasons would be helpful too !
  19. Hey everyone ! Buzz here, from (apparently) ED's pro bono dev team. Attached below is the now usual rebase of my fix on latest openbeta (2.7.6.12852). The same change, as always, around line 1122. Same rationale as before : no idea if the source bug is fixed but the code looks just as brittle as ever so better use my defensive code instead of flying a campaign mission for an hour or two and seeing the End Mission button fail. Enjoy, Buzz me_logbook.lua
  20. Getting home alive to fight another day is half the battle, and the Jug does give you a clear edge there. Playing @Reflected's "Wolfpack" campaign (Mission 9), I managed to evade a swarm of ticklish 109s so thick you could walk on them, by a short high-g turn for spacing, diving for speed, and then running away in a high-speed slow climb. And after getting some of that MG151 love, it was time for a spray of Flak 88 on the way home. Still, the beast took me back home, full of holes and vibrating like crazy, I had to use the hand pump to drop the gear and I juuuust barely overran the runway (that's when I bent *one* prop blade on the fence ), mechanics will hate me. I got a strong feeling that a Mustang or a Spit wouldn't have taken me home but the Jug did. Just like happened in real life ! Awesome modeling of all those airframes. How about y'all ? What was the most heavily damaged Jug that still got you home ?
  21. (In case someone has similar fuel issue) To reduce fuel consumption : check out the data on the kneeboard. There's the various engine settings for takeoff, emergency, max continuous and *economical maximum* . You can use those when cruising (back home in particular) : 32" / 2250 rpm / AutoLean I find myself switching to Auto Lean during cruise at altitude in formation, even if not quite at the max eco settings. I don't need it on the way in (drop tanks) but I guess/hope it can help on the way back. (Though haven't checked if it does actually help in practice). Oh, and try to use full throttle before applying turbo to reach & maintain 32". HTH, Buzz
  22. This Oh this. Oh, so painfully true. I played mission 3 twice, first time I followed those principles, stuck to my lead, landed back home and then ... I stupidly clicked "Exit to Desktop" . Progress lost. Blast it. Second time, more familiar with the mission, full of this overconfidence that kills young pilots, I broke off my lead to chase a couple of 109s. Quickly found myself with a couple of 109s in my pocket (yay ! Paint those flags on my plane, chief) but ... but ... followed by half an angry Luftwaffe. Low and slow and alone. And after a few seconds of desperate jinking, I was in a slow parachute descent towards the Channel. "Four, ejecting !" It does feel good to mostly just fly formation (keeping up in the climb takes a bit of practice and no fear of living close to the red lines !) and try to survive ! It's also good to not be the lead for once. Great job ! (As usual with your campaigns )
  23. Thanks for the answer. I am not a great pilot and I'm guilty of some ... energetic ("brutal" ?) flying sometimes, so reducing collective completely is something I do sometimes during a fast and high approach.
