Replacement Air Group. Old naming (like CAG for the air wing commander) for the Fleet Replacement Squadron, back when an Air Wing was called an Air Group. It's the final training for the naval aviators, before they join the Fleet proper.

OK, I finally made it through the whole campaign. I had a blast. Let me join the chorus in congratulating you for an amazing experience. I had my doubts about Marianas as a stand-in for Vietnam but I do agree that you made it work quite well. With just a bit of suspension of disbelief, it works very well. Also, it makes the flying quite easy without advance navigation aids, as you can always use the shoreline as a reference. And the "letters from home" was an amazing touch. I love it when there is a backstory (still got goosebumps from Jagdflieger), it helps with the immersion and gives a lot of sense to our flying. The music was also a nice touch, in M12 in particular ! In terms of the flying, I find that you really managed to capture well the weight, temperature, and other conditions that made UH-1 operations difficult in Vietnam. Hot weather, full load of fuel (maybe some additional hidden cargo in the back too ?), that made the flying just as difficult as you'd expect from reading books by those who flew in that period. TLDR : Great job ! Loved it.

Are you referring to this video ? That looks indeed very promising ! And I love to fly formation too, as a wingman. Looking forward to more realistic motion from the lead. Alright, @Reflected , just how many new campaigns do you have incoming ? Mosquito I know of but you also speak of F14 again (is that the sequel to Zone 5 you mentioned earlier ? ) and now ... Spitfire ? That all sounds awesome !

BTW, I've made a fix to the "End Mission" bug, if anyone is bitten by it. Watch that thread as I regularly have to reupload a new fixed file when ED makes changes to it (but they haven't grabbed my fix, unfortunately).
-
BTW, since some people are still encountering the issue, here's my fixed file for use with current DCS versions (2.7.9.18080, both stable and openbeta at the moment). It may be the same as the one I uploaded above, I don't remember if there was a recent change to the file. As usual, drop in DCSWorld\MissionEditor\modules and replace the original file. Fix is on line 1126, the usual stuff. me_logbook.lua

It might be an instance of that "End Mission" bug that has been plaguing people for some time. People who encounter this issue, please save your dcs.log and your debriefing.log and send it over. I've been trying to find a reproducible testcase for some time.
-
Glad to hear that, Jeff. Happy to help. If anyone encounters the issue on a non-payware campaign, let them post the debriefing.log file *and* the .miz file so that we can try to reproduce and pare it down to a simple test case. I've been blasting static buildings for months trying to get a replicable failure but to no avail. (Payware campaigns are encrypted so we can't pop the hood and reduce missions to a simple test case). Also interesting to see it happens also on NTTR, I had it on Caucasus. So it's not only on one map. Finally : does the issue happen only on air-to-ground missions or also in pure air-to-air ?

My fix is not in 2.7.9.18080 so I'm not sure what you are referring to. I suggest asking @JeffreyC for details of his recent issue since he's the one who ran into it. I fly with my fix, that I rebase regularly when the file changes, so I'm immune to the issue. I suggest ED merge my one-liner fix to protect users from the issue until it is fully resolved. I guess that the root cause is similar to this : And you may have better luck asking the MOOSE devs as they apparently know (and had to workaround) issues that also look like they may have a similar cause: https://github.com/FlightControl-Master/MOOSE/issues/1334 https://github.com/FlightControl-Master/MOOSE/issues/1337

Nope. It happens when a unit is destroyed by the player but is missing a targetMissionId field. Maybe some scenery object ? For fairly obvious reasons, I fly campaigns with my fix. Still, as I said before, it is quite visible that the code is fragile. I don't think we users need to spend hours to produce a track for the devs to fix this bug. Or at least workaround it. Heck, I even provide the fix, free of charge. Just merge the thing. For reference this was my original report with has more detailed logs: And this is where I explain why the code is silly:

fixed internally Mission 13 - Wingman stuck at Runway line-up
BuzzLine replied to winz's topic in Bugs and Problems
Probably Max chatting up the ATIS girl. Or trying to ! -
When will the campaign be available on Steam ? Maybe @BIGNEWY know ? Thx, Buzz.
-
Same here ! But it also means I won't have any regrets spending time at my parents' this week-end, instead of staying home and flying ! While we wait, to brush off my Huey skills, I flew the Larkin Aviation campaign. Free, short, fun, and very well done. It's in the User Files section. Now waiting for the serious fun to begin !

Similar issue, I guess. -
M2: wrong trigger fires and causes mission to fail (spoilers, obv)
BuzzLine replied to BuzzLine's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yep, that works (distance when migs engage 23.69nm). Workaround confirmed. Thanks ! (Now I need to not die like an idiot to those missiles but at least I don't have the mission failed trigger. ) -
M2: wrong trigger fires and causes mission to fail (spoilers, obv)
BuzzLine replied to BuzzLine's topic in Bugs and Problems
All right, I'll try "pre-notching" until 30nm. I need to check on the tacview how far I was when he shot, I don't know how much distance I need to gain. I'll give it a shot (pun intended) and tell you if it works. Thanks ! Buzz. -
M2: wrong trigger fires and causes mission to fail (spoilers, obv)
BuzzLine replied to BuzzLine's topic in Bugs and Problems
There you go ! Here's a screen of the event list and the full acmi is attached. As you see, I did not initiate combat nor asked my wingman to engage. I also have the .trk but it's 12MB so can't attach it there. I wish I could open the .miz and debug it myself but ... Cheers, Buzz Tacview-20211204-235334-DCS-F15C TGW M02.zip.acmi -
"I hear they've got good surf there" => Oblig quote : "What do you know about surfing, Major, you're from g0ddamn New Jersey !" Can't wait ! And I hope really hope pretty please ED, cherry on top, that the update will drop next week as I'll be moving right afterwards and I probably won't have more than sketchy Internet at the new place for a while...

Heads-up to @baltic_dragon,thanks ! -
Awesome explanation, @Frederf, learn something new everyday ! Thanks.

Have you tried KN 54500 44100 ? The two digit groups are the N/S and E/W coordinates, getting progressively more precise. So I believe you should pad *each* with zeros if they are not precise enough. (But I would have guessed that the CDU would have accepted any even number of digits and split&pad automatically )

Indeed. AAR in a turn is tricky in any airplane, doubly so in the Cat. Some people (including real-life F14 pilots apparently) recommend moving the wings aft to the "bombing" position. It's supposed to make it easier, I don't know. And yes, the hard right break of the wingman when they disconnect, right into you flying on the tanker's right wing is such a pain. I took to flying much more forward on the tanker's wing and a bit high to avoid this. Thanks ED for a lovely AI. Fly safe, Buzz

After FTB, I should've known better. I apologize for my lack of trust. Well played, sir, well played. Wait ... No Wagner ? NO VALKYRIES RIDE ?? How am I supposed to fly a straffing attack in a gunship if there is no Wagner ??????? Doesn't smell like victory to me...

As with Zone 5, I'm preparing my playlist for this campaign... We are most ... fortunate to have this campaign coming soon. Thanks @Reflected for the answers. Concerning the radio triggers, in the real world we have proper procedures to ensure both parties are listening before exchanging words. In DCS, once a message is gone it is gone forever. So I love it when designers implement a bit of safety so that players don't miss out on important things. (Guam is not Vietnam indeed but will we have B-52 flying out of Guam to carpet bomb ... Guam ? )

Looking forward to it !!! And thanks for the book recommendations. I suggest adding "Minuteman 2-3" to your list if you haven't read it already and aren't completely fed up with VN-era and Hueys. Couple of questions : 1. A feature I loved in "Persian Freedom" (a great A-10C campaign by ChillNG) was that whenever you had to call someone, the "press Space to call Magic on U3" trigger would work only if you pressed space *and* you were on the proper frequency. This saved me a couple of times from missing critical mission updates or fun banter. I see from your video that you've added this condition in your triggers for inbound communications, have you also implemented this for outbound ? 2. Marianas map is very populated, with modern housing and such. Did you find wild "jungle" areas on some islands, to look like Vietnam ? Or did you use RemoveScenery (or whatever the thing is called in ME) to clear up some of the modern infrastructure ? Very impatient to try out your new work !
