Here's what I can't quite fathom, though. This is some sort of conference populated by people, who at some stage were very well respected people. What's the angle? Is this set up to neutralize and focus the UFO/Alien groups into a dead political end? And if so, ... why? I think that's too general an assessment. Tartus is along the Coast to the West of the Alawite Mountains... which draws it's namesake from the Alawites who live there. They are very much a homogeneous lot and the New Damascus (Sunni + Fundamentalists) would never control them. The same way they won't control the largely Homogeneous Kurdish areas. I guess if Assad did fall, the old Alawite State that used to exist would be reformed. Tartus would remain as it is.

The 2 navies differed completely in purpose and size. The US Navy is about the ICBM's, ASW and above all, supporting shore operations. The US Capital Ships are Aircraft Carriers. The Soviet Navy was all about ICBM's some ASW and harassing the Atlantic Corridor. You Harass the Atlantic Corridor by those big fat nuclear tipped missiles by hitting Super Tankers in the middle of supply convoys and Destroyers and Carriers. The Capital Ships of the Old Soviet navy were the big Boomers.

Some of those anti ship missiles have been used in combat... well the export models. The Egyptians used them poorly as some sort of Coastal defence. They scored 1 kill which I read about before... the missile almost split an Israeli cruiser in two. At least in the near past, they were formidable weapons when used correctly.

Here's the thing though... aren't all those naval SHORAD modules hooked into the main RADAR Complex on the ship? In other words getting a leg up on a standalone Ground version.

AGM-65 is a foot wide. A Harpoon for example is only an inch or two wider.

And that's the problem isn't it? An overbearing design bias for the much feared B-52/F-111 on all systems from aircraft to SAMS to Missiles but shoe horned into a fighter role /anti fighter role.

As I thought.... THe lion of Babylon was basically a copy of Eastern European Licensed T-72M1's also. I don't think they even had composite armour, range finders were like hen's teeth.

He's assuming an ET would need to be rail launched as opposed to Catapult launched. Rail launch does not clear the missile from the aircraft before motor ignition.
