I would move onto navigation next, though it entirely depends on how you want to master the sim. For me, after take off and landings I then practised navigation between airfields using GPS, TACAN and then ILS approaches. Start at day, then night, then poor weather, then poor weather at night. What's the point in knowing how to deploy weapons if you don't know where to deploy them?! :) Good luck!

Hey, I agree, I think a desert environment would greatly improve the simulation. The landscape we have is looking a bit tired now so I eagerly await Nevada. Also, there is an area of the map currently which looks a bit like Afghanistan, though I can't remember where it is! It's clearly an arid area with many mountains - I think this type of campaign you want could be simulated there.

Would the ease of flying the FC2 stuff not give them a huge advantage? I'm speaking on a work load basis, don't the FC2 pilots have more time to dedicate to flying and combat, whereas DCS pilots have more to think about?

Hey, probably a stupid question but I'm trying t do the Dragon training mission for refueling. The TACAN of the air refueling craft is X1 TKR...How does this translate to the TACAN? Not sure quite what I'm inputting...I've always found it easy with airports :s

Hi there, thanks for your reply. I meant all rather than both, sorry! Basically the question was less about the reliability of the engines and more about the capabilities of the airframe at high speed/high altitude without engines!

Hey all, been away a while and relearning soem systems. Can anybody recommend a good JTAC tutorial? there seem to be lots of videos but not many actual tutorials, is there a location of a collection of high quality training vids?? Thanks :)

I managed fine without TrackIR for ages, though now I've got it I don't think I could fly without it. Infact I tried a while ago, it's amazing the difference it makes. Without TrackIR the game looks like a 2d screen....With it, it feels like you're in the cockpit....I know that sounds ridiculous as youre looking at the same image, but it's certainly true for me!

Awesome thread :-) Real nooby question here...A boeing 747 is cruising at 36k feet when suddenly both engines cut out. They cannot be restarted. Is it possible for the plane to land, or will it drop out of the sky?

Would you guys expect my rig to run the game at? I often get smooth FPS and then in combat it drops to the mid twenties. I'd like some suggestions about what sort of settings you guys would expect to be running at with this system, particularly with the new patch (which I've not had a chance to fly with yet!) Cheers, (i have 6gb of ram now, res is 1900-1200)

Coop or head to head environment with the most detailed commercial sims available. Particularly with Nevada (which I feel will most likely have many Afghan themed missions) this will be incredible. Will the Shark be able to fly in Nevada? I'd love to hide behind a sand dune in that thing.... Ahhh, I am so happy...

Very frightening stuff. I really feel for those poor poor people on board. It must have been horrific. It seems a lesson has been learned and the failing instrument has been replaced, but what a terrible way to learn a lesson.

Why did they not pitch down and increase throttle? I don't understand how a stall can cause this to happen with a modern airliner..I'm not saying there was error...Just curious how this could happen...Even with fault readings you'd be aware you're stalling or in a dive...Are there not standard recovery procedures for this?

You'd prefer to buy it as a full priced module instead?

I'm probably in a minority but I really like my X52 pro :) Probably couldnt go back to it if I used a metal stick though...But for the cost it's incredible!

Hi, nice post though I disagree with the distinct disadvantage comment. My X52 Pro is setup well and I can get to every command on the actual HOTAS very quickly - Add muscle memory to that and I can't really see myself being much less efficient than somebody with a warthog. That said I have no comparison.. TrackIR on the other hand...I quit playing RoF online until I had trackIR because I couldn't get a kill. Now, I can get a lot of kills. It makes a very big difference in a very real way!
