Sorry if it's already been posted but I had a quick scan of the pages and couldn't see it. http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_462a.html Here is SimHQs review of DCS:A10, for anybody interested. Con

I've always thought that - Often when electronics don't work, they start working when they're knocked! Very strange...Probably something to do with dodgy connections?
-
You're presuming the altitude hold works!

Hey guys, Installed TARS today and tried to get it working online but it wouldn't work. It says it's installed, and not disabled...Can anyone think of why it displayed as "not active"?
-
Random failure generator? Surely not..you'd expect these aircraft to be maintained, quite literally, with military precision...Surely my 14th hour of flight would not involve such an incident! Also, Pitot was off..I only switch it on just prior to take off and whilst taxing after landing! hmmm...

Hey all, Just did a standard startup and was parked on the ramp setting up my mission WP's when suddenly I get a CADC failure...Any idea what could cause that at a standstill?? Cheers

Hi mate, also from the UK.. Have just applied to firstfighterwing (http://firstfighterwing.com/joomla/) and am in the process of underdoing their selection stuff, which seems very straight forward. If you were interested perhaps you could apply there and we could train together? Get to grips with TARS etc etc! Just a thought... Con

It should display the radio info when you've run FSX! Make sure you get the most update drivers an software from the Saitek website as they vastly improve it. Plenty of videos on youtube but I think this one demonstrates the complexity better - Still, it may be better to learn the A10 first. To be honest, I've got very little knowledge as to which is most complex - Can anybody clarify? Does a 747 have more complexity than an A10 in terms of flight, despite lacking the combat avionics?

You're welcome! Also, from what I understand, the PMDG products take FSX and turn it from being a survey sim akin to Lock On and turn it into a real sim like DCS. If you're serious about flight simulation being as real as possible, it's definitely something to consider! That said, the A10 will keep you busy for a long time! Enjoy it all, you've got hours and hours of learning and fun ahead :D

Happy Birthday and very nice on the gifts! The MFD can be used to operate the radios in MSFX (just install the drivers and SST software on the website, I believe) however it will not work with DCS A-10. The best you can get is for it to flash up with what the name is for the key you've bound, which you setup whilst configuring the stick in SST. I would definitely recommend getting a payware addon for MSFX if possible! Maybe a PMDG if you're interested in jets (apparently the MD-11 is incredible), because DCS is so far ahead of stock MSFX that you'll very much feel that MSFX is a game. Best of luck with it :-) The A10 is a real monster to learn....I don't envy your first acquaintance with the CDU :D Con

DCS DEATHSTAR! Incredible...They would need a fair bit of AI for many of the jobs though given... "The first Death Star is depicted in various sources of having a crew of 265,675, as well as 52,276 gunners, 607,360 troops, 30,984 stormtroopers, 42,782 ship support staff, and 180,216 pilots and support crew." - Can you imagine if each of those crew members had the average intelligence of a DCS: BS Wingman? Still, the chance to say "fire aff when readeh" prior to blowing up a planet would top anything the hog can do..

How long have you had it? I'm curious about how long a well looked after stick lasts...No plans to replace it soon but the plastic does seem flimsy! Still very comfortable stick and reliable so far...

Hey guys, I've just been checking out this VATSIM thing and the info on the website isn't all that clear. Is it primarily for FSX and based on big servers on which everybody flies? I had a look at getting involved but realised it seems that anything short of real life training is probably not enough! Anybody experienced it? Is it as cool as it looks? (Cause' virtual airliners are cool, y'know!) Con

I can't fly the F16! It's only got one engine and I ALWAYS end up breaking at least one! DCS X-Wing is still the way forward....Warp calculations, shield balancing, four engines should three (inevitably) fail, retractable s-foils..Probably not many people offering contracts for it though...
-
I think it'll be really cool when we can play A10/KA50 sorties together...Though why they'd ever be flying together is beyond me...Perhaps we'll start seeing more KA50s with "APACHE" written up the side... I have a feeling not many KA50 pilots will be queuing up for a Russia vs USA online faceoff, even if they do try to deceive us with their US ARMY skins....:D

Thank you...The more I am learning the more I am realising how complex this is...Navigated to a location in the dark tonight using in putted coords as a waypoint then set to steerpoiint, then used ILS for a successfully landing...totally overwhelmed and haven't began with weapons yet... Forgotten how to do it all though, maybe tomorrow :D

Betty won't even get a chance to open her mouth...:D

The Quad is better - DCS (and pretty much any game) use between one and four cores..By the time the first CPU is of any practical use it'll be obsolete. The higher clock rate on the Quad will be of great benefit.

Anybody that has the capacity and desire to learn and use this sim should really not consider pirating it!
-
This... But seriously, pretty much wherever you want. Just find something that looks like parking ramp. How I wish they'd implement FSX style ATC and Taxi-ing!

We've had a rocky relationship....

Do we have any confirmation of how big the Nellis range is?

Wow they're really losing out using the craptastic 80s chopper. I hope the patch comes quickly so you can GAU them out of the sky.

Hey guys, I have a few questions about the use of the TAD, hooking, TGP...etc... I think I am nearing the end of my Nav training...I'm currently working on setting up flight plans with the CDU, but have a question. Basically, I press TMS right short and it sends the coords to my CDU, but what altitude does it default at? I ask because I set them on the TAD and as such there is no altitude dimension! - Also, can I set a waypoint in the same way, via the TGP (which would presumably include altitude reference too? Finally, is the hook system so that, quite simply, you have an extra hud indication to a point of interest. For example, if I was set to orbit a point and there were enemy AA in a location, I could set my hook point to their location and always be aware roughly of their direction (though not range?)? Really starting to see these systems coming together now...Reminds me of the first time I took out a datalinked target in BS! Cheers :) Oh, and a great aid for learning how to set up Waypoints and flight plans in a very simple manner is here: Thank you to the creator!
