Also - TARS a great advantage :D I'm a geek and think it looks cool.....

Well done! I haven't even tried it yet...

Hey all, I'm seeking a squadron for DCS: A10. I'm capable of operating the weapon systems and am familiar with the navigations and combat, however am still a beginner in every sense of the word. I'm willing to put in time to train (this week for example, I've spent about 11 hours starting up, doing a number of touch and goes and then shutting down) and am looking for a serious group that are willing to have fun. Any training you provide is of course a bonus and I'm willing to put a number of hours into my own training. I am also UK based..If that has any bearing.. Thanks!

hmm, i'm still confused...everyone keeps talking about lasing a target...it's always been fine automatically for me?! whats going on??

Dear ED moderators, developers and everybody else involved in this project. I have spent hours and hours clocked just taking off and landing... This sim is exceptional and I can't wait to buy every single future instalment. I hope the release to us civilians is profitable because without you we'd have very little software for our hobby. Thanks again to all of you who have helped me, and brought this brilliant simulation to the public. Conure

TY guys, have been following the manual but its a little sketchy in places..For example, when waiting 5 mins or so for the EGI to align, what do the numbers which change cultiminating in 4.0.0.8 actually mean? I don't understand what the aircraft is doing, and why we have to wait 5 mins! It frustrates me to not know :D Cheers

Hi Parias, I think we have a very small and niche community which is of huge advantage to us! Fly other peoples missions. Half the beauty of this hobby is being able to meet hundreds of other fans of aviation and sims - there are LOADS of multiplayer missions for Black Shark, and over time there will be many more for A10 :-)

Hey guys, So yesterday I spent three hours or so doing Batumi touch and goes and have pretty much got landing down (in clear weather at daytime)...I start out at at about 10 miles (is that too far?) bring it in so that I'm at 1500 radar alt at 5 miles which seems to be fine. A couple of questions about ATC though...When they say "fly heading 270 for 50, pattern altitude" that effectively means fly west for 50 miles whilst descending to pattern alt, which I generally make as 2000ft agl. So when this happens, does the game generate a random point in the air and when I reach it I get cleared? Also, they often say cleared for visual and then after, cleared to land, check gear. Does cleared for visual mean I can begin to land? I don't really understand the difference! (Also, my profile says one landing...I did at least 20 yesterday!) Edit: Radar altitude seems to be more accurate than barometric at lower alt, should I switch to Radar for landing? Thanks everyone :) Con

So ATC want an A-10 to climb to 30,000 feet? Weird!
-
not without a DC it wont :D
-
Yeah, thanks ED for keeping these sims going.

Sorry all, another potentially stupid question.. I'm reading in the manual about TACAN, and something I've never got with civ/military jets is VOR/TACAN...GPS/CDU Divert seems like a much much easier way to get to where youre going...Is it just a backup system?

Thanks all - Makes sense...I was confused as I thought the egi was already aligned...Must have been mistaken! Cheers

How to use weapons - Picture guide: GBU-12, GBU-38 and AGM-65
Conure replied to SimFreak's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks for the nice guide - Is there any use in using manual laser over auto? It's always done it automatically for me! -
Hey all :D three quick questions that I can't get an answer to! I've already asked a bit about landing, as all I currently do is take off and land...Annnyway.. when I start up, EAC wont turn on sometimes, for quite a while...The switch flicks and flicks back to the initial position automatically. This also seems to happen with lights during the startup sequence..Sometimes Anti collision just wont turn on... Finally, from what sort of distance do most of you begin final approach? If I post a track of a quick flight with me starting up, taking off, flying a circle and landing, please could some of you give me some pointers on improving? Thanks! Con

Thanks NoJoe, I'd even already posted there :-) Will follow what you say!

Hey all, With Black Shark I kind've jumped in, learnt systems at a shallow level and become mildly proficient but never confident at operating the Shark. What I'd like to do in A-10 is train in a similar fashion to RL pilots, though I'm unsure of how to go about it...Can you suggest a decent training package for this kind of thing? I'm looking to log a number of hours flight focusing on individual systems so that when I come to apply for squadrons I'm as capable as possible... Anyway, I know that roughly the training is: Basic flight Navigation Systems and weapons But this is very vague..What would be great and also add to the immersion in training, in my opinion, would be a systematic training schedule such as... Module 1: Basic engine operation (11-12 hours) 1: Aircraft specifications and general aircraft knowledge (recommended 3 hours training) 2: Aircraft engine startup, possible faults and health checks (recommended 3 hours training) 3: interpreting CDU errors during startup (recommended 2 hours training) 4: Emergency shutdown procedures and recovery (recommended 90 minutes training) 5: Engine shutdown, possible faults and health checks (recommended 2 hours training) Module 2: Basic communications 1: Radio overview: Function and capability (recommended 40 minutes) 2: Radio operations: Tuning your radios and knowing which to use, when. (90 minutes) 3: ILS/ADF (90 minutes) Anyway, you get the general jist...A full training schedule which is significantly more in depth than the training missions, but more focused and interactive than the manual. Rather than just giving you information, giving you information in a practical situation and preparing you for all variables.. Anyway, does anything like this exist?! If not, could somebody suggest a rough training schedule which is less vague than flight, nav, systems?? Cheers :D (ps, if i get proficient enough and it doesnt exist, I will try to write such a guide..)

Hey all, Thanks a lot for the replies! I agree that a little more ATC interaction would be nice -I was a little surprised to see that you can't actually confirm you've heard a message...It removes a lot of immersion...This is very geeky but my favourite part of FSX was interacting with ATC!

Hey guys, I've decided to take things slowly and master the basics fully such as takeoff etc. A few questions though... When I approach and go to fly the pattern, I'm unsure of how to approach, altitude, speed etc - What would this generally be? Also, I don't usually use ILS...Are most landings done by just judging distance etc without the aid of landing systems? Thanks :)

Hey guys, When youre in the view mode in which the mouse moves the camera, is there a way to make the windows cursor disappear? its very immersion breaking! Cheers

I can't join the RAF because I don't have the eyesight, I cannot go up in a military aircraft solo. So that's entirely out of the question...Not too sure what the rest of your post meant?? As for maths, I was really just curious about what level I would need to pass exams..

Well, I finally did it...I've got some savings as as I'm still young(ish) and living with mummy, I have decided to put my money into flying. Also, I've got a part time job close to my home so I can fund my training. Anyway..My plan is, 4 days a week at a job and 2 days flying, with 80% of my income going toward flying qualifications...I know it seems a bit OTT to have such a sudden change of career but it's something I've been passionate about my whole life. So, now I've justified my impulsive actions (mainly to myself and to be justified to my girlfriend later this evening) I am looking for advice. Basically, it'll take a few years training to start as a paid instructor, and there are numerous ground school exams..to any pilots out there, how hot will my mathematics need to be? Basically, I am useless at maths and as such will need to practise - how much is used in general light aviation? Secondly...Is there any software (i.e fsx etc) that will realistically improve or support my real world flying? even if it just supports my theory and ground school.. Any advice appreciated, as long as it doesn't tell me to call my boss and beg for my old office job back... Cheers all, Con

Officially - Will A10 be Compatible with BS?
Conure replied to Lonecrow66's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Shame the SU-27 can't be made compatible. Not that I've flown it, just heard good things. No doubt it'll be a future DCS project though. -
I'd like to see the A-10 on the RoF engine...Mmm...
