I would quite like a Boeing 747.

Anything fighter-esque is great for me. I've been wanting to blast the Top Gun anthem whilst me and a mate pretend we're "Iceman" and "Maverick" for quite some time. Here's hoping I don't get stuck in anyone's jet wash, enter a flat spin and break my copilots neck on the canopy (wtf?) when I eject!

your rig will be fine - people play it on much less :-) Welcome aboard and if you have any questions just ask! Con

Try forcing V-sync on through your Nvidia/Ati control panel, I think I read somewhere that that can have an effect..

Hi and welcome, It's a great sim with a great community, just don't take Mower too seriously! EtherealN is spot on on the order to do things in, in my opinion, and don't underestimate the quick start manual. It gives you a quick introduction into each of the weapons systems and how to utilise them. It helped me loads when I started out. My advice would be not to do a full manual read through prior to playing (some people recommend this) as it over saturates you with information and leaves you even more clueless. It's best to start off flying the aircraft and getting used to its handling (which won't take long given how easy this thing is to fly). Work through the aircraft section by section, consulting the manual as you fly. The active pause button can be used (left shift + left windows + pause/break) and will allow you to configure your systems whilst "paused". It's great for getting proficient with various weapon/systems employment. A good mission to practise on is "weapons training" which you can load from the missions selector on the main menu - this will allow you to engage a number of ground targets or just practise touch and goes. It also has some waypoints to follow and you can practise using the TGP (Camera/optics system for selecting targets). Some other advice regarding performance if you're not on a super powered rig is, turn water to low! It is rendered everywhere under the land and gives a huge performance hit. Even those with the good PCs tend to set it to low. Anyway, I think that's pretty much the stuff I was told when I started...The game has a fair few bugs at the moment for some of us, but worry not as Beta 6 release is imminent and the game is improving by great leaps beta by beta. May I also ask what your joystick/hotas setup is? There is an absolute wealth of experience here regarding profiles and the A10 has a huge number of buttons/hats to be mapped, so I'm sure we can help you out. Best of luck with the sim, any more questions and just ask :-) Con

Hmm, please could one of you help me? I reinstalled the game, load it up and can't unpause..Yet pressing keys makes the switches work (I can hear them)..This is very odd, I've reinstalled..Same problem, any ides? Thanks :) con Actually only clicking the blue box makes a switch sound..this is very weird

Cheers. Which is the target exe? Is it launcher.exe?

Hey all, What are your opinions on in game AA for A10? Is it better to force AA via Nvidia control panel, and AF? I'm not sure which is better! Cheers

Please have mercy and release! Dear ED I check every day to get only disappointment. It's like waking up on Christmas morning and having no presents, not that this ever happens but it's exactly how I expect it feels! I have been very well behaved on your forums, and so think I am deserving of a Beta 6 release now. Please take my sad, sad story into account. Can't wait any longer! :-( 25 years old, and feel like I'm 5.... Con

I think you'll be fine. Next beta also seems to have a number of FPS improvements so it'll only get better. By the way, after install run a defrag...It gave me a nice FPS boost. Good luck

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll still go for FSX then. Yskonyn, something I've wanted to ask a real airline pilot for a while is, do you get pleasure out of sims or does flying in real life take all the fun out? I mean, do you just sim for training? How can it be fun to simulate on a PC when you can do it in real life?? thanks Con

Hmm, bad cockpits? Damn, wish I could get a civilian flight sim that either the creators havent abandoned or doesn't have poor quality details! I just want to simulate 12 hours of monotony on my days off!
-
hey guys, recently considered getting FSX but decided it's a little too much hastle with all the addons etc. Is x-plane 9 good in your opinions? Does it have nice cockpits etc? Good FM? If I buy it online can I just torrent it and use my details, rather than waiting on the CDs? cheers!

Yes post a track please - very interested in what this is!

Well, I can only speak for the x52 pro...It's been fine, though a little difficult to setup at times but that's my stupidity rather than bad design..It has a known hardware deadzone in the middle so if you're very specific about quality I would avoid the X52 pro.Though it's a decent enough stick I'll be swapping it for some CH gear in the next few months. Depends how serious you are about simming. The x52 is a great way to get into it but if you can afford it, go for the Warthog! The logitechs are force feedback which, for me at least, means I avoid it. I havent had a force feedback stick that has worked correctly since the microsoft stick I had years ago....Also, the FFB is unrealistic. during my lessons in a Piper Warrior I've never felt anything close to the effects produced...I'd avoid FFB...Just my opinion! Check out some youtube reviews to see them in action! Con (Just read your first post so ignore my x52 stuff :-) ) -
When she found out (via a receipt) that I'd spent 120 pounds upgrading my video card she thought I was crazy spending money on "video games"...Good thing she didn't find the receipt for the mobo, cpu, ram, psu and new case too isn't it?!
-
If she had a great PC I'd play DCS at hers...It works best for us all this way :D Cheers guys!

Hey guys, I'm putting together a PC for my girlfriend out of my old parts, as she currently is running an old laptop and wants something a bit quicker. Anyway, the components are.. Q6600 @ stock 4gb DDR2 800mhz gtx260 @ stock 200gb 7200rpm HD Anyway, the issue is, the only spare PSU I have is 450 Watts on a generic quality PSU. Now I know if I was gaming/OCing I'd need a better PSU, however my girlfriend will never game, and the video card will only be in there to supplement watching movies/browsing the net and flash stuff etc. I'd presume with everything at stock and the graphics card purely fulfilling this role, I wont need a new PSU, what do you guys think? Cheers :-)

That's amazing, thank you!
