I'm about to purchase a new rig which will be dedicated to DCS. It will have a new Windows OS on one M.2 NVMe and I'm planning to install DCS on its own NVMe, it will be a complete rebuild. How do I go about trasnferring all of my purchased modules/licences ? Is it just a case of disabling/uninstalling them from my current rig first, then signing into my account in my new rig and downloading/installing again ? All my purchases are for the standalone version. Presumably I can also copy my Save Games\DCS folder across ? and I understand I may have to restore my controller settings from backups.

New Rig - Ryzen 9 5900x + PALIT RTX 3090 ?
ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I am certainly not offended and am extremely grateful for your detailed advice. I only mentioned it because I followed a few posts in the hardware section that began as requests for specific advice and then decayed into handware arguements. Since joining the DCS forum in June I have nothing but admiration for those experienced and knowlegable members who take the trouble and time to offer their advice to new members. I would certainly have struggled to get anywhere near my current understanding without them. Thanks everyone again for all your help. -
New Rig - Ryzen 9 5900x + PALIT RTX 3090 ?
ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sage words, thank you. Not expecting miracles, I'm currently flying the A-10C II and the Viper with my G2, on a 6700K and 2080, with pretty much everything turned down to minimum and every optimisation tweak applied to try to maintain 45 FPS motion reprojection (some of the time) in very basic missions, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it! If I could maintain a solid 45FPS motion reprojection with full G2 resolution and a tad more detail in complex missions I would be more than happy. With regards "very old code", until I recently retired I was employed by a certain American investment bank and I can tell you that there is still IBM mainframe COBOL and Assembler code running there, in systems responsible for processing millions of transactions daily, that was written in the mid 1980's ! I kid you not. -
New Rig - Ryzen 9 5900x + PALIT RTX 3090 ?
ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thank you Qiou87, Some differing opinions there, I hope I haven't sparked another hardware arguement The best air cooler I can get from this system builder is the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4. I have read since yesterday, that air coolers tend to last considerably longer than water coolers, so that would certainly suit my requirements if it provides enough cooling when the processor is pushed/boosted. Regarding boosting, and again, forgive my lack of knowledge, I literally only started looking at this 2 days ago - is it just a case of downloading Ryzen Master and choosing PBO or AutoOC? or do I leave it alone and it will automatically boost to around 4.9 as suggested above ? I really don't want to get too involved in the whole overclocking experience, the machine is going to be dedicated to DCS so I'm just looking for the easiest way to maximise performance for that with the Reverb G2. and with regards PSU, I'm somewhat limited - no 750s but they do have a 850W - Corsair RM850x 80+ Gold Modular PSU - White ? For memory, perhaps I'll stick with the 2 x 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz for now as it keeps the price down a bit, and I can always add another 2 later, particulalry as I can only get 8GB 3600 sticks. Many thanks for all the assistance -
New Rig - Ryzen 9 5900x + PALIT RTX 3090 ?
ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks folks. I can get Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3600MHz - Black which is 18-22-22-42 (is that CL 18?) but only in 8GB sticks, so I guess I could get 4 ? Looks like I can also get the Corsair Hydro H115i RGB PRO XT Watercooler - 280mm Good news about overclocking, really wasn't looking forward to diving into the BIOS. Many thanks for the good advice -
New Rig - Ryzen 9 5900x + PALIT RTX 3090 ?
ShaunX posted a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have the opportunity to get a new rig with a Ryzen 9 5900X with 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz on a ASUS PRIME X570-P PCIe 4.0 ATX Motherboard, paired with a PALIT GeForce RTX 3090. All the components are available now. I'm no hardware expert and have no experience with Ryzen processors. I'm intending to fly more or less exclusively with my Reverb G2. Can anyone tell me : Will I need to overclock, and if so how easy is that to do on a Ryzen? Would I just use the Ryzen Master utility ? Any experience of PALIT graphics cards ? Any issues pairing the Reverb G2 with such a rig ? The rest of the spec: 500 and 1000GB M.2 NVMes 1000W - ASUS ROG Strix Fully Modular 80+ Gold PSU and either be quiet Dark Rock 4 Air Cooler or Corsair Hydro H100i RGB PRO XT Watercooler - 240mm Really appreciate any advice. -
9 posts up is my post with the DCS test version zip attachment I got from Nobiwan last night.

The version I have does that already. Where are you getting a new version - Github ?

The "snap" left or right is only effective while you hold the button (I've bound left and right on my coolie hat). It snaps back to your current head position when you release the button. You can define the angle you want it to snap (this is the number of degrees left or right that it will add to your current head position). I'm finding 30-35 degrees works well. Autorotate does it's "snap" when your head position reaches a defined angle left or right from straight ahead. I have mine set at 110 degrees. So when my head reaches that angle it snaps an additional 30 degrees (or whatever you define) and I'm looking back over the tail. It snaps back to actual head position automatically when you turn your head back (again at an angle you can define seperately - I have set mine to snap back at 100 degrees). You MUST also map a button to the reset function, but that is only required once, when you first enter the cockpit, to calibrate it's zero position. I think most of us are mapping that to the button we already have mapped to the DCS VR View reset. If you forget to click that first you'll have an out of body experience For me it's worth having both the manual button snaps mapped AND autorotate enabled. I'm using the autorotate to check my six and the buttons are more useful to get the headset sweet spot over the left and right side consoles so I can read them without cricking my neck. I have to say this is brilliant little mod.

Maybe a bit of a newbie question here, but might the introduction of "Vulkan API and Multi-threading" in Q3 offset that a little ? or am I being hopelessly optimistic ?
-
Attached I've just realised that this also solves my problem of not being able to twist my neck far enough back and down to bring the sweet spot over the A10C radio and lighting side console controls in DCS without pretty much getting out of my chair. Now it's easy with the touch of a button! VRNeckSafer_Release_VRNeckSaferDCSTest.zip

Nobiwan has just fixed this for DCS. I've just tried his latest DCS test version and it works perfectly, both the buttoned and autorotate. It seems to be vital to map the "reset" button and press that first, otherwise the jump up occurs. Once it's been reset however, everything works and no further resets required. Tested on the Viper and A10C this morning. New DCS version is towards the end of his thread. Oh, my start up sequence had to be: WMR -> Steam VR then open a desktop window and run VRNeckSafer, then DCS. It wouldn't run before Steam VR loaded.
-
If You run VoiceAttack (or RS Mapper for that matter) you can map LSIFT+F4 to the depression of a button (HOTAS hat in my case) and F1 to that button's release, giving you a quick lookback and return to cockpit view when you release the button. Works really well for me..at least in the A-10C where LSHIFT+F4 gives you a view looking directly back over the tail.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
ShaunX replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Just tried that mission with the A10C in VR. Still no metashaders2. "Medium - Georgian Foothills - Summer" right ? Anyways, I'm not experiencing any problems so perhaps I should just shut up and enjoy it while it lasts -
VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
ShaunX replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Not sure if this is an issue. I've noticed that whenever I come to reapply the shaders mod following an OB update, I clear down FXO but when I look in metashaders2, it is always already empty. Does it depend on module/terrain or something or am I missing something ? -
I'm also a 68 and happy with the FOV The Frankenfov mod is really not an option for me. I have prescription lenses fitted and with those in if I press the headset as close as possible with the face plate still fitted my eyelashes are touching the lenses. Even if I take the face plate off and hold the headset as close as I can I really don't see much FOV difference and certaily no sweet spot increase.

That works perfectly, thank you sir !

If I may enter this discussion a little late.. Regarding start up order, I always startup VA with Viacom Pro BEFORE launching WMR because, as I have to have VA running as an administrator, if I launch WMR first and then run VA from a WMR desktop, I then have to remove my headset to click on the "Do you want this app to make changes to your Device?" window, which has blacked out my headset display. This is pain, because I now have prescription lenses fitted in my G2, which are excellent, but means when I take it off I'm essentially blind and have to fumble for my specs I'm also having an irritating issue whereby it appears that VRAM is not always cleared when I exit a mission. If I start another mission without quitting DCS, my FPS tanks, and sometimes, even if I quit out to Steam VR, it's still not cleared and Steam VR glitches until I quit all the way to WMR

I've installed the A-10C II to trial it in the free to play period. With my underpowered rig (i7-6700K @ 4.4GHz, 2080 Super, G2) I've noticed that the experience with motion projection is immediately more stable that it is in the Viper. With the Viper I was getting ocasional dropouts below 45FPS but with the Hawg it seems perfectly stable in the same (admittedly quite low activity) conditions. However, what I am noticing is that I'm getting tracking issues (slight positional jumps) when I go head down to the left and right consoles. I've tried different lighting conditions but can't seem to prevent them and I don't get that problem in the Viper. Anyone having similar experiences ?
-
It's definately open now on Standalone. All modules available to download from module manager. A-10C II on its way down to my machine now
-
"The Free to Play period will run for two weeks (22.12.20 10:00 PST - 05.01.20 10:00 PST)" ..you have another 50 minutes to wait
-
I get similar issues. Steam doesn't crash on me but something is not clearing VRam when I exit a mission so if I start another my FPS is tanked. I have taken to quitting to desktop from the mission and restarting DCS again. I have also disabled SteamVR Home from SteamVR settings as otherwise it glitches when I quit DCS.

Yep, same here, great deal considering it now retails at £639 from the same site. I do also agree that SystemActive were excellent and really wasn't expecting any sort of refund. That said, it's HP offering the refund, not SystemActive. I wonder if other distributers are being offered the same deal from HP, or if SystemActive badgered them into for their customers.

I pre-ordered my G2 from SystemActive in the UK on 30th June and received it on 1st December. A couple of days ago SystemActive sent me an email stating: " We apologise for all the delays, missed delivery dates and general confusion caused during the HP Reverb G2 Pre-order launch. As a good will gesture HP is offering you £50 cashback which will be paid into the account of your choice " I thought it was a mistake as I'd already received mine, but I completed their form and uploaded my invoice which clearly show delivery date, and I've just been approved for a £50 refund ! I guess HP must be taking a lot of stick for the delays
