  1. There's hardly any effective maneuvers in the Top Gun movie that actually work. (Yes that includes flying inverted over your opponent. ;)). Possibly if his opponent was extremely untrained and didn't know how to stay on offense that would have happened. Ideally he should be at corner speed, pulling max g without bleeding energy to stay away from the gun crosshair/boresight then wait for his opponent to make a mistake (like pulling up, bleeding energy, failing to fly to the elbow), then take advantage of it and get into the offensive BFM. Really...those jink outs are if you actually need to dodge live fire, and not to switch offensive. It's extremely dangerous, because it bleeds off any remaining energy on the aircraft, leaving you barely maneuverable without any speed to jink out any fire.
  2. LOL! Funny you mention that. That nearly broke me in the real flying world. So many times I'd hear: "Stop staring at the instrument panel! Keep your heads up and S C A N! I don't want you flying us into a 747 by accident!" It's because you can't feel any gravity forces on you in the sim, so the only way you can tell if you've just hit a microburst, is by looking at your VSI.
  3. That's a good question. I think it depends on what you mean by "mastered". However, I don't believe you could fly it intelligently. That doesn't mean you couldn't do a ramp start, or operate it's MFCDs well. I'm sure you'd feel very comfortable in the jet. But you'd still be missing the fundamentals of flight. As a pilot, you often times find yourself amazed at how often even private pilot experience helps you fly a modern jet. For example, external light operation and purpose, right of way, light gun signals, preflight and walkaround, even ATC communication. And no matter what desktop simulator you fly, you'll never be able to experience anti g techniques, or 'seat-of-your-pants' flying. I'm a huge believer in simulator training though. The first time I flew an airplane, was at the age of 13. I obviously didn't solo or land, but I departed, flew side-slips and turns around a point, and even flew the pattern after a brief radio failure. The ONLY reason that was possible, was because the pilot asked me: "So...do you know what these instruments do?" It blew him away to learn someone at that age could identify every cockpit instrument. And I know kids even younger than I was could do the same thing, all thanks to sim developers such as Eagle Dynamics.
  4. I think the reason they look so different, is because the DCS image uses too much gaussian blur. Also, the RW pic uses more of a high-vis paint scheme. You might find it easier to compare these two:
  5. How on earth did he keep from entering the scripted Lock On stalling?
  6. I didn't mean seeing it was a bear, I meant seeing the guy in the outfit to begin with! You're focused on how many passes the white team makes, that you don't even catch a random guy walking into the middle and dancing off to the left. That airbag video...you guys are gonna hate me but I actually find funny. It reminds me SO much of the way me and my older brother were as kids. We did a lot of stupid stuff like that. If I ever got hurt, he'd laugh his a$$ off at me and then become concerned later if it was actually serious. It sounds crude, but any young and bored brothers can probably relate.
  7. How on EARTH did you catch that?
  8. Wow, those are some spendy rigs. You've got outstanding cable management in that F-22 case. Makes me wanna rebuild mine with a new case...
  9. Don't know if it's been posted yet:

  11. I believe CH products made a HOTAS for TFC A-10C and released it to the military specifically for TFC A-10C. However it wouldn't be available for the average consumer to purchase. That's where Thrustmaster stepped in...hence speculation TM made the Warthog HOTAS in place of it, for DCS A-10C. CH's A-10:
  12. Okay...well since everything posted about this that hasn't come from ED/TM is purely speculation, I highly doubt anyone is going to be too upset when you "prove" this world wrong in this oh-so competitive guessing thread. :music_whistling: Does 'it' mean DCS!? :smilewink:
  13. Sweet! First time I've ever seen a MB placed on its side like that.
  14. Wow buddy. Why don't you re-read my post? Everything I've said reinforces theories, because unless you're part of the ED or TM team, how do you know any more than I do? I didn't make a public announcement, I said I believed they were connected considering there's more than one video of the TM Warthog being used in demonstration with DCS A-10. Seems a little odd that two companies got their hands on unreleased products from each other without setting it up. Not to mention making them plug and play compatible with each other. So where's you're compelling evidence they have nothing to do with each other?
  15. I wouldn't mind seeing pics of your F-22 case
  16. It seems very logical to me to believe both companies are organizing a release date together. The TM A10 HOTAS was basically built because of DCS I believe. But Matt just posted screenshots saying they were implementing DX11. That means parts of the sim are still being coded, and they haven't even begun wrapping up the final build and testing it. As much as I want to believe it, 2-3 weeks seems like not enough time to wrap it up, get copies ready, and a launch of a huge product. Are you enjoying this ED?! Seeing us create conspiracies in anticipation for your simulator!? Them ==> :smoke:

  18. Try using a program called Hamachi for your LAN games. It allows you to be on a virtual local network and even installs a fake network adapter in Windows. Whenever me and my clan are having connectivity issues, especially with FSX and GameSpy, we use it. If you need help setting it up, let me know. ** Hamachi's Website ** P.S. ECV56_Finger - that's an awesome signature!
  19. Rumors are the only thing we have to go on. If release dates and inside information isn't given to the public, who's to say they're right or wrong? hassata was only guessing. And unless there's evidence against it, he has every right to rumor a possible release date. I personally would be doing cartwheels right now if the mid September guess was accurate.

  21. Land on it, press the carrier takeoff keystroke, then go into full afterburner. Same as on the AK.
  22. It's not about learning what flight dynamics are, it's about transitioning from fixed wing to rotary wing. I didn't say I couldn't fly it, I said I didn't care for it. :)
  23. I too don't care for flying the Black Shark. As mentioned before, you spend way too much time fighting the sucker. The control inputs are very awkward and I end up by looking like those drunk pilot demonstrations at air shows. What the heck - why is this thing yawing and pitching up like a mother!? Trim damn you! Ah...coming in for a nice landing here, what the...now I'm getting sucked towards the ground outta nowhere!? Oops, just snapped my rotors off trying to climb outta it. *Closes sim, starts DCS A-10C*. On another personal note, TrackIR/FreeTrack becomes extremely important in Black Shark. I have TIR4, but for some reason, my neck starts hurting soon after using it. Also - it's impossible to click switches when your view is moving around from the slightest head movement. 'Master switch...on...NO DON'T TURN OFF THE FUEL!'
  24. Searched for a BB code guide...and solved my own problem.
  25. I'm wondering how I can add titles to links in my signature. Like, remove the URL, but translate the link into "Sample Link". I tried HTML code, but it doesn't work.
