Well done, thanks for sharing

I'm thinking of doing one of those "Hitler is upset with _______" false subtitle videos about Fighter Ops. That'd be hilarious. :megalol:

If Area 51 is modeled, I won't be happy unless we have signs and 'camo dudes' watching every pixel.

Great link...but...where's the purchase button?

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
636_Castle replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I've been browsing through the pages and tallying up some of the totals. Here's what I've seen so far: 1st Place: F-16/F-18 Tied 2nd Place: Tied w/ Apache and F-15 The best choice though, would have to be the F-18. Modern naval aviation offers too much diversity and a huge amount of new challenges to sim veterans. With the Russian flyables in FC, Russian Advanced Flight Models, Russian Su-33 Carrier Ops, and Russian Attack Helicopter in DCS, I'd be blown away if I had to fly something else with cockpit translations. I really don't think using a HOTAS to move a 150 knot low-g chopper would be all that immersive, so I'm really hoping in the next DCS module, I'm able to fly with a little more than turbofans or propeller blades. And if they want a real challenge, put some carrier ops in there :smilewink: -
Oh gee...I just looked at the date...haha! BTW that model is spectacular. Looks like it was professionally rendered in computer software.

thanks guys :D

I'm mainly familiar with two different types of US Navy paintings. CAG and Line. CAG are generally "prettier". They are employed, but are in the back of the line, and only see sorties for a special occasion or if there's a really empty deck. It's part of Naval tradition from when they'd paint yellow wings on special aircraft. Normally, CAG aircraft have double nut tail numbers. (Two 0s on the tail, ie: 300)

This is something I quickly made in Flight Sim X. I had meant to create something much better, but I ran into a lot of difficulties. I still managed to release something, but it's nothing too special. I've provided an HD link instead of embedding it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yXj3AuY2yY&hd=1

I've decided to give Falcon 4 another chance. I've been getting too impatient waiting for DCS A-10, and unfortunately FC2 can't completely satisfy my needs for cockpit realism (which is understandable considering we have 8 flyable aircraft). I'm not a big Viper fan, but I'm very interested in these Ayes pits. Back when I used to putt around in Falcon, I downloaded a mod called Red Viper. It included many extra cockpits too, some of which looked similar to Ayes pits. What are your guys' opinions on them? Do they simulate these aircraft as well as the F-16 is simulated? If they're any good, I'm going to consider getting into this sim full time again until A-10C is released. (God help me after I step into the sun for the first time after playing DCS A-10). And finally: What are the differences between these F4 mods? (OF/RV/FF/SW/AF...)

Thought all you sea-jocks out there like me would enjoy this clip of the F/A-18.
-
mvsgas - agreed there's no way someone could take videos like these, and know what they're doing. I hate the comments on YouTube like "thanks now I can go steal an F-16!" They'd destroy it as soon as the thing moved, haha. But still, they're cool references. I wouldn't mind seeing a RW Super Hornet ramp start, or A-10C ramp start from the pit

Most of the aircraft I love to fly have center stick setups, which isn't ideal for flying from a desktop. I'm working on getting things sorted here to immerse myself more, and get myself set up with a center stick, but the problem is, I sit too far back in my chair. I'm not the biggest guy you'll ever meet, about 5'9" (175 cm), and so in order to have any back support - I'd have to lean forward a bit to have a center stick. So how do some of you guys have yours set up with your chair? I don't exactly want to totally get rid of my office chair. It's perfect for PC simmers who need ergonomic designs. I was thinking of having an attachment under the seat, but that'd force me to (get a leg over), every time I got up. However I wouldn't want it to be permanent either, so I could still fly in F4.

I was stating the launcher tool isn't optimized to give you full functionality. Sooo.. :noexpression:

I don't see why not. You can manually utilize all CPU cores by alt-tabbing out and resetting the affinity in the task manager. There's also 3rd party launchers at lockonfiles.com that do this as soon as you launch the sim. It's not 100% optimized, though. As for DX11, I'm thrilled about it. Finally an excuse to ditch my DX10 card that I'm so fed up with! I've had this 9800GTX+ since I built this rig, and it bottlenecks my CPU more than an espresso straw in a milkshake. Plus support for tessellation. I think many current DX9 users are going to be a little frustrated though.

I've always wanted to hear what the space shuttle sounded like after coming back in and breaking the sound barrier. I guess it sounds exactly like that. What a high energy sound and rumble that was....
-
Aaahh, yup I see that on the news now. Two F-15s from the ANG's 142nd Fighter Wing were scrambled from Portand Intl. after a floatplane entered restricted air space. The plane landed outside of restricted air space before the F-15s could arrive, but triggered 2 sonic booms that set off alarms, shook and broke glass. Power was cut to the 911 system due to it crashing from an overflow of calls. What I wanna know, is why there weren't fighters on standby at McChord AFB or KBFI. If a seaplane can enter restricted space, then land before the military can get to it, I highly doubt they could catch a well prepared and armed jet.

Was taking a nap when I was rattled awake by a loud explosion and shaking. A few seconds later, a second one knocked a glass off of my window sill and rumbled everything in the house. The latest news headlines say two F-15's flying from Oregon toward Canada have broken the sound barrier, however both the military and the FAA are saying they are still unsure what it was, and are "checking on it". It was felt and heard anywhere from the Portland area all the way north of Seattle, over a 100 nm distance. President Obama just arrived here too....I think those pilots are in deep trouble :music_whistling: Anyone else in the Washington State area feel/hear it?

I'm working on a little film of my own, and I'm really trying push my editing skills to the max this time. What I have is a scene with a jet flying overhead and away from the viewpoint, then climbing upward and out of the shot. I'm trying to add an exhaust/smoke like effect similar to what you'd see after a sudden power change behind it. Sadly, I don't have the patience to "RTFM", and my brain is already worked enough during the day. Luckily schooling gives me permission to use Sony Vegas and After Effects. When it comes to Vegas, I'm somewhat knowledgeable at making a film "look cool", but I'm absolutely terrible at creating special effects that aren't already part of the film. What can you experts tell me about creating that exhaust effect? I'm not Glowing Amraam. That guy is the real deal. I just need a little tutorial/plugin/tool/probably many other things to give me some cool after effects on top of the footage. I'd be more than happy to give anyone who can help a section in the credit roll :) FEEL the awesome power of what after effects can do:

I'm looking for the English download version. On the Lock On site, the download version is right there under downloads. But on the DCS site, it sends you to a payment screen. I already bought BS though. :noexpression:

Super Hornet please. Jane's F-18 is getting uglier by the year. -
Neverending contest (military aviation knowledge)
636_Castle replied to Kusch's topic in Military and Aviation
This is so hard. I'm guessing it's a folding wing, twists and then sweeps back. Maybe tricycle gear, taxiway doesn't appear to be western pavement style (squares are closer together), but so far that's all I've got lol. Is it the Grumman Avenger? (wild guess) -
Wow, you've gone 31 days without being sent your copy? This is why I ALWAYS go retail, even if it costs a lot more. I'd rather pay an extra 10 dollars just so I could hand someone money, and be handed my purchased item in return. Of course I bought the download version of FC2 though, because I don't think the disk version was available yet. I was given my key and everything instantly. Do you have some sort of tracking code for shipment? At this point...it's impossible to tell if it's ED's fault, or the shipping center.
