Actually, after getting taken out many many times on the 104th server by "bulding" I looked up the player loges and yes there was a guy named "building" lol sneaky b*stard!!
-
Meh I just got it through torrents, pretty big at 656mb per episode and there are 18 episodes. Thanks for the heads up Witchking, it looks awesome!
-
Yeah I guess I could have researched failed. The potential was always there and who wouldn't be pro the ship you fly every day? Damn this place is too cool. ill delete the crap ATT was up for too long haha thanks GG <3 Will have to shoot you down on the 104th one day :P (with a vikhr)

I have been away from my sim computer for 8 weeks. Oh god, Im going to learn all this sh*t aren't I? Years of my life replaced by complex comms and jtac, what flavour are those? DCS is that good :)

You know, Mic1184's comment about Ed being Russian got me thinking.. I am completely new to military hardware and terminology for both sides I was a complete noob and only flew x-plane civil helis (bored as hell but didnt realize it) until DCS KA-50 came out. And from the start considering Im white and western I see the American side of things before any other side. Since then i regularly read up on both sides of the hardware and compare, even hellfires (even with fire and forget) don't match a vihkr payload for payload, range for range. I think Russians had a tendency to over engineer their stuff, where as America plays it lighter and closer to the envelope. And in the battlefield over engineered simply works better. Both good for Killing People, maybe equally* civilians, don't get me wrong. But my monies always on the russians after researching the tech (I mean, with 1980's hardware they can almost match an apache, and if there was ever an apache on the side of the planet of a KA-50 they would give em AA and we ALL know it please dont get angry with me its in the g*ddamned specs already!! Edit: Phew I'm in the A:10 forum I can say what I like about AA!But I won't, Mods, You can be assured. ). Besides, as Mic1184 said: And damn. *being ugh, equal about the white elephant. And all subjective opinion.

Apache!! Apache!! Apache!! Ill shutup now Actually, to add something of potential interest, and as "as good of a point as any other" from watching the starting sequence of the Glowing Amraam promo video about A10C The only other aircraft taking off and rolling the runway with the 'Hog is the F15 and Apache's. If I had inside knowledge of what "The List" was I would express it in "easter egg" type hints in promo vids etc. as an inside joke. Anyway take a look: -
Can see what looks like the autopilot channels at the top left of the center console, small left hand cyclic thing looks like the controls for the optical sensor suite (which is the BIG ball under the nose) and it looks like it is static so probably hat slew or HMS only. Is there Radar hidden inside that big nose? Also, Why do they ALWAYS cover up the left hand side of the HUD? specially in all the older KA-50 pics.
-
Great! Subscribed. Also, I noticed that taking the centering spring out of the rudder improved it greatly. Still do friction and goodluck getting it off, just undo every screw and go from there lol. DONT MESS WITH THE FOOTBRAKE WIRES, just UNPLUG FROM BASE and dont fiddle cuz if you're a moron like me it takes ages to getem back in. For all other rotaries and dials RIP.

[Unconfirmed] Russian Air Force has four Ka-52
ben1101 replied to HerrKaputt's topic in Sim Research
I think I saw on a BBC scroll tonight something like 100 or 1000 helicopters being acquired by 2020 and a budget of over 6.5bn.. hth Seems china has everyone getting nervous.. -

Well, Regards to the overload discussed two pages earlier, I make it a point to always fly with the AP Channels disengaged, unless for example following routes for long distances or needing alt hold etc. and I have no trouble (with head tracker) hovering, using the schvkal and searching and taking out targets etc. But my history of simming has been from X-Plane where all the physics are over exaggerated so being able to hold precise hovers with minimal depth perception and visual cues is a very practiced skill.. Using the head tracker to accurately place the schvkal is no problem to bring the hammer down on surprise enemy encounters. (BTW I claim a fast mover kill on the 104th server by side slipping his strafing run on the cannons while locking him and shotgunning him with a vikhr, however he claimed "wire strike" :s ) The way systems are managed in the Shark are very efficient IMO and should not be a barrier to its selection other than the obvious - the fact that two sets of eyes are better than one. wow. two pages. really? did I have to post this? huh.. -

HerrKaput, You raise some good points, and frankly the 52 program seems a bit of a joke considering the same optics can be fitted to the 50 without significantly increasing the pilots workload and at the same time exponentially increasing the machines effectiveness, in my un educated opinion. give us a damned flir and watch the sparks fly, sure as hell beats adding a whole other seat and person. :P EDIT: from the research I have done into the 52's potential deployment it would be to fly high and safe while using its advanced systems to locate and defer targets to the attacking formation of 50's. like using a D model longbow to direct A model apaches. All theoretical at this point though, thats why we need the hard core simmers to test these tactics out :P -

AH-64-A Apache. Dammit. Eurocopter Tiger? Mangusta? OH-Cayuse? Kiowa Warrior? Even a KA-52 as the battle coordinator for a flight of KA-50's with its advanced avionics and optics. Anything but another fixed wing pleeeeease!!! ( No Offence to you fixed wing guys :) ) -
I understand your pain, Ivo, I myself just created two separate CCC profiles like Msalama and Jasper suggested. then whenever I switch games i simply right click on the CCC icon in the tray down the bottom right of the screen and select the profile i want. Good Luck!

Yes I really need to be able to work out the density altitude to understand the limitations of my engines on a given day ... :P

Sometimes when catalyst AI is on, the cockpit starts to miss some textures, or at least it did for me. I have a XFX HD 5850 and have 4XAA and 16XAF and get between 20 and 60fps. Hopefully as the DCS series matures they will bring all the optimizations forward to the first titles and enable things like crossfire and multi core processing etc. which will be da bomb :) Oh yeah, it pays to make two profiles in the CCC manager if you also have DCS A-10 with all options application controlled as I noticed when forcing gfx options on A-10 it slowed the game right down. HTH.

Yes we have some exciting high fidelity environment engines on the horizon which will usher in a whole new world of realism for flight sims, both military and civil. Check out Outerra.com for some jaw dropping stuff! Although their trees are currently sprites, they are implementing procedurally generated tree models, along with a whole library of amazing terrain modelling tools and effects!! I dream of the day when, for example, flying the KA-50 over the tree canopy and being able to peer through the trees and actually see the enemy forces on the ground, being able to take advantage of local terrain at a macro level to get the drop on them instead of being completely unaware of the enemies position behind impenetrable sprites for trees until you find yourself inside a barrage of AAA bullets ripping your poor heli to shreds! Hardware is on the verge of being able to handle high fidelity environments and it is only a matter of time until the next level of simming is a reality! Oh please come soon!!, along with head tracking, 3D screens and 7 channel surround sound headphones the future is coming ladies and gents, and I for one will be grinning from ear to ear when this stuff becomes the norm :D

So why didnt the review look at the latest version of X-Plane? V8.50 is very old now, I run V9.66 and X-plane is about to relaunch with X-Plane 10. There have been many, many updates to the way the simulation models flight dynamics since V8.5 My 2c.

real HD black shark cockpit....
ben1101 replied to RICARDO's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Amazing, Ricardo! I wonder though, how in the movie for the whole battlefield sim the tv when switched off has the reflection of the cyclic which actually moves in relation to the cyclics actual position. That and a few other amazing features they didnt include in the game that Im really jealous about and would Looove!! haha, Anyway awesome work I will be buying/downloading this pit for sure! Ben -
I guess in my original post it sounded like i was showing off or being a bit up myself, What I love doing is flying with absolute precision, like flying close to powerlines ie: simulating maintenance or inspection and other such things as due to the limited situational awareness which comes from staring at a 2D flat screen it requires a lot more concentration to fly the machine precisely. I will give 3D screens a go though, as depth of perception I can see helping this dilemma in a huge way :)
-
well I just love flying the machine, and i understand IRL the channels are there to make the whole fly and fight task a lot more efficient, and IRL it is not acceptable to fly without them on. I can still hold a hover with my head down, just on instruments alone within a 3 meter box - but I have also thousands of hours flying X-plane choppers and also 30 hours in a H300C. I thought there may have been others on here who love swinging this heavy metal machine around by the stick. I for one love it! :) EDIT: My trim is just click on and off with the trim button as I have it linked to rudder key press left and right to avoid stacking up the rudder position with each trim. I use trim to set new attitudes while cruising and to fine tune the hover stick position. Because of the above technicality with linking rudder, I cant hold down the trim button to disengage the friction of the stick and I would reason that IRL flying with no friction on the stick could lead to high amounts of stress on the hydraulically assisted control system - but i dont really know for sure?? (Hi its me from the future, seen a whole lot more youtube vids of 50's and 52's being swung around and considering the Russians ability to over-engineer a bolt these birds would survive you lot with your prolonged trim holding haha Me? Im already flying ag, drunk in a KA-26 held together with duct tape after being kicked out for flying without assists..:D only a tiny Court Marshal unlike some of those big b*stards in their frogfoots and 35's :D)
-
I, for one, love the challenge of flying the KA50 without any AP assists, love the flight dynamics and the real "seat of the pants" flying that goes with it - my first priority in any mission is to turn all the AP channels off and then go from there. Takes a lot of practice for head down target acquisition, especially keeping the yaw in check but it really opens up a whole other world during combat, no longer fighting the yaw hold or PIO that seems to be a huge issue for me and my G940 settings on the pitch axis. Being a quite naturally stable bird to begin with you jut have to get used to the rather large amount of right yaw to keep the heli in trim ( i have found this to be the case whether AP assists were turned on or off) but regardless if you are looking for the next challenge in this awesome game, get into doing missions with the AP channels turned off! (unless of course you want to use the flight director to cover a long distance approach to the hot zone, which isnt really cheating per se...:P ) Love this game, and cant wait for DCS to bring the Apache into action in the next installment!! Ben :D

Old cassette player request
ben1101 replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
haha yeah well, i wouldnt mind a dashboard tape player for when im attempting to clean out Tkvarcheli of those pesky terrorists for the tenth, hundredth time. However, I do have headphone mounted controls for media player so really, nothings holding me back. Loved the youtube video though haha! EDIT: though killing people while listening to radiohead is an interesting, hell, even existential juxtaposition :P -
Just got it too: Agree with Diveplane, a lot of fun and looks GREAT! but hardly a sim. Oh yeah, DOES recognize head tracking which is pretty awesome. Still, my system can run this on full specs without ever dipping below 60fps, yet cant run a10c above 20fps.

Love it! Great idea! If the mod could access your music folder and play from there it would be brilliant!
