  1. Thanks man! That is an awesome mod, but doesn’t pass IC. It’s a shame, because it’s an exhaustive mod. Load screen, music and sweet, sweet legibility.
  2. Point out which on my list is viewable and _clearly readable_ in that screen shot. You’re attempting a burden of proof reversal by asking me to prove a negative. Instead of playing a cat and mouse game of semantics, circular logic and passive-aggressive comments have the courage of your beta testing title and address what I said. What did I post that isn’t accurate, can be seen from that screen shot and is _clearly readable_?
  3. * the entire VTR box * the entire HUD camera control head * the emergency hydraulics switch and control head * 75% of Master Test panel is unrecognizable * both floods and the taxi light switch *the ICLS power switch * the hook bypass switch * The entire threat warning indicator * the entire left hand, windshield warning indicators * the missile mode switch, master caution reset switch, SEAM, collision and hot trigger lights * both engine stall annunciators * both banks of VDI caution lights * Hydraulic isolation switch labeling * most throttle markings (not really important, but you asked) * backup ignition switch * throttle mode switch, backup ignition switch, right and left engine mode switches, * the entire SAS panel * VEC/PCD switch
  4. I’m basing my ‘complaint’ on my own experience. Admittedly Army aviation and not Navy aviation. That standard was once an indicator or labeling became unreadable it was unserviceable. Period. I wasn’t on a carrier, but we’re based on an island chain and salt water/corrosion was a constant problem. None of my control heads ever, ever looked like that and we beat the hell out of our aircraft. Wear and tear is one thing, obviously unserviceable equipment is another. I just don’t buy the lamps we’re nothing but a blossom of light with completely unreadable fronts, regardless of how old the AC was or how well trained our pilots are. I still believe the horrid condition of the tomcat modeled in game is reflective of a end of cruise, lacking of spare parts (the Tomcat’s supply chain was intentionally throttled by Dick Cheney) end of life example. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just that I want something a tad more romantic with a nod towards ‘it’s a game’ when it comes to being able to read stuff in the cockpit.
  5. I meant no disrespect to your experiences or the aircraft. I will also defer to your experience. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Man that’s sexy. I understand the reality of fleet life, it I don’t want that. I want a more romantic view visually. That’s just me though and I completely respect those who don’t agree with me. No issue. I listed off the legibility concerns not as an argument against ‘the truth’ but more as a “this is a game I enjoy the hell out of and would love a pristine cockpit”. Thank you for the awesome picture :)
  7. Not really. It’s A faithful recreation of the beat to hell museum relic they scanned. As for your question as to what’s generally not readable and completely unreadable in VR (not exhaustive and in no particular order) * the entire VTR box * the entire HUD camera control head * the emergency hydraulics switch and control head * 75% of Master Test panel is unrecognizable * both floods and the taxi light switch *the ICLS power switch * the hook bypass switch * The entire threat warning indicator * the entire left hand, windshield warning indicators * the missile mode switch, master caution reset switch, SEAM, collision and hot trigger lights * both engine stall annunciators * both banks of VDI caution lights * Hydraulic isolation switch labeling * most throttle markings (not really important, but you asked) * backup ignition switch * throttle mode switch, backup ignition switch, right and left engine mode switches, * the entire SAS panel * VEC/PCD switch I love the Tomcat and fly it every chance I get. I understand realism, but I also want an option for a ‘in her prime” cockpit and not the end of last f-14 cruise, no spare parts, beat to **** cockpit. A crisper, newer version of the cockpit isn’t a crazy ask. I’m an old UH-60A/L CE and we had some absolute battle pigs that landed in and out of improvised landing areas, grunts dragging mortar plates across floors, brown outs that flood the interior with dirt like you wouldn’t believe and not a one of them looked as bad as the in-game tomcat cockpit
  8. When loading DCS, ESET identifies two files as “malicious” and deletes them. Unfortunately ESET doesn’t tell me which two specific files it erroneously thinks are suspect. When I attempt to load an instant mission I am unable to enter the aircraft. When I click “Fly” from the briefing window rather than being dropped into the cockpit I wind up at the F-10 map. I can exit the mission as normal with no freezes or crashes. The next time I launch the game I am informed the F1 module is unauthorized and will be disabled, and it is. The simple work around is to carve out a scan exemption for DCS and everything works as advertised (once I run a repair). Obviously ESET is mistaken. Any idea why this would happen? Ideally I’d prefer no scan exemptions, but I can live with it as is. Really I’m just curious as to what would cause the false positive. ETA - this is specific to the F1. All my other modules work as normal
  9. Traveling for work. Notice the F-1 is out (a day early?). It’s been a long day and a long week. Manage to get off work early. Check in. Get my stuff set up. Start the download. 40 gigs! No problem, par for the course, amazingly detailed cockpits and aircraft take up a lot of space. Start the download, check out the bandwidth. 500kb/sec. F-1 and open beta update ETA? 13 + hours. Sad panda. Looking forward to tomorrow morning. Edit: saw 900 kb/s a minute ago. I’m thinking if I pull the fire alarm all those data suckers in the hotel with me will have to go cellular out in the parking lot, right?
  10. Appreciate the video OP!
  11. Hello all, I’ve tried to figure this out using the excellent F-14 reference work at: http://www.anft.net/f-14/ By bureau numbers it looks like we bought the first tranche of new-build A+/B Tomcats in 1986, but allocating money for their manufacture is different than when these same airframes actually deployed to the fleet. Hence, my question. I’m asking because I’m a huge fan of the LK Syria multiplayer server and I’m trying to stay within airframes that are legit for the time. The server is set in 1989. The aircraft allowed on the server are much wider than my self imposed limitations, but for me missions are more challenging (sometimes more frustrating too) but also much more rewarding when I don’t have any time-bending aids from the future. No offense intended to anyone who chooses differently - more power to you! After all, I love the Jeff…..but on a more fitting scenario like Hoggit’s PGAW.
  12. Agreed. Thank you for the hard work we all get to appreciate!
  13. Happens to all of us at some point. Most people simply select another airframe of the same type to "solve" the problem. I think that's probably pretty good ediquette as others may be headed to the cats.
  14. Kondor77 - thank you for taking the time to answer OP in a helpful, kind way free from some version of “read the manual”.
  15. Like the original content OP! Thanks for sharing
  16. Nice video! Thanks for sharing
  17. EM? Are we talking countermeasures?
  18. I appreciate your question and hear you. The limitation is intentional, but I don’t know if it’s because of oversight, design or implemented as it’s supposed to be. I do know that we all make way, way too much hay about “secrecy” and the belief that a DCS module is on the edge of legality somehow. Everything used in DCS modules is open sourced and easily so. There’s absolutely nothing secret about any of the aircraft *simulated*. Knowing that the aircraft can do something isn’t secret. How an aircraft system specifically does something (like jamming) probably is. But, for the purposes of a game modeling, an outcome isn’t secret. For example, we don’t need to know how a Growler jamming pod actually works to model jamming in-game. We play a game that simulates the experience of flying a F-18, not a 1:1 direct translation. So, no, there’s no legality question. It’s a design “feature”. Why so slow? Who knows (but it’s not because of secret-squirrel stuff)?
  19. Hey man, I wanted to write and let you know I appreciate your knowledge on the subject and your steadfast resolve to be calm in the face of those who think they know better, because they looked at screen shots of a games’ aircraft model. You won’t get through to them. You’re arguing with people who don’t know what they think they do because they don’t have the background to understand the implied casualties of their argument and lack the awareness to realize that just because they’ve read through Janes or an offhand copy of what they think is the ‘full picture’ from a (one of many) manual doesn’t mean they are informed. It’s the exact same energy that causes people to think they are on the same footing as their doctor, because they’ve spent five minutes on Web MD “researching”.
  20. Really nice work on the modeling! Fantastic attention to detail. You can see the love that went into this. Thank you! I’m finding it very hard to line up accurately in VR. It’s not a resolution issue. I can see the shape of the deck clearly, but I can’t see any markings on the deck until over the fantail. I can adjust the gamma to correct, but then the rest of the world is washed out. It might very well be just me and my setup, but I’d thought I’d report it for corroboration or elimination due to user failure.
  21. Hello all, I've recently upgraded to a PiMax and Vive controllers, from a Rift S/controllers. How do you all use your controllers to manipulate switches? Off/on is obvious, but rotating the 189 volume knobs, or any knob.......I can't figure out. What combination of gestures, for example, will allow me to rotate the Altimeter BP knob? Currently I am using my mouse, but that's less than ideal. It's a small thing, but really slows things down and is kinda awkward. Any suggestions? Is it a function of binding behaviors *to the controller itself* or some setting within DCS I am missing? Thank you for any help you might offer!
  22. I think the confusion may be on max range during testing, versus real life employment. I believe missile max range figures are given on ideal shots - 40k altitude (or above) against a non-maneuvering targets. When you drop down to 20K altitude you’re looking at a max range *significantly* less than max, ideal conditions. Maybe 15 miles and that’s if you’re really lucky. 10k feet will yield something inside of 10 miles. None of what I offered is officially sourced, just a good faith recall of (general) memory. I have no idea what the typical sparrow shot was in training, or RL, while actually employed in real life. I know that in-game 10-12 miles is absolutely max for reliable hits with a big nose lead on the target to get in that sweet spot for the seeker. At least for me and there’s a good chance I’m doing it wrong =)
  23. Very, very late to the post but I wanted to support you in two ways: 1. Love the game, no axe to grind, spent way too much on modules and equipment to not be all-in and a huge fan. Like you, my download speeds are pathetically slow and no, it’s not ‘most likely your PC’. I have a fat pipe and routinely speed test it because it costs a fair amount and I want to make sure I’m getting what I paid for. The issue isn’t us, it’s somewhere else. 2. This community, especially from those that have a high post count, is generally toxic. Passive-aggressive, backhanded comments, dismisses of a good faith questions with a derisive hand waves by forum warriors and the “read the damn manual crowd”. Your not alone in your frustration and observations. I’ve played for a good long while and have virtually no forum interaction (didn’t even register and account until a year ago(?) ) because of how combative the atmosphere *can* be and often is. 3. The most toxic among us are the same ones who defend the combative tenor and tone here. Basically, complaining (like I am) about the forum bullies who patrol these boards like they’re Sheriffs’ Deputies is like complaining to an abusive spouse. They’ll deny it and use your assertion as an excuse to………further bully you.
