  1. Yeah, I'm still around. I remember you quite well - we had a long 4 page thread on the UBI forum ( http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/7221059326 ). That thread covered a heck of a lot of stuff and I sometimes point noobs to it as a useful 1st step for them since it tends to answer questions they haven't even asked yet! I tend to cut and paste useful stuff I find on the forums and save it as a suitably named text file on my hard drive together with the link to where it was. That speeds up being able to give help to folks.
  2. From memory, I think SHIFT/I is the Easy radar on/off toggle...........
  3. I think some publisher has recently re-released the original Lockon as I saw several copies in UK shops for 4.99 GBPounds at the weekend. Shops like GAME and HMV. I cant recall the name of the publisher, wasn't a name I had heard of before, might have been Revival or something similar?
  4. Here is an example of smoke not going straight up because of some wind at ground level set up on the weather page in the mission. A OH Perry class ship on fire using Mizzy's flames Mod.
  5. Looks a really nice skin. I dropped it into bazar temp textures, and it worked fine.
  6. Some nice angles. I particularly liked the use of several foreground/background shots eg the (foreground) trucks passing, (foreground) rotating radar and the shot of one aircraft through the canopy of another. One other thought, why does no-one (not just you Flankerator :D ) seem to put any wind into the mission they use to capture their shots? If you add some wind, then the smoke from destroyed vehicles won't go straight up and look so boring and frankly unrealistic....
  7. Go into OPTIONS and turn off the RADIO ASSISTANCE. Or the brutal way is to use Windows Explorer to search through all the Lockon folders for shootshoot.wav and delete it!
  8. Megaupload file not there. I had to make do with watching the vimeo version. Nice........ Made me go find where I had the original Flotille 17F movie on my hard drive and watch that again. Of course it was with a bunch of other excellent French movies Ras des Flots, Wild Fly, etc so I had to watch them again too :)
  9. Yep, what CHola and Exorcet said. After takeoff, hang around at low speed near the airbase until all wingnuts have caught up with you before setting off on the mission. It seems OK to make formation changes (eg line abreast to trail etc) when in close formation, but they will use A/B if you do such things in open formation.
  10. http://web1w1.nfrance.com/~wb43370/SU-25%20missions.html Try jpm's site (link above). A whole bunch of Su-25 missions and campaigns. The campaigns are at the bottom of the page. Haven't flown them myself, so not sure what they are like..... Lockonfiles has 4 plain Su-25 campaigns. http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=230#cat
  11. If you dont want to have to fly that mission again in order to progress................. Go into Mission Editor, at the upper left of screen click on the Open button, bottom right TYPE OF FILE select CAMPAIGN, navigate the folder structure to the campaign you want and select it. Bottom right click on MAP. Now you will see the 1st mission of the campaign. Now to declassify it by overwriting the password with your own. Use keystrokes rather than the pulldown menu to do this. Press "ctrl + left shift + C" then type in a password of your choice e.g. 1234. Now press "ctrl + left shift + D" and enter your password e.g. 1234 Now all the missions in the campaign should appear on the right hand side, so select the mission you want to fly. If you wish, you can even select your aircraft, select PAYLOAD and pick different weapons / fuel load / skin. You can add or remove other units, change the weather, time of day etc. Or even change those pesky IL-76's to land elsewhere. NOTE that Lockon does not seem to remember this password overwrite, so you may have to do it each time you want to get into a Campaign this way.
  12. Be honest - when you watch Godzilla stomping all over Tokyo, you are all rooting for the big guy.... Attachment manager won't let me attach a wav file, so had to zip it...... godzilla-sound.zip
  13. The train timetable was done by 666th-Birdy not me. A tremendous piece of work that must've taken ages to do, I wouldn't have the patience to do it. Looked on the 666th site ( http://www.666th.org/downloads.php?cat_id=1 ) and the train timetable link is broken. HOWEVER, the trains and planes A-10 mission pack had the timetable included, link to that mission pack is below http://www.666th.org/downloads.php?cat_id=1&download_id=11
  14. John X - I've worked in software development for 25+ years, working on military radars, Air Traffic, military Comms etc. I've worked on project sizes ranging from a couple of man years to 400+ man years. I've worked at all levels from being a code monkey to being a senior requirements and design guy. The standards that are acceptable for the Games / Sims industry are nowhere near the same as those that the military, the FAA or CAA expect, nevertheless for any non-trivial software development there is a basic level that needs to be done. To do the background research, write the requirement specs, do the design, write and review the code, test, bug fix and retest to a standard that is good enough to release takes far, far longer than you imagine. Even if what you are doing is modifying or adding to an existing product.
  15. You can declassify a campaign (or a standalone mission) in the Mission Editor and fly the campaign missions in any order you want (plus change skins, weapon loadout, etc). I use this method all the time to cherry-pick the fun missions in a campaign and miss out the dull ones. Go into Mission Editor, upper left of screen click on the open button, bottom right TYPE OF FILE select CAMPAIGN, navigate the folder structure to the campaign you want and select it. Bottom right click on MAP. Now you will see the 1st mission of your campaign. Many standalone missions and campaigns are classified with a password so that they cannot be easily/accidentally changed. The stock standalone missions and campaigns that come with Lockon use the password EAGLE. Top left, click on EDIT, then DECLASSIFY, enter the password EAGLE. Now all the missions in the campaign should appear on the right hand side, so select the mission you want to fly. If you wish, you can select your aircraft, select PAYLOAD and pick different weapons / fuel load / skin. You can add or remove other units, change the weather, time of day etc. If you have downloaded any of the excellent missions/campaigns designed by the Lockon community, then some may be classified. Either the briefing notes or the readme file may tell you the password. Some may not. If not, then you can still get in by overwriting the password with your own. Use keystrokes rather than the pulldown menu to do this. Press "ctrl + left shift + C" then type in a password of your choice e.g. 1234. Now press "ctrl + left shift + D" and enter your password e.g. 1234 NOTE that Lockon does not seem to remember this, so you may have to do it each time you restart Lockon............
  16. Dont be a stranger, let us know how you are getting on. Remember the most important word in "Lockon Community" is community.......
  17. Strike Eagle by by William L. Smallwood Flying the F-15E in the Gulf War (already recommended by Country CowFreak) Sniper One - Sgt Dan Mills (already recommended by joey45) William L. Smallwood "Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War" (already recommended by Eagle Eye) I think it is even better than Strke Eagle, I must've read it a dozen times. Apache Dawn by Damien Lewis (already recommended by Lobrau) Additions to the list, Eight Lives Down by Chris Hunter. The story of bomb disposal in Iraq. Vietnam A Lonely Kind of War: Forward Air Controller, Vietnam by Marshall Harrison. The story of FAC in an OV-10 Bronco. WW2 War In the Boats: My WWII submarine battles by Capt William J Ruhe. The story of one officer during the successful US Pacific submarine campaign. One of the best combat books I've ever read. But maybe that's just me..... Science The invention that changed the World: the story of Radar from War to Peace by Robert Buderi. Obviously I'm a little biased as radar is my thing, but a well written book that brings to life the story of the people behind the WW2 development of radar in the UK and the US. Maybe one to borrow from the library rather than buying it.
  18. I think you'll find it is coming to you from the UK (Duxford Airfield near Cambridge), so you are at the mercy of Royal Mail.......
  19. Some good info there Topol-M. But dont assume that just because something has been offered for export automatically means that any work has actually been done! I've worked for several defence contractors. Projects I've worked on have been funded by money from export customers who "thought" they were buying an established product and merely paying for a few additional tweaks to interface it to their existing stuff. Actually was pretty much a total redesign and rework and work only started once we had their signature on a contract. I suspect the Russian defence industry are no less economical with the truth to their export customers. I've posted this before, but here it is again. All the more funny as it is not too far from the truth in my experience. This is what defense contractor marketing departments say and really mean........ They said: "Feasability studies are complete and we are in pre-production" They mean: "Two of our guys have talked about it by the water cooler...." They said: "This product is in production " They mean: "....and they figured out what colour to paint it" They said: "This product is in post-production " They mean: "We have sent someone out for a tin of green paint" They said: "This product is off the shelf" They mean: "We already have a tin of green paint" They said: "This product is off the shelf but is easy to modify to your (winter) specifications" They mean: "We already have a tin of green paint, we can buy a tin of white and charge you for both" They said: "Our skilled team are ready to modify the product to your specifications" They mean: "We have hired a guy who can paint, he has his own brush" They said: "This product is easy to modify by the end user" They mean: "We can sell you a 30,000 dollar paint brush"
  20. I've followed the link and had a quick look at the stuff on modern-air-combat.de but l lost all my german skills many years ago so can't read it, only look at the rather interesting screenies there. If you have the time, tell us more about your impressions of this Mod please Brum. What impressed you?
  21. http://www.amvi.it/index.php?idx=download_lomac Looks like our Italian friends at AMVI have the no pop-up trees Mod. Found it in 10 secs with a google search..... JaboG32 have a few of Teka Teka's Mods - Treeshader, Directional Airfield Icon, Map borderline.
  22. Nice pics. Nice to see my favorite fighter the F-8 (last of the gunfighters).
  23. No idea, I'm afraid. It is trial and error I think to get your statics where you want them. Never tried this myself. I can only guess from what you said that it is not possible to put them inside. If you want a few ideas about how to make an airbase "come more alive" just with a few statics and a few moving vehicles, check out the missions made by a guy called MBot - he does a pretty good job of it in his missions. Link to MBot mission pack at LockonFiles
  24. Basically, if you have more than one GROUP assigned to an airfield then the 2nd GROUP won't appear until all of the 1st GROUP have taken off and cleared the immediate vicinity of the airfield. The way round this is to make sure you are all in the same GROUP. Suppose you want an F-16 pair to do some SAM suppression and you are their escort in an F-15. Make the F-16 pair be one FLIGHT and you in the other FLIGHT. Of course you will share the same waypoints, make sure you are set to takeoff from parking area. Even though you share the same waypoints (of course your F-15 doesn't have to follow them), you can be allocated different TASKS and even assigned different TARGET's from ATTACK waypoints. Alternatively, there are some bases very close to others, so you can have AI taking off from a neighbouring base. A problem you might find with certain airbases is that your own player aircraft will start in one part of the base, all the AI might be clear across on the other side of the base. It depends on the base, the size of the aircraft - small AI jets will start from a HAS (hardened aircraft shelter) if there are any on the base. Also on some bases, the taxi time from the starting position (HAS or parking spot) to the runway can be a long time, the AI taxi at a fixed speed that you cannot alter. The taxi time can vary from a couple of minutes to over ten minutes! I made an investigation into this - Taxi time link By placing static object aircraft to occupy parking spots, it is possible (but somewhat tedious) to amend which spots you/AI start on. Hope this helps....
  25. My understanding is that the only difference with the English language vanilla Lockon was the box art. My understanding is that there is only a single English language single disk FC. Whilst the supply of GOLD seems to have dried up in recent months on EBay, there always seem to lots of copies of vanilla Lockon. Just looked on the UK Ebay and about 20 hits, over 30 hits on US EBay.
