Server hosts: Why do you lock your servers?
CarneyUK replied to MadTommy's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
I voted 'Other' as all of the above have some say in the locking of servers. I think the main thing is that due to this being a complex sim with long start up, possibly large missions and lot's of pre planning for some flights it makes it easier to lock a server to ensure no other problems are encountered while enjoying the flight (TK's, bandwitdth, type chat, testing etc etc). For me I feel it works both ways. The server host is setting up a server for DCS A10C and usually Teamspeak or Vent. For some this is at cost to the server hosts. If I (as a host) am paying for something I don't want someone else to come and ruin the flight/ enjoyable experience. The server hosts are already doing their bit by hosting I think. If you are enjoying a server created by someone else then I think it is then you, as a client, who should recognise the fact they have created this server for DCS A10C or Teamspeak etc, by trying to help make the experience as good as possible for all by joining their teamspeak / vent server etc and playing to their rules. If this isn't what you want to do, then there are other servers available or if you want different rules in a server or teamspeak server, then you could also create your own (at your own cost). So as said, if you are hosting the servers for the software then I feel you have a right to lock your server to ensure the best fun for you and your pilot friends......if you want to join a server then try to accomodate the host as much as possible. Get online, make the effort to speak to them, if they invite you onto teamspeak get on it, find out what they do and tag along. That's excactly what I did and have had many very enjoyable evenings being cannon fodder for my wingmen!! I think that servers will always, on the whole, be locked due to the one or two that will not as we say 'Play the Game' -
I want one of these!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKgKyoXPT_k&feature=related

thrustmaster t-flight hotas x
CarneyUK replied to Exangelus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
POV = Point of view (this is your hat switch) and D= down. So you will have U=up, L=left and R=right. I also use the TFlight Hotas and have almost all the normal switches mapped on the joystick and throttle. If you have TrackIR this also helps as you can then use the hatswitch (POV) for other things. I use a 2 modifiers so that I can use the hatswitch for 3 things, with modifier one it controls the TGP/MAV/TAD slew, with another modifier it contorls trim and with the other it controls left and right MFD and HUD SOI. I did this all in sim without any Thrustmaster software (no need). Takes a while to get used to them but with time it will become natural!! -
you won't need to worry about lag.........you'll just need to worry about every A10C pilot locking you up mmmwwwhhhaaa hhhhaaaa hhhhaaaa :D

J.A.P.M. (jet another printed manual)... Don't look!
CarneyUK replied to Aries's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Never used an online printing agency or a shop. 2 x A5 ring binders £10 350 x clear A5 sleeves £8 1 x pack of A4 paper £2 (print 2 x A5 onto it) 1 x print cartirdige set £30 Having my own manual for flying....priceless (Sorry :music_whistling:) Still expensive, but cheaper than £100+ for shop. Unless you have an electronic way of displaying while flying, the manual is a must when starting, and I still reference mine now. -
Read the manual, fly the training missions, if you don't understand it read the manual more, get as much of the basics together as you can....... ........and don't worry about getting online! Just do it. The majority of the more finer detail I have learned has been online with other pilots (some will be more helpful than others but don't hold it against them, they want to fly as much as you and may not be in the mood for teaching/training that evening especially if they have been doing it for the past few nights) This is much easier if you have voice comms than it is using chat as people can talk you through how to do things. So find out and practice as much as you can...then come chat!! Online is the way forward aswell!!:D

• Muliplayer users spawning at same location fixed. Looking forward to this one.....nothing worse than a just finishing a full start up then getting taken out just before you start to taxi LOL Great job ED!! :D
-
.......and I said to Sinky on teamspeak only 2 nights ago that there hadn't been any posts about the 1.1.0.8 patch yet....... :megalol: jinxed LOL

Don't know if this has been posted before. Little bit of bad language but shows how accurate the instrument modeling is in DCS A10C http://youtu.be/gfZiVdaiFus

Can't confirm this, will have to try when I get home, but I am always in the habit of Point tracking and my reasoning is that if I lock a vehicle and it does start to movem, I won't lose the vehicle.

Track clip fitted to headset and it works great!

Video: Super Cub Pilot Needs Mere Feet to Take Off
CarneyUK replied to -fox-'s topic in Military and Aviation
Love to see him turning downwind LOL -
I have only just recieved my Track IR 5 (a few days ago). I can now see why everyone rates it so much. It makes a massive differene as you can view things quickly without having to mess around with hat switches and the likes (also great for missle evasions :D) As has been said it is not a 1:1 ratio. There are a lot of ways to set the track ir up, just like the joystick axis in DCS. It has taken a bit of trial and error to get it the way I want it, but it is now working like I want it too. This video explains TrackIR perfectly: It really is worth it for DCS A10C or any flight sim for that matter!!
-
Track IR arrived, installed the software, plugged it in and fitted the clip to my headset (not track clip pro.) Fired it up, adjusted a few settings and hey presto it worked great. If you haven't got Track IR....GET IT!!! :D
-
Thanks dude!! It should be here Wednesday so can't wait. Everyone I have spoke to says it is a must for DCS A10C!! :D
-
I've just ordered a track ir 5, second hand (only used once) with the baseball cap clip thing. What is the software I need to use with DCS A10C 64bit, with Windows 7 64bit?
-
Just an update, only had this the once and never had it again since. :dunno:
-
Yo, groundie......bring that torch over, I can't see my switches (OK it's not modelled in the sim!! LOL)
-
It all dependas on how much time you can put in, how much brain power you have (some will learn quicker than others,) how much previous knowledge you have of aircraft and weapon systems and most of all how much you want to learn. It has taken me a few months of 2 - 3 hours of flying every other night to get to a point where I am fairly happy with using the systems. The BEST way to learn all this is get the basics then GET ONLINE!! You will find most people are a lot more patient than you would think and it really does add to the fun!!

A question about communication in multiplayer game
CarneyUK replied to flankerzrj's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
There isn't any 'in-built' comms for multiplayer chat, so you will need to use TS or Vent. There is also a handy peice of software that works with TS3 that can be used for inflight comms. Find it here http://www.excessiveheadspace.com/tars/ -
You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..
CarneyUK replied to HAVOC131's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
When you have the A10 on your phone as a screen saver, not some naked chick! When you have the GUA-8 as your text message tone which scares the hell out of the wife at 0200hrs When you have a link to the DCS forum on your work computer and are adding stuff to the 'you know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when' thread, while your Boss is the other side of the desk thinking you are working LOL. When you have a picture of the CDU on your diary holder at work to practice CDU input. When you see an A-10 on telly and get all excited, shouting your wife through to have a look. When your GUA-8 text message tone goes off at work and you leave it till it ends then look at the faces around the office with a smile on your face!! God I love this sim!! :D -
" Beaten to it LOL " When you get a target in your TGP, set it as point tracking (TMS Forward short) I think you can set area, but I normally use point, as if the target moves off it will still track. Once you have done this press TMS Forward long, this will set the target as your SPI. Switch to Mav page and press China Hat forward long, this will then slew your Mav over the target on your TGP that you set as SPI. So...get target in and point or area track them, then.... TMS Forward Long Switch to Mav page China Hat forward long Quick reply, but hope it helps.
