  1. I was flying a mission on DCSBS and as I got to altitude the Ekran system told mne to put on rotor anti-ice. I did this and carried on covering the HIP's as they dropped of the troops. On route back both engines suddenly stopped and cut out. I thought I'd try auto-rotation, but god that needs some practice!! ANyway, back on track....when I put on the rotor anti-ice I didn't put on the engine ice covers (the ones you switch on with the dust) I am thinking that this caused icing in the engine and I should have put the engine anti ice on aswell as the rotor ice  Just wondered is this modelled in DCSBS that the engines can ice and freeze, I know there was plenty of fuel and can't figure out what caused it??
  2. As Steam runs in the background, will I get a few more FPS by not having it running?
  3. I am fed up with Steam and hate having to run it just to play DCSBS. I am looking at getting rid of Steam, and will have to buy a second hand (or brand new if req'd) DCSBS disc set. If I buy it second hand from ebay or something will it cause me problems registering it if it has already been registered?? I will not be purchasing DCSW though Steam! so want both to be able to run without it!!
  4. I love both....I just love blowing s&!t up!!
  5. Great read!! Certainly get's everyone's memory's flooding back of days gone by!! Couldn't believe there are still video's on Youtube for it
  6. So there isn't really an unlock tgt button....so if I lock a target up then decide to change tgt's, it'll be either press and hold 'Lock Tgt' again and release when the new target is in the box or hit the reset button and start again. At the moment I am pressing the uncage Shkval to move to another tgt when the first is destroyed, but this will sometimes cause problems as the sensor then slews away from the target I want next. I understand why it's doing it now (either recentering Shkval or going to next datalink target) The more I look into things in this sim the more my grey matter struggles....I need an neuron upgrade! :D Thanks for the answers peeps  I have just ordered the printed manual form Amazon, had to be done, I need it beside me when I fly!!
  7. Have been setting up my joystick now I have figured out Modifier's. My one question is I have one button on the joystick set to 'Lock Target' and when I use the modifier it is the 'Uncage Shkval, designate target' button. Does this mean that the 'Uncage Shkval, designate target' button will lock a target and if you press again unlock the target? I am thinking it should read 'Uncage Shkval or designated target' or am I wrong.
  8. If you have a llok in the manual, Chapter 11 and read from 11-5 onwards. It has a lot of information on Datalinking. Here's a snippet: Designate Target Points The Ka-50 navigation-targeting system can store up to 10 Target Points (TP), which can be actual targets or ingress points. Setting a TP can be done in two ways:  Target Point fly-over. In this scenario, the TP is the ground coordinate that the helicopter was flying over when the TP was created.  Shkval I-251 Designation. Using the Shkval system and the laser rangefinder, a ground location can be designated and set as a TP. This is done by determining range and bearing between designation point and ownship. Fly-Over Target Point Designation 1. Set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "ВВОД" (Enter) position. 2. Set "И-251В– ПРОЛ" (INU fix-taking method) switch to the "ПРОЛ" (Over-fly) position. 3. Press "ОТ" (Target point) push-light. 4. Select the TP number you wish to assign from the key pad (1…0). 5. Once above the target, press the "ЦУ" (Designate target) button on the cyclic and the helicopter‟ coordinates will be appear on the Navigation Control panel display. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol will be displayed on the HUD. 6. Press the "ВВОД" (Enter) button on the Navigation Control panel a second time and the fly-over coordinates will be entered as a TP in the navigation system. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol on the HUD will go out. 7. After creating the TP, set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "РАБ" (Work) position. Shkval Target Point Designation 1. Ensure that the "ИЗЛ-ОТКЛ" (Laser standby ON/OFF) switch on the Targeting Mode Controls panel is set to the "ИЗЛ" (Laser standby ON) position. 2. Set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "ВВОД" (Enter) position. 3. Set the "И-251В– ПРОЛ" (INU fix-taking method) switch to the "И-251В" (I-251V Shkval) position. 4. Press the "ОТ" (Target point) push-light button. 5. Select the TP number you wish to assign from the key pad (1-10). 6. Press the "ЦУ" (Uncage Shkval) button on the cyclic. 7. Use the sensor slew hat to align the HUD cursor with target point area, and then locate it on the Shkval display. 8. Place the Shkval target box over the target point area, adjust the gate size and press the "АВТ ЗАХВ" (Automatic target lock) button on the collective. The range to target area will now be displayed on the TVM screen. 9. Press the "ЦУ" (Designate target) button on the cyclic a second time and the target‟s coordinates will appear on the Navigation Control panel display. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol will display on the HUD. 10. Press the "ВВОД" (Enter) button on the Navigation Control panel again and the derived coordinates will be entered as the TP coordinates in the navigation system. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol on the HUD will go out. 11. After creating this new TP, set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "РАБ" (Work) position. On the Targeting Mode Controls panel, press the "СБРОС" (Targeting mode reset) button.

  10. I would have to look at the manual, never done it that way before. IIRC it's something to do with the DL INGRESS button and the button on the top right next to the 3 target type buttons on the PVTz-800. Not sure if you have to give co-ords or not. Will have a look later when my hangover has gone :Flush:
  11. Happy New year too all! Here's to a great 2011 with many more DCS modules to come!!!!! I look forward to a 2011 and many hours on DCS Black Shark and Warthog!!! I am now going to bed and am not looking forward to the hangover!!!! :drink:
  12. Wicked video..also liked the Black Reapers vid for the KA-50
  13. Damn it....knew my old age was affecting the eyes LOL. Ah well, best go set 1024 every frame then
  14. Not sure I agree there. When I have it set to 512 every frame, it doesn't matter what angle I look in cockpit the guages are always clear, if I have 512 but not every frmae when I look at an angle they a slighlty blurred.....or is it just me??
  15. It's in PC Pilot magazine so haven't got a link, will have to buy the mag :( I have added some pictures to try and explain better. To get a recce done: 1. Task wingman to Recce using #, F1, F2 and then F6 and give him/her distance you want him to recce. He/she will recce in the direction your aircraft is pointing. 2. Once they have spotted a target you will get info about the target over the radio (subtitles in corner if active). 3. Ekran will then advise of datalink info. 4. Press SEND/MEM button and datalinked target from wingman should then show up on your ABRIS as a blue diamond (Armoured vehicle) Little pointy house (SAM/AAA) or a square (other i.e. building) If you find a target and want your wingman to attack it: 1. Lock target with Shkval. 2. Press button on top line of PVTz-800 corrosponding to target type. 3. Press SEND/MEM this will save it to your ABRIS. 3. Press target type button again and then on second line which wingman you want to send info too you should see your wingman and the target flashing on your ABRIS. 4. Press SEND/MEM again and all the lights should extinguish. Your wingman should now have the target datalinked. To order them to attack the Datalink target use the # menu. I hope this helps, but I am no instructor, haven't always been great at explaining, and am pretty crap in the graphics department. :) Enjoy and if I knew I wouldn't get done for copyright putting the whole PC Pilot pages up I would
  16. There is a good write up in PC Pilot about how to use wingmen. They are eagle eyed for spotting threats, but you need to keep a tight control of them as they are not always the best at not getting shot down. I find keeping the distance short helps. You can use the message button # is default and get your wingman to do a recce. You can task him to recce different distances and he will recce the direction your aircraft is pointing. With 3 wingmen you could even get them to recce 3 different directions just by sending the message with your nose pointing in a different direction. While he is doing his recce, any target he finds he will send information about. You will then find the PVTz-800 will flash from your wingman. Press the 'send/mem' button and you will see the location of the target come up on your ABRIS. This is the easy way just to get a recce done. Just make sure you have the PVTz-800 mode panel on '1' and the data mode to 'COM' You can also use the PVTz-800 to send your wingman target's. I'm just about to go out with the family for dinner so someone else will probably post before then, but if not I will post some info when I return.

  22. Punishment = No flying for a day, instead you have to spend at least 6 hours studying the Encyclopedia and the different ground units and aircraft!! :book: Flying sims like this make you realise how hard it can be for real life pilot's!!
  23. Well stop nicking his parking space then! LOL  He is an AI pilot :worthy:
