Thrustmaster: F/A-18c Grip for Warthog?
MudRat02 replied to Ebs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If there was a hardcore Hornet stick available I'd be all over it, but I wouldn't go for the F-15 stick (differences are enough for me to be discontent ;)). The US Harrier, on the other hand, actually has the exact same stick as the Hornet doesn't it? One stick and you'd please Bug, Superbug and Harrier fans! Anyway, word on the street is that TM has no plans currently to replicate the Hornet stick. The bloke that runs thesimulatorstore.com is in the process of doing so, still sourcing some parts though apparently. -
Well, now that I've got a bit more time up my sleeve, I've been tooling around with the Mirage. I think I've solved the issue with the discrepancies, but the model is far from complete and sitting at 9k on the poly count.

I've heard that same det cord story repeated with the Hawk. On the scale of things its supposedly not hard to set off either (although I suspect SOP's IRT the det cord are overkill even by their standards), would have been quite the ride back to base.

Nice Thor, looks a lot better than mine once I'm done with them ;) I'm making the Su-27UB, had a bit of trouble initially with reference pics, so I just took the plunge and just started airbrushing away... Anyway, drop some pics when you're done!

Not even remotely true... Not to bring down the mood, but the pilot is the captain and at the end of the day the aircraft is under their command and responsibility, not the back seater. I won't comment on the rest, its just silly. That aside, congrats to the OP and enjoy! Should be fun, enjoy and take pride in your specialisation, you don't need to compare it to pilot.

Military and Aviation News Thread (NO DISCUSSION)
MudRat02 replied to topol-m's topic in Military and Aviation
I had never experienced degradation of my vision or GLOC during any high G manoeuvre, so when I finally got the chance to do it safely (ie. someone else at the controls), I just sat back, relaxed, and let the G suit try and save me. Wasn't like the classic "tunnel vision" or looking through a straw (for me anyway), but started to fade in general. Still haven't GLOCed though, the g-suit / AGSM is a pretty good combination. -
Well, in your first post you gave some good reasons why the picture of the jet Ahmadinejad is inspecting is actually a mockup. The list of details to suggest that it isn't an actual aircraft are endless. Something you expect of any mockup, it would be strange to expect a live ejection seat, a several hundred thousand dollar canopy and actual functional panels with stealth treatment on them... But from there, who is to say for certain the aircraft or the project that its based on is fake? We've got shaky footage, which could be a number of things. Could be an attempt to fool people into thinking the jet is more mature in the development stage than it is (probably), it could be a model aircraft....could be an existing aircraft they're using as a testbed for various parts of the jet, however unlikely. Maybe the project itself is fake, or maybe its a real project...either way they have full sized model of the aircraft. There is nothing in those pictures that will give you answers on that score.
-
If the jet is fake, its not because of anything you can see in that picture.
-
I doubt very much a bunt and a stab of rudder would have made any difference at 300 feet and 100 knots. Ultimately you'd just decrease the chances of a safe ejection with less decision time, a downward vector and wings still probably not level. The time would be better spent making sure your head is erect and against the headrest

Being the fourth largest air force post WWII is irrelevant. After that unsustainable force was downsized, our force hasn't really shrunk. Unless by shrunk, you mean we buy slightly less combat aircraft now because we don't expect to loose several per year to ejections. We're in as good a shape as we've ever been.

The US won't export the Raptor to any other countries (I believe Japan was also interested in the F-22). We expressed an interest at one stage (when Fitzgibbon was defence minister?) when alternatives to the 100 JSF buy were being considered, though I don't know how serious that was.

I don't think he's posted any articles on that site for the last few years that haven't damned the F-35 and the Super Hornet, and praised the F-22 and F-111. Two of my personal favourites are his story (I think he intended for it to be thought provoking, rather than amusing) about how the US, under attack from terrorists, calls on the RAAF and its super F-111s to save the day, and the second is his very indepth analysis of the J-20's stealth properties only days after the first half a dozen pictures hit the net. Needless to say, the stealth was better than the F-35 but not the F-22, and we're all doomed. Despite what many may believe, politicians don't just cut funding, draw a name out of a hat then sign a deal for a few dozen jets. There is logic in the RAAF's purchases, and its a bit more far sighted than "the current government wants to be in surplus next year and have cut defence budget, I guess we should buy the second or third best option".

Pedal the bike, stir the pot, and bash the throttle ;)

I thought it was for FS, happy to be corrected on that count! The jet looks great, the seat looks very real, I'm almost getting lower back pain and a numb arse just looking at it ;)
-
DCS is going to be too good with all these new aircraft.

F-35 can probably supercruise like most of the other jets out there that can (except the Raptor): without any external stores and at high altitude. There was a Mirage III prototype that could supercruise back in the 60's at around Mach 1.3 by memory, but once again with its usual combat loadout it wouldn't.
-
I think that might be the issue; the Mirage III has a bit of a bulge between the wings there, perhaps not as much as what my jet has though. I'm a bit flat out during the week but I'll put some of these changes in this weekend. Hopefully it will result in a pretty hot looking french bird being posted in this thread (one way or the other)
-
Yeah its an E/O, so short nose ;) I've got several three views, they agree though and I would have thought they were close enough to get the body right. Probably just down to a few hours of tweaking on the weekend.
-
G'day all, I've been mucking around with a Mirage III just for the hell of it (probably won't bother putting it anything, but I might if I get the time), but there's something that's just not right about it. Its still in the very early stages, but although the fuselage shape and inlets from the side and top view (and cross referencing with photos) look ok, the front doesn't seem to match up. I need some opinions :smilewink:

Bet those underwear would be better than using a piddle pack!
-
Very nice, I'd love to make one of these...but where do you start!? ;)
-
I don't know if an ADI (I'm assuming an ADI is an AI here! ;) ) would be that difficult in terms of construction but using it with a sim would probably be hard. The simplest method would probably be with two servos controlling movement of two gymbal arms (opposite to the real thing) with the AI face attached (same as the real thing). Pitch and roll inputs req'd. You might be able to score an unserviceable AI from somewhere. Maintenance contractors (BAe?) et al.
-
Whoa nice! Don't suppose you're going to tell us how you made it? ;)

Any updates on this? New drivers .ect?
