  1. We hope that the recon mechanic makes it easier for helicopters because where you need to be exactly to deploy your weapons is more clear and you are spending less time scouring and looking around. At the end of the day, the map is different and the helicopter gameplay is tied to the landscape. We will keep rotating between the original missions and Syria.
  2. I think you are talking about the setting that allows for the heading and such to appear? This was removed as it was not realistic and the Hind is very strong on the server. Also, I would like to share a new mechanic that Yink made for the server, it will be coming once we sus out any bugs in testing.
  3. Thanks for taking the time to write this. I will say in general I am surprised by your feedback, a lot of people have actually been saying the complete opposite so much that people have already been asking us to not bring the original mission back in rotation. I will let the mission sit for now and see how the feedback nets out to but thanks for sharing
  4. Yes, you need to kill 10 ground targets. The F-14 and Mig-29 act as a carrot to incentivize users to take part in the campaign and not just airquake. On another note, we have finished our second survey stream which was hosted by Tempest. Here is the VOD, we covered the survey results and the stats of the plane performance.
  5. I found myself alone on the DCS Conquest Server and decided to go on a patrol with the Su-27 and had a nice sortie. While reviewing the footage, I realized that I wanted to share this so I hope you guys find this enjoyable and also pick up something that you can use in your own gameplay.
  6. I am joining this discussion late but I just want to add my perspective. It is very much my wish that both Cold War servers do well. My server is just one server doing it one way, Alpen is another server doing it another way. Both deserve to exist in the space and both can work to build a player base large enough to direct this game toward fleshing out the cold war era. This perception that one server is killing the other is an easy story to make but it's not the case. We were worried about this ourselves and I have two data points to invalidate this theory: 1) Soon after our launch, we saw that the population of both servers combined was well over 70 concurrent players. This is a good thing. 2) We did a statistical analysis based on a player survey and confirmed that there was a higher chance that a player came to my server from a non-alpenwolf server rather than alpen's server. The majority of our players have actually never played Alpen's server. This was an analysis done in January and was done by our stats person (you can see it here and get the full story in 8 minutes). A pretty sizable part of our population is actually coming from IL-2 which is what I primarily play. This is surprising but also good. There is an untapped number of players that have shifted to Cold War who were playing other things lately, this isn't a fight over the same playerbase. There are a lot of externalities that are happening in the world right now. Alpen's server is really focused on the EU timezone and Europe is going through some <profanity> right now, COVID is starting to go away and people are spending more time doing other things, we were all gaming super hard during quarantine. For me personally, I have been playing less lately vs last fall. This is an important point to make because it makes sense when you compare it to Rossmum's experience. Some people are just playing less. I have already seen some new missions from Alpenwolf that have some draw that I think they really lean into the uniqueness of the server. The A-4 mission was a ton of fun and the Mig-15/F86 mission that he had in PG was also good fun. They also had really good population when they were up and the server was nearly full both times when I got on! It is very much my hope that the two servers grow together and more cold war servers come. If I had one suggestion it would be to add a text based EWR system like blueflag or use Overlord like we do (you can limit it so it can only see what DCS EWR sees). The over-reliance on GCI, I just don't think is tenable anymore. It upsets the balance terribly and at the end of the day, we are all getting older and we all less have time than we did 5 years ago. I personally thought that sniping EWRs was border line griefing and it used to always kill the server population. I still play Alpen's server, albeit not as much as before, but I still pop in when I see an interesting mission and I wish this community well. I very much want all the cold war servers to do well and I don't see how anyone from either server could disagree, it's better for all of us. Between this server, mine and Flash Point Levant, there is good momentum to anchor the entire multiplayer community around cold war.
  7. The launch date is May 21. There will most likely be a stress test prior to launch with the patreon supporters. *Please note the new naval mechanics will come post-release.* We will release, then adapt the core code base to be able to build more mechanics for both Caucuses and Syria. The F-4 and Mig-23, as they are not released yet will be slipped into the mission when they are released.
  8. Hi, Thanks for checking out the server. In general, just so you know the best way to get answers is to post in the discord. We rely on that more so than the forums. To answer your questions: 1) It is within a 3km radius. You can see the enemies, then use the f10 map to measure your position relative to theirs. 2) More often than not, it is better to drop them all at once. When the squads deploy, they despawn after 3 minutes and kill 2 units each within a 3km radius. Each squad is 4 soldiers. 3) Disembark should only happen when you land within the enemy frontline sector. We have not had any issues with this. They do not work against depot targets. 4) Yes, just ask them. 5) There are 4 or 5 GCI slots in GCI. So this should be possible, can you clarify?
  9. Yes 56 is the max we can run. It just gets way too busy with any more. I am fairly confident we could get 60 or maybe even 70 concurrent players but it would just cause too much chaos.
  10. Sorry, it's channel 4 not 3. It's in the briefing. If you are in the MIg-21 it would be channel 3 because the Mig-21 has a channel 0 so its off set by one. Sorry for the confusion!
  11. The DCS Internal AWACS is not sufficient for a cold war setting with the amount of players that we have. This is why we use Overlord. The original DCS AWACS system was made a long time ago for a different era of planes, so it makes sense we use a more appropriate system for the era. You are free to use the original DCS AWACS system on the server if you wish and it can be found on channel 3. WHen updates come out the server has to be updated, its usually up soon after, it's up now.
  12. We would really like to make sure our server is ready for this module when it is ready. If we can get any more visibility on the weapon and radar specifications then we can balance it appropriately. I personally don't care about special information early for my own sake, things don't exist until I can buy it on the ED store, just trying to make sure our server is ready for the server. Feel free to PM me.
  13. Conquest Server is a fun little server in DCS, it's relatively new, mostly focused on Fox-1 fights
  14. Did anyone manage to get the nuke off yesterday on the mission? I joined late so I wasn't able to join on the full experience
  15. Someone is going to have higher ping and some people are going to have lower ping, just the nature of multiplayer games. If you are only willing to play with ping below a certain level then you may want to check out Alpenwolf's server which is based in Western Europe.
  16. Callsigns..............: Enigma & Tempest Coalitions.............: Red / Mirage 2000
  17. We recently turned it off because of performance issues around LOTATC This is really just DCS spotting in a nut shell, it's tricky but overlord should help direct your eyes in the direction to look in. Here are the settings I use (no vr) The A-10 gets two sidewinders but only on one pylon. DCS does not allow us to give it just one sidewinder per pylon, so we gave it two on one pylon and a pod on the other pylon to equal out the weight. Lastly, sorry for responding slowly, we are mostly discord based and I check the forums infrequently but glad you like the server.
  18. Along with the post from above, I would suggest posting in discord to try to get more help. Most of the community is discord based and you will get faster answers there.
