Okay, based on your last post when you said the same issue happening on Phone Booth was a bug, I thought it was a bug here too so I just wanted to share it. The one thing I would like to add is that DCS multiplayer, and not specifically cold war but DCS in general, is that the multiplayer scene is very casual. I don't think this gets mentioned a lot because the risk/reward of doing things gets skewed very heavily. So for example, if you have a mission that 5 hours long and the EWRs go down 3 hours in. That leaves 2 hours of play time left. Spending the time to lift in a helicopter to go rebuild EWRs takes a long time. So in order to reap the benefits of rebuilding the EWRs is very limited. The mission is going to change. So the damage is actually compounded by the fact that there is little incentive to fix it. Contrast that with IL-2 multiplayer where they have persistent campaigns running. Anything you do will have an impact but the other side has enough time to reverse the damage and to commit the time into it. The IL-2 multiplayer scene is just much more competitive but that is because the game allows for that to happen. The math doesn't make sense to fix the EWRs from a risk/reward benefit and when we reach that threshold, the fun on the server dies out. Just my 2 cents.

Found another one Alpen, Two Towns. Red EWRs destroyed, not respawning, Blue has them. Same issue as phone booths it seems.

Thanks for adding it. I personally also fly around 3-5k to try to bait some people up higher but most of the time I end up having to go lower, just one of those things about having to have two to tango. Thanks again for changing the mission.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I am just going to come out and say it but having the ability to completely blind a side because EWR can be destroyed really just kills the vibe on the server. If this game had decent spotting it *may* be viable but this game probably has the worst spotting out of all the flight sims on the market. The only answer to it is to fly lower so you can silhouette planes up against the sky but then that leads to just silly gameplay. People fly higher in Battlefield 2 than they do on this server sometimes. This server generally has population for a few hours during US East Prime Time and right now red is completely blind while blue has EWR. So the people who were playing before did not defend the EWRs. They were destroyed and now everyone who decides to join are left with an essentially burnt server. Alpen have you ever considered adding some sort of thing to help complement the EWR system. Maybe what TTE has where it gives you a text readout of a bogey picture (its unique to each player and doesn't jam comms)? If people are cheesing it then the only solution I see is to give each player an all seeing eye. That way there is no benefit from flying low. It's a shame because sneak attacks are going to be void with this but there are just too many people abusing it.

Hope you enjoy! Been a running series of mine in IL-2 and first time I have brought this to DCS. G.Loc, -BRS-Wolf and Vietkong all comment on this fight.

Had a lot of fun on the server and was impressed with the plans from the server staff so did a video to showcase it. Looking forward to seeing people on there!

Okay fair, thanks for the answers and the additional context.

I am conscious of the fact that I have been throwing around a lot of suggestions very quickly. Just want to preface this and say that I think this is the most interesting and fun server in DCS right now and aware that I am not someone who has played here for years. With that said I have some high level ideas I would like to share. I play on the server at least once a week. I don't typically play there (or DCS) everyday because IL-2 is my main squeeze so take my ideas from the POV of someone who loves the server but not in love with DCS and doesn't follow the community super closely. -I love how the server is grounded in a thematic concept. With that said, I think it would be interesting to go narrower and deeper. What I mean by that is, you have some great missions but they are really more of the same but they are different enough to keep people off balance who aren't used to the scenarios. Not to say that the core concept is bad. the core concept is great and it's the most interesting server in DCS. I think it would be beneficial to ground some of the missions into a more static state. For example, some of the missions on the caucauses map REDFOR spawns on the eastern airfields and other times they spawn on the western one. For situational awareness building, maybe its just better to keep the airbases more fixed to one side for the same map but different scenarios - meaning REDOFR always spawn east and blufor always spawn west for caucases, or north vs south for persian. That way players who play more casually always know the general flow of things. -To spice things up, you can have some versions that have later cold war aircraft and others that are just F-5s and Mig-21s as the big boy planes. Again changing the orientation (starting bases) of the map isn't really adding anything interesting, it's just adding confusion for the new players. Lastly, by focusing on just a handful of scenarios per map you cut down on the bugs and such of missions that are part of DCS mission editing, it should make your life easier. 2-3 scenarios per map would be ideal. Thinking 6-9 total. -I think for some scenarios, it could be interesting to add more broad and perma ewr or even awacs coverage. Will players fly higher if they can't hide? -Reduce the number of scenarios. Get the best ones and flesh them out. If variations of the same need to happen with different unit placements that is fine. But as someone who plays kinda regularly, again not every day but every other couple of days, I feel like every time I play it's a new mission. -SAMs I feel like are unnecessary outside of airfield protection. I would rather see more AAA. It's really not satisfying to have people you are fighting die to a SAM site. -I would like to see the cloud covers removed or raised up. DCS spotting is hard enough, one big loop and you are in a cloud and you lose track of someone. -I like the idea of having some ship based objective scenarios (I think we have 1 or 2 but not sure, again there are so many scenarios that I just don't know). They are easy to spot, they can't be abused as bad as tac commander. They also make spotting easier which is one pain point of DCS which impacts the server. Those are my ideas. Don't mean this at criticism just a thought as there are a lot of players like myself who like the server and want to understand it more but the UI in DCS is so shitty that it is not super easy to understand what is going on. I am obsessed with understanding the rules, so I try to figure it out but I know most aren't like me so I know others are still figuring it out and they may feel lost. Ultimately, I really love the server and this is a testament to where DCS should go, the cold war stuff is infinitely more interesting than the fox-3 fights. Just throwing these ideas out with love. I am a very casual DCS player so I don't have as much context as others. Again my main squeeze is in IL-2 so I just am throwing out ideas with my relatively limited experience on the server.
-
Can confirm this was happening. Red EWR was unusable and bugged.
-
Is there any chance that as we get more powerful cold war aircraft they can be more available without doing pre-requisites to be able to spawn them? I am just thinking of a brand new player who has never played on the server and is locked out from everything but the F-5 and Mig-21 before spawning.
-
Alpenwolf, any thoughts on the plan when the Mig-23 and Mirage F1 come in? Server has been really great lately. I know that each mission is designed around the F-5 and Mig-21 but seeing as the F-14 is a fan favorite in DCS, it could be really interesting to start adding in some later cold war servers. My guess is that as people who play this server are cold war enthusiasts, they will probably buy the F1 and the Mig-23 when it comes out.
-
Made another video for the cold war server because I have been having so much fun on there lately. The Mig-19 is a beast! As a Mig-21 driver, it feels great to jump in a Mig that can aggressively maneuver
-
Been really vibing with this jet especially on Alpenwolf's Cold War server. Would recommend everyone to check it out, the module feels complete and it's no slouch for its era.
-
Thanks for watching and glad that I did it justice. Thx for the brother subscription haha. I personally would welcome a few scenarios that were anchored around a few other jets but a light touch would be needed. I think having things anchored around the Mig-21 and F-5 in general is good. If we had the occasional mission that stretched ahead or behind the current server plane sets then I think that could be a welcomed change. WIth the new mirage and Mig-23 coming, it would be possible to fit them in. What would be the most equal to the Mig-23, I guess the F-14? A lot of people already own the F-14 so it could be make it viable, I am sure the Mig die hards are going to jump on the Mig-23 when it is out.

I am not the biggest YouTuber in the world but after rediscovering this server in the last few months, I wanted to shed some light on it because I think its criminally overlooked by a lot of people. I think this server really strikes a good balance and has a good niche that a lot of people would enjoy.

Su-30MKK plz -
The Mirage became my favorite module for Air to Air fighting in DCS so did a video of why I am digging it and thoughts of how it can be used on Growling. The first 90 seconds has a cinematic intro. I went for a car commercial like edit for the intro.

That's an interesting take on that, thanks for sharing and for your work on the server.

I am relatively new to this server so take my comment with a grain of salt. I am guessing based on your comment and my limited play time, the low level clouds (almost fog) was added to give people an incentive to fly above the deck? If that is the case, then I am not a huge fan of that. I mean, I don't want people flying on the deck but making it hard to see things in general is very frustrating. I wonder if adding more flak and SPAAA on the deck would help. That way, if you are trying to fly stealthy then you are going to not necessarily get lit up and die but a stream of tracers will illuminate you to basically everyone else flying in the area. Just my idea but I don't have a ton of play time on the server. I am enjoying the server though.

Any thoughts of adding a scenario where it would focus on objectives not on the deck? Maybe have a mission where B-52 formations fly over the map and have to be escorted to drop their payload. REDFOR defends. This would allow for the Mig-21 radar to be useful and to be used as they intercept and the F-5s can protect the B-52s in the best way they see fit. B-52s formations could come every 30 minutes so this gives people a chance to join a current flight or to hold back and get alt to escort the up-coming waves. Would be a change of pace from the deck fighting.

Are tacviews available to be downloaded from this server?
