Pimax Super, order and delivery dates, please post.
TimberWolf replied to Panzerlang's topic in Pimax
Mine shipped on July 8, direct from China. I received mine on the 15th in Canada. Been using it off and on for a week now. Generally pretty happy with it, but it sure is a big and bulky headset. Just received prescription lenses for it today from VR Optician, and I'm expecting my Apache strap from Studioform tomorrow. Hopefully that will help make it more comfortable. Patience is a virtue. -
Best VR Headset (upgrade from Reverb G2)?

Crystal. Crystal Light. Crystal Super. All are different headsets. Don't confuse them. -
Pimax Super, order and delivery dates, please post.
TimberWolf replied to Panzerlang's topic in Pimax
I reserved one in late July, 2024 and pre-ordered in November. I received an email asking for address confirmation on May 7. Usually it ships a few days after you confirm your mailing address, but it is now a full month and I have not received any shipping confirmation. I've heard that some who reserved in May have recently received theirs. So at this rate, if you hadn't reserved one, then you will be lucky to receive one this year. -
Needing Knowledgeable Input On PC Build
TimberWolf replied to rwbishUP's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The 9800X3D isn't a very power-hungry chip. That is one of its biggest advantages over the Intel CPUs. So no need for crazy watercooling. I have a $60 air cooler on mine and it does just fine. The real power draw is going to be from the GPU, although a 5080 at least isn't crazy power-hungry like the 5090. I also agree with getting a 4TB drive. I have a 2TB and regret not going bigger. Once you get to a certain point, speed isn't going to make a big difference, and if you have to watch your budget, it makes more sense to get a slightly slower 4TB drive over a faster 2TB drive.- 31 replies

Needing Knowledgeable Input On PC Build
TimberWolf replied to rwbishUP's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That CPU cooler is way too underpowered for a 14900. You would do better with something like the Noctua NH-D15 or similar sized air cooler or at least a 280mm AIO (but preferably a 360mm). That CPU is a power hog. Alternatively, get a 9800x3d for the cpu. Four banks of RAM is not ideal, as that often forces you to use default, or at least lower, speeds. Better to use 2 sticks. Do you really need 128GB of RAM?- 31 replies

The Super will (should) eventually have automatic IPD adjustment, but many of the reviews have mentioned that it is currently not working properly, and that they are still working to fix it. That is why it currently states manual IPD adjustment. Eye tracking, has been noted to be working well, at least in DCS.

Unless you are willing to buy used, there is no struggling with decisions. There is currently only ONE model for sale: Crystal Light. You can order the Crystal Super, but it has only just been released, and there is a year's worth of pre-orders ahead of you. You would be lucky to get one within a couple of months. All other models are out of stock, and have been for a while.

PIMAX 8K Cables and Crystal Super Question for PIMAX Team
TimberWolf replied to Devil 505's topic in Pimax
A distribution centre in the US will not help with the tariffs, since the headset itself still has to be imported into the country. -
If you're that impatient, then you might as well cancel now. If you really wanted this, you should have put in a reservation when you had the chance.
-
Obviously. Not to mention that some of the pre-orders would be for the oled display, or the 57ppd lenses, or that some of the reservations didn't continue to actual pre-orders. But if I get mine sooner than I expect, then that will be a very pleasant surprise. I find that if I set my expectations low, then I am less often disappointed.
-
When the Super was first announced, Pimax had a reservation system set up, where people can reserve a spot among the first orders. I know that the people that reserved last April have already received an email asking for shipping address confirmation, and that they will be the ones receiving the first shipments starting April 7. I reserved a spot in late July, so I'm not expecting a ship date for another month or two. If you haven't reserved a spot, then you are at the very back of the line, and you shouldn't expect a Super any time soon. This is different from the pre-orders, which opened last November, IIRC.

Depends on when you reserved, not when you pre-ordered.

Megane X superlight 8k DisplayPort OLED ultra compact headset
TimberWolf replied to winghunter's topic in Virtual Reality
Another good preview. Sounds like FOV isn't going to be great, but the small size and apparently good binocular overlap should make up for it. Really interested in this vs the PCS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw_IxpbGGnY -
First impressions don't sound that promising, especially for the price: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DQaDXgtge8

Well, it would help if you knew what you are talking about. Oculus is/was a brand, not a model. Saying that you have issues with your Oculus is like saying you have issues with your Chevrolet. No one will be able to help you since no one will know what specific model you are talking about. And of course you will have problems finding answers because what may work for a Bolt may not work for a Corvette.

10W isn't going to be enough to maintain the Q3 battery. That's about the same power that most USB-C ports can deliver, so you might as well just use that if your PC has one.
-
What, exactly, have you been reading? I didn't have much difficulty getting DCS running on my Quest 3 without SteamVR. I don't have any personal experience with the other Quest headsets, but assume that they all work about the same and use the same Oculus desktop software and use the same link cable.
-
No, it works fine with your link cable. Keep in mind that most USB-C ports also don't support video output.
-
That's odd. I could have sworn that someone had already mentioned this hub in this thread, and had posted a link. But it seems not. Perhaps it was posted in the Quest Pro thread. In any case, the Minisopuru 4-port USB-C hub will keep your Q3 battery charged while in PCVR. A solution was posted earlier in this thread, I believe. Don't bother using a powered cable, and instead use a powered USB-C hub like the Minisopuru 206b. It provides 20W PD to one of its downstream USB-C ports. The problem with those powered cables is that most of them are designed for the Q2, which uses less power. Therefore, those cables don't provide sufficient power to maintain the Q3 battery. Some cables supposedly allow 3A instead of 2, and should be able to keep the Q3 alive, but you really have to look through the description of the cables in order to find that information. With time, there will likely be more such cables available, but in the meantime, I'm using the above hub and have no issues keeping the headset battery charged while playing. Also, the problem with most motherboards is that they do not offer PD on their usb-c ports. They also don't seem to provide the full current that they should. Non-PD USB ports are limited to 5V. USB-A are limited to less than 1A, so 5W max power. USB-C are limited to 3A, so 15W max, but many motherboards seem to be only capable of outputting 2A, so are limited to 10W. If you have a motherboard that happens to be able to output a full 3A, then you are in luck, as that should be enough to at least maintain the Q3 battery. If you happen to have a motherboard that supports PD on one of its usb-c ports, then you are really in luck. (Some Asus motherboards, for example, support PD on at least one usb-c port). Alternatively, you can install a usb-c with PD pcie card in your pc. I think Thunderbolt ports by default offer PD, so that is also an alternative.

Yes, the option to disable the proximity sensor is not there, but the other options shown in the video are present.
-
I have v.59, but I don't have the option of bypassing the proximity sensor, as shown in that video. Strange.
