  1. I'm doing some scouting of sevastopol for a campaign I'm doing and I noticed some buildings. that look strange. next to a forest?? They're at N44 33 00 E33 35 07 I'll be calling them monuments - mision fails if they are damaged But does anyone know what that is. Thanks
  2. I've seen the "debates" spiral downwards in the 2 last weeks in several LOMAC forums. Except for noob-help, I'm bugging out until April 1 - when possibly something real happens.
  3. I found(Thanks lomacfiles.com) a nice site on Detailed Airplane Modelling including detailed discussion of the Su-25T. Good Stuff!
  4. I usually just copy(Save As) the 1st mission over and work on it. The sole problem with that is that the Mission Title is difficult to change. I just use the Campaign name on the 1st mission.
  5. For a main plane budget at 20,000 to 50,000 what you're looking at is a combo of high-poly 3D and low-poly game modeliing. A different style than the low-poly Quake-ish human models but it still shares some of the techniques to - Polygon budgeting, skin handling. And what you need is tutorials. 3D Buzz is practically the place to be with a lot of tutorials. 3D Kingdom is another useful site. It also depends on the software you use for 3D Modelling. 3dsMax, Maya, SoftImage XSI have different styles/prices and you need to learn the special techniques each has. You would also need some skinning basics as the LOMAC rendering engine uses skins rather than procedural textures. You're likely to start out with a NURBs Cage or Sub-Division level that deforms into a nicely shaped airplane for the main frame and convert it to polygonal to get the import-able models that games use. There also is a hierarchy to the sub-pieces of the frame that need to be organized including their pivot points. The sub-pices are usually done with low-poly techniques. Getting plane schematics is also useful as you can "trace" the model around those. You also need to learn about LOD models. These are Level Of Detail models that are swapped in by the LOMAC rendering engine at various distances. A low-poly version can successfully be used at 1/100th of the # of polys. Some modelling programs do them automatically And finally This Lockon thread-> Creating high-poly 3D Models and sending it to the DEVS will give mucho details specifically about LOMAC. Also note the people in this thread; they'd have a better idea than I would. :) Good luck.
  6. Beside the weighing of $$$ cost/benefits to keeping of StarForce, I think the Starforce choice is also a cultural response to piracy. I read the game development industry web-sites and been involved as a beta-tester for a game-dev product. And a lot of companies are haunted by piracy: 1) the dev culture feels that piracy is a direct attack against their work - which it is. Many can take it personally. 2) devs have their own horror stories, like users have their horror stories about CP, about good products that don't make their money back due to piracy. And if they don't make their money back, it's then less likely the devs can continue being devs. Everything can be pirated - hasn't that what lots of users have said here, exactly, in this thread. 3) they have research that is more sophisticated than the usual X downloaded, pirated copies = $40.00 x X downloads = total loss figures. Piracy can have a real impact on margins. 4) and they have a responsibility to try - and it'd be a real gut-kick if it's heavily pirated and they did not at least try. Users have said their piece about possibly refusing to buy with StarForce and I think ED is going to take a few lumps.
  7. 1) I've looked in the 1.02 docs but didn't see a key-command to show on-line Mission Goals. There is a key-command to show off-line. Is it available in FC 1.1? 2) In 1.1 co-op online, if all Mission Goals have been fulfilled, is there an announcement? It'd be cool that, if all the targets are destroyed, there's an announcement that Red or Blue won. Thanks!
  8. Some feed-back pushed me to modify a mission to have 6 different Plane Sets. A small area is being bombed by ground attackers while being escorted by fighters. They'll be intercepted from a carrier by Su-33s. Ground Escort A-10 --- Mig29 A-10 --- F15 A-10 --- Su27 Mig29 --- Su27 Su25 --- Mig29 Su25 --- Su-27 Probably best to use the RECOVER option as all the buildings have to be destroyed at Junction 23 and there are are also convoys to be destroyed. AWACS have been added for most of the co-ops. Download here at my Mission Page
  9. Created MiG-29 bombing co-op called Junction 23 4 MiG-29s are bombing a small area while escorted by 2 Su-27s. They'll be intercepted from a carrier by 4 Su-33s. Probably best to use the RECOVER option as all the buildings have to be destroyed and there are 15 of them. The Russian Betty will tell you why there aren't as many MiG-29 ground sorties as you'd like. :) Download here at my Mission Page
  10. On-line I really enjoy only co-op missions; it's the main reason why I fly IL2/PF. After creating 3 MP versions of a SP mission I've got some MP skillz, as I don't think there's enough in the community. I was at Hyperlobby and someone requested a MiG-29 ground-pounding multiplay missions. I'm working on that. (oops, got another idea for a co-op). Looking forward to FC 1.1 with more targets. I wondered if there were any requests for other types of Co-ops. What type of flow do you like to see with MP A2G ? My solution for MP A2A is to provide less advanced planes as you go along and the player has less missiles. What type of flow do you like to see with A2A ?
  11. Re: OT: need sites for free downloads (NO PIRATED) Why can't you fly FC without a HOTAS?? I have a simple joystick with throttle and view hat-switch that serves wonderfully. Only Lamers use HOTAS - For the full real effects: - I strap an air-conditioner to my head and bang it repeatedly to get the head-shake effect - I wrap myself in cellophane for the full air-pressure suit effect - I squeeze my neck for black-out - Hang upside-down for Red-out - and for Eject mode, I reach down and yank upwards viciously    on The Boys. I usually wake up on the floor next to my computer.
  12. We don't HAVE to support anything. But I want to support ED. I'll be getting a lot of good gameplay stuff and a chance to look forward to some cool stuff But there are risks and it is an extra effort. It's my own belief that ED will release another NO-CD Patch after 6 months have passed. And as for 3 or 4 years from now if ED disappeared - I would consider it my own abandon-ware to patch and play as I like. If they're still around I'll be playing their follow-up program with a CD.
  13. It looks like they decided to fore-go income from a section of the LOMAC customers. A reasonable option now that ED knows it's an issue for the LOMAC community and has weighed the losses versus the benefits. I'll be getting it. I've asked this a few times How will it work for someone who wants 2 copies? :? I've got a buddy without a credit card and we want 2 copies. But I'll likely have to e-mail ED directly once the full procedure is known.
  14. I'll point out the obvious. Once a large, vocal portion of the community said it would not support Starforce and ED said it was looking at alternatives, a delay is a necessity. Simply, it takes extra time to test and price out alternative systems. I am glad they listened to the commotion and I am happy that they'll take their time. FC with Starforce in February is much, much worse than FC with a functional protection system in March-ish.
  15. This is a multiplayer version of Feodosija Blocker. A strike force of A-10s has to sink 4 tankers to block a Harbour. In fact, I've included 3 versions of this mission. Min: 4 players - 4 A-10 players Ltd: 6 players - 4 A-10 players + their 2 F-15 escorts Max:10 players - the Ltd above plus the SEAD missions(2 A-10a + their 2 F-15 escorts) I've include the password and you can set up your own on-line settings. Download here at my Mission Page With any luck, you'll start having flashbacks to Feodosija. Enjoy.
  16. I think when it comes to polls, you have to be wary of the total number. There are a lot more flight simmers who will show up when FC is out. We're just a subset of a subset of a larger community I'll buy it with SF.
  17. myopic MY Own toPIC myopic :)
  18. It is merely my suggestion to them that will smooth things over without possibly losing them profits. Quite frankly I don't know how big a problem it will be. I said, "tricky if not impossible" if it's tied to hardware - that's only my best estimate. Until they set out the payment procedures and how they're tied to the hardware/ip, it could be easy, tricky, or possibly impossible. So, if I'm lucky, they'll correct me.
  19. My point was after 6 months there's not going to be a large demand for downloading Flaming Cliffs and not much profit. But I think they should have copy protection for the 1st 6 months. But after 6 months, the cost of administering the Starforce might exceed the value of keeping it Starforce-protected. A lot of people like to keep their sims on their machine for a long time. And if you promise a No-CD/Authorization patch after 6 months, you'll get a larger group of initial buyers and buyers in total. And you protect yourself from pirating for the 1st 6 months.
  20. Will ED need that copy protection after 6 Months? Like they did for patch 1.02  - Why wouldn't they promise a patch with the usual fixes(no sim doesn't need fixes) and a No CD/No Activation patch If they are going to listen to the wondrous promises of Starfox, at least weigh the value of no activation patch after 6 months when 90 % of sales are usually done. Also compare it to other system like for Combat Mission and Dangerous Waters. I was hoping to buy 2 copies. 1 for me and another for a buddy who doesn't have a credit card. That's going to be tricky if not impossible under the Starforce systems. Please take my money, Mister. Pleeease!!! Any Answers there?
  21. To a fast mover with missiles, there is little difference between the A-10 and a helo. I've flown many missions(when testing A-10 missions) where it was Fighters vs. A-10, and it is a slaughter. And the helo is much more adept at terrain-masking. pop-up, and hiding in ground clutter. The time it takes to arrive at a mission destination is half as short for an A-10. That means that the missions will have a different form and scale. Mission designers will adapt especially if the helo can take off from anywhere. But the A-10 needs Theatre or Area Air Supremacy or it gets slaughtered. The helo is no different. Air superiority and close support are 2 different things. And a helo will do the exact same close support tasks as an A-10. It'll just be done in a slightly different manner under different circumstances. They've included A-10 in LOMAC How have they made that work when Su-27s are flying around? A helo is workable.
  22. Back door .. access granted ... foam.. foam... foam.. blaah blaah blaah A low-risk theoretical threat for about 150 western users. But for the fact that we simheads are regularly changing our machines and are the most technically proficient. 3 Times only? A system has to be stronger than that. And what about a possible dedicated server? More immediately - I was hoping to buy 2 copies. 1 for me and another for a buddy who doesn't have a credit card. That's going to be tricky if not impossible under these systems. I'll await the hammering out of details to see if 2 copies will be sold rather than 1.
  23. As a mission designer who has included both Fighters and A-10s and AI Helicopters in the same missions, there would be little difference between an A-10 and a Helicopter. You'd have the same problems of enemy Fighters breaking through your air cover and toasting your A-10s. Once they get through with any advanced missile(which is most missiles), your whole mission is screwed. The hidden question is: How does LOMAC handle weak Air coverage for the A-10 ? Most A-10 missions state that there are no air coverage problems or that air supremacy has been achieved. In my earlier missions(Centre-Punch and Aleksandrovka Gap), I tested repeatedly to give a small percentage chance that the Air coverage has been broken through and that the Fighters have only guns. Tactically, there's no difference between an A-10 and a Helo. And A-10 seems to have functioned in LOMAC since its arrival.
